Lateriser, who finished 30th in the world last season, discusses the Fantasy assets who he’ll be sticking with over the coming weeks and months.

I am one of many managers who is deploying their Wildcard right now and one of the reasons for that is the emergence of a few ‘glue guys’ – that and the fact that I’ve had a terrible start, and my overall rank is around the 4.5 million mark.

Glue guys are the kind of picks in a particular ‘value’ price bracket that you just need to set in your team and forget about for a long time because they will continue to offer bang for buck for the mid-to-long term.

It’s important to filter these out because if you’re Wildcarding this early in the season, you need to get these picks right so that your team has enough stability.

It’s the emergence of these glue guys and a few long-term trends that I’m particularly comfortable ‘banking’ on that has me Wildcarding early. It was the similar emergence of assets like Caglar Soyuncu (£5.5m), John Lundstram (£5.5m) and Todd Cantwell early last season that instilled me with confidence to Wildcard early.

So who are the ‘glue guys’ that I’m looking at early this season?

Tariq Lamptey (£4.5M)

Brighton look like a different team this season, especially with the addition of highly-rated Ben White (£4.5m) in their side. They have been very impressive in the first two games and look to me like a team that is going to do much better than they did last year.

What Tariq Lamptey (£4.5m) gives us is the ability to provide points at both ends of the pitch at a cut-price rate.

What is FPL Upside Chasing and how can I implement it in 2020/21?

Apparently, the feature we used to use underwent some structural/pricing changes last week so we are using GoogleForms as a stop-gap/test in the interim while we sort out what to do long-term.

It is possible to see the current state of the poll by clicking on See Previous Submissions after voting, and then hovering over the players' colours on the pie-chart.

The current leaders are De Bruyne 18.7%, Werner 17%, Salah 11.9% and Son 11.5%., but these may have been skewed by multiple voting.

Not on my WC but having a little play around for next week possibly and came up with this, thoughts?

    Martinez / Steer

    Cooper / Lamptey / Taylor / Dunne / Mitchell

    Salah / KDB / Rodriguez / Son / Greenwood

    Jimenez / Werner / Brewster

3-5-2 would be the formation and the obvious thing is the defence is very weak. Banking on one of the 4m defedners keeping his spot to cover for the 4.5's when needed.

But is it worth it for that midfield and strike force? Could even switch werner and greenwood for martial and Ziyech if he is available soon

I just don't like that weak of a defense.

Dunne & Mitchell have a limited life span. Lamptey should be nailed, but is prone to the odd but if rotation.

Burnley are injury-ridden and I think they may struggle initially. Leeds defense has shipped a lot of goals thus far, and Cooper doesn't have much goal/assist threat.

A premium defender can return just as well as one of your midfielders/forwards, so for the sake of a reliable asset (and potentially not enough playing defenders some weeks) - I'd personally shift the funds a bit.

yeah i know what you mean.

greenwood / ziyech to foden means that can do Cooper to Saiss with 0.3 ITB which potentially feels better

    My Podence opinion:

If on a WC, I think the uncertainty of Podence is a turnoff for now. I feel wingers who don't shoot on target often need to amass points from assists and clean sheets (3 points, 3 points) over the medium/long term to match/beat 5.0 to 5.5 defenders with goal threat and same fixtures, and that doesn't cut it for me with someone who isn't guaranteed to be nailed (can miss the 3-point clean sheets), especially with nailed alternatives from other teams posting good stats and nice fixtures too

This is subjective, but I felt I should say it

    1. Pukki Blinders
      • 6 Years

also takes up a 3rd wolves slot and i might want a 2nd wolves defender or traore.

        • 7 Years

He's one of those "If he stays in the XI" players. Foden and Mahrez too. Absolute gold if it happens

        1. Zimo
          • 7 Years

Foden is still gold since it's City and he's only 6.5

I'm also on a wildcard and agree uncertainty is a factor.

However, with Podence there is a real upside in the coming fixtures and he has already returned twice against somewhat tough opponents (from an defensive standpoint).

There are now so many potentially viable options in the ~5.5m price bracket (Klich, Harrison, Costa, Armstrong, Diangara, Neto) that you could go for one of them - but also you could just punt on Podence & if it does not work out, shift to another.

      1. Ze_Austin

    Maupay, are we overlooking him?
    - 2 goals, 1 assist over the first two
    - penaltytaker
    - in form providers in Trossard and Lamptey
    - the speed of Lamptey will result in penalties
    - nailed

Maupay isn't very good at penalties... And Potter will still find a way to rotate him with Connolly, which can be pretty annoying

But even with the caveats, he's a good option. Unlikely to generate a bandwagon except if some more trusted names fail though

      1. Zimo
        • 7 Years

Really? He hasn't taken that many penalties in his career. Why's he bad?

          https://www.transfermarkt.us/neal-maupay/elfmetertore/spieler/217115

My comment was from watching all the penalties he's taken in EPL so far, even when he scored 'em, and feeling he wasn't taking them well. But you're right: he hasn't taken enough to judge him by, and he's missed only one, so my opinion might be biased

Oh he doesn't look confident in taking them? I haven't seen brighton play that much. I was just curious because i have him penciled in for GW6 against West Brom.

Yeah. Usually seems 50:50 with him, and no clear penalty style or aura (Jorg, Kane, Vardy et al)

              Again, it's subjective
