With so many goals already this season, it’s all about strikers in Fantasy Premier League – but which ones should we sell, keep or buy?

We have already witnessed 103 goals over the first 28 matches of the campaign, an average of 3.68 per game. To put that into perspective, the previous Premier League record across the course of a full season was an average of 2.82 goals per game.

With nets bulging up and down the country, it is natural to assume that the bulk of the goals will be scored by strikers and, with the new handball regulations leading to more penalties being awarded, it is only natural to favour front-men on spot kick duties.

The FPL Eye Test - Gameweek 3 3

For example, the following forwards take penalties for their respective clubs:

  1. Neal Maupay (£6.5m) – Brighton
  2. Chris Wood (£6.5m) – Burnley
  3. Richarlison (£8.0m) – Everton
  4. Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.0m) – Fulham
  5. Jamie Vardy (£10.0m) – Leicester City
  6. Callum Wilson (£6.4m) – Newcastle
  7. Danny Ings (£8.4m) – Southampton
  8. Harry Kane (£10.5m) – Spurs
  9. Charlie Austin/Hal Robson-Kanu (£5.4m) – West Brom
  10. Michail Antonio (£6.4m) – West Ham
  11. Raul Jimenez (£8.6m) – Wolves

CHECK OUT THE FULL PENALTY TAKERS LIST HERE

That’s a pretty large share out of the 20 teams. So, while 3-5-2 has been gaining popularity over the last few years, the number of penalty takers available at budget prices in forward positions may very well help cement the classic 3-4-3 as the preferred formation.

But do we want to be investing in strikers who rely exclusively on penalties? While there could be merit in that approach, surely we want to investing those who offer plenty of threat from open play as well.

So, let’s have a look how the league’s strikers have done so far using the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area.

Which is the best midfield combo for a budget of 11m -
    1. Podence, Costa
    2. Burke, Townsend
    3. Burke, Foden

Yeah. In a decent side too. It would easily enable 4 big hitters

        1. @persecuted_by_mods
          5 years, 10 months ago

That's actually my point lads, there was nothing stopping you doing that with another 4.5, sure nobody at 4.5 plays but if this is your ideal strat then surely you've done that anyway because the upgrades players with that price saving is who you want to play all the time?

How often is Brewster gonna start for you? Very rarely, and even rarer that you time that with him getting points

          1. Pukki Blinders

Can easily become starting quality... next cheapest starting striker is 5.5. Bit of a difference in price wouldn’t you say?

            1. @persecuted_by_mods
              5 years, 10 months ago

Yes 5.5 is a larger number than 4.5 , great insight!

Just pointing out he's not a cert to get points, and if you're saying ah he's 4.5 he enables funds then you could have done that any time really

                1) You're being a nob 2) nobody's bench plays that often in FPL but it is better if the bench plays in real life so when they are called on, you get points (even if it is 2). I don't see how after 7+ years of playing this you don't see the benefit of having a 4.5m first choice/first team playing striker

                • 7 Years

Look at Greenwood last season, starting games at 4.5 and this season he’s priced at 7.5...
why would a non starting 4.5 striker be the same as a starting one? The ability to play Brewster every week is what makes him a potential bargain, I can’t see what your point is

      1. @persecuted_by_mods
        5 years, 10 months ago

I know that, my point is if your ideal strategy is having a 4.5 to enable upgrades elsewhere then why wouldn't you have done that anyway? As I doubt Brewster is gonna get many minutes in anyone's team starting

        1. Limbo
          • 16 Years
          5 years, 10 months ago

Not the case. If he starts, then you could play him plus a huge midfield with a pair of premium strikers to boot.

          1. @persecuted_by_mods
            5 years, 10 months ago

      1. @persecuted_by_mods
        5 years, 10 months ago

Youre the caveat and excluded as you've already got the 4.5 tactic, so Brewster totally makes sense for you

My comment is mainly aimed at people that haven't used that strategy and will do it just because of Brewster

i think im going to wildcard after this week for that very reason. will be benched most of the time but if he plays in gameweek 5 he is at home to Fulham. Welcome aboard Brewster!!

        1. @persecuted_by_mods
          5 years, 10 months ago

Yeah but if he's at home to Fulham he's still just a young striker playing for a not that good attacking team, who would you actually play him over

      1. @persecuted_by_mods
        5 years, 10 months ago

My point isn't he's bad, my point isn't that I don't understand a mostly starting 4.5 striker to upgrade elsewhere

My question is mainly if that's your main tactic surely you've done that already anyway, does Brewster starting make that much of a difference as surely most people will be benching like 90-95% of the time?

Well IMO, you can find good rotation options to play him for nice games and bench him for others e.g. Sheff Utd + Soton

(ARS) FUL (LIV) (MCI) (CHE) WHU WBA
WBA (CHE) EVE AVL NEW (WOL) (MUN)

Got him on WC with Salah and Robbo. Need Trent but he's preventing that move due to 3 Pool. Only reason I'm happy about it tbh. I don't think Sheff U will score this season actually.

I get that but why for a hit? Can easily be done for free and have the same outcome... it’s not like Brewster is due for a 15 haul

Only if you catch the points your fodder scores. Most times it'll be stuck on the bench.

I wouldn't do hits for players who are not injured or if it doesn't enable you to switch an injured player.

In your case, you can do Son to Barnes, without -4. So then I think no, don't take the hit.

Werner could easily outscore Ings, and then you are just throwing away points.

Trying to reign in my aggressive attitude to taking hits this season, but this move is gnawing away at me.

I would do it. It's a very strong upside chasing move and you have the funds to do it.

There’s always consequences to spending that budget though, which is what’s holding me back. I could upgrade 1 of my defenders to Trent or even Trent and Robbo, but I like playing the fixtures with defenders.

        Digne, Saiss, James, Lamptey, Mitchell

Only Saiss is worth upgrading there imo, what do you think? I know TAA and Robbo give attacking returns but if I got them, I would never play Lamptey, who has great fixtures.

I don’t want to, per se. I can see Sterling scoring double points and JRod isn’t on penalties as I had hoped.

Kdb(c) otherwise, which I may stick with even if I bring in Sterling.

That is the reason they are buying him. Plus, I don't think they have lacked in creativity so much to have zero goals registered till now. Finishing has been poor. They even missed a penalty. And with Fulham next, Brewster deserves a chance! If only for that one game.
