Mohamed Salah (£12.4m) has forged himself an increasingly significant role among Fantasy Premier League managers inside the top 10,000.

After a surge of ownership in Gameweek 12, and a goal against Spurs, the Egyptian is the most powerful asset at this level for Gameweek 14.

Despite pre-game rumours of a benching, which proved to be true, no player was captained by more top 10k managers this weekend than Salah.

28.6% of them backed him for the trip to Selhurst Park, the reward eventually coming after his 57th-minute introduction for Sadio Mané (£11.9m).

The fact that Salah still managed to record a 16-point haul from the bench puts some pressure on the other key captain candidates – all of whom play their Gameweek 14 matches on Sunday.

Harry Kane (£10.9m) came a close second in captaincy debate among the top 10k, backed by 25.1% of them.

That is an intriguing result considering the Spurs man was the third-most-popular skipper in the latest Fantasy Football Scout captain poll, backed by just 9.8% of our voters.

The top 10k and our readers also found some disagreement over Bruno Fernandes (£11.0m). Ahead of a home match against Leeds, the Manchester United man was the second-best captain according to the captain poll (20.6%).

A larger portion of the top 10k handed him the armband in the end (22.9%) but it is still a smaller contingent than Salah and Kane were able to muster.

The top 10k’s relationship with Son Heung-min (£9.6m) is also interesting to analyse.

84.5% of them possess the South Korean, making him the most-owned at this level, 13.9 percentage points above what Kane can boast.

However, only 6.4% of the top 10k were prepared to captain Son for Gameweek 14, roughly a fifth of how many were more comfortable handing Kane the armband.

As a result, despite the perceived advantages of midfield options compared to forwards, it means Kane is a more powerful weapon in the upper echelons than Son.

The Englishman boasts effective ownership of 95.7% for Gameweek 14, compared to 90.8% for his midfield counterpart. Although Salah leads the way this week. He is “effectively owned” by 96.5% and already 16 points to the good before Spurs have even kicked a ball.

That brings us right back to how dangerous Salah is proving to non-owners moving forward, especially in Gameweek 15.

The disparity between his effective ownership and the figures posted by Kane and Son are sure to be even larger during the Boxing Day fixtures.

That’s when Liverpool host the Premier League’s worst defence in West Bromwich Albion while Spurs travel for a much sterner test at Wolves.

As Fantasy managers prepare for the busy Christmas period, there was relatively little movement in the template, suggesting a number of those in the top 10k fancied rolling a transfer.

However, there was one massive shift in midfield, connected with, yes, you guessed it, Salah.

The Egyptian was owned by 54% at this level for the 2-1 win over Spurs but 68% of top 10k managers had him in their side for the 7-0 victory at Crystal Palace.

His seven-point score at Anfield in Gameweek 13 was probably not large enough to trigger that rise on its own, the fact that just over 280,000 managers worldwide signed Salah for Gameweek 14.

Examining the template more closely, we can pinpoint a few signs of where managers compromised to make room for him.

Fernandes saw his top 10k ownership drop from 61.1% to 55.2% and it looks as if Patrick Bamford (£6.3m) remains the man to downgrade to for such moves. His ownership at this level rose by 6.5 percentage points between Gameweeks 13 and 14.

With Blank Gameweek 18 and Double Gameweek 19 on the way, top 10k managers have left off the chips for this latest round of matches.

The Wildcard was used by just 0.7% of them, although this was still the most popular chip for Gameweek 14.

It will be interesting to see when those with first Wildcards still in their back pocket use them over Christmas.

23.3% of the top 10k are yet to deploy it and only have two more Gameweeks in which to pull the trigger.

      Fabianski
      Robertson Chilwell Dallas
      Salah Bruno Rashford Soucek
      Vardy Bamford Adams

      Johnstone Coufal Klich Taylor

I did KDB to Kane before this current GW. I dont think its such a good move before this upcoming GW though as Newcastle is a much better fixture.

Kane in before Fulham is a good move for KDB imo. But Gabbiadini will tell you KDB is a must hold so..

0.4 is a huge buffer. Do you expect 5 of your players to swing in price before next week? If not, then you're fine. If you do, it's rather unlikely Soucek is the priority transfer out of those 5 players

With a heavy heart I have just sold KDB. He was my bus captain for GW15 but alas, it needed to be done.

I had been happy to go without Salah until now but today was the last straw. The man is clearly in the form of his life. Liverpool's next 3 are WBA, new, sou which are already good fixtures but then you notice that Liverpool have a whole week off before the WBA game at which point they play Sun, Wed, Mon before the FA Cup which is frankly a p*ss-easy schedule compared to most other clubs, and Salah's already had his rest so realistically he's playing 270 mins across the Christmas period. It's a no-brainer.

So either KDB or Bruno had to make way and with no money ITB I needed to fund Mo somehow. If Reece James is out for an extended period of time then he becomes a priority transfer out, and James to Taylor gives me just enough to do KDB to Salah. If I did Bruno to Salah instead, it would have been Chilwell to make way which I was reluctant to do because Chilwell is the better option over James, simply by virtue of having less competition for his place.

Also, City's next fixtures are Arsenal on Tuesday in the EFL Cup, then NEW on Sat, eve on Mon, che on Sun. Let's say KDB gets a full rest in the EFL Cup which isn't a given considering City have taken this competition quite seriously in recent years, even then I feel there is very little chance of KDB playing both Saturday and Monday and if Pep was to prioritise one of the two fixtures, you've got to think he'll save his big guns for Everton away rather than Newcastle, who are pretty terrible, at home. Maybe KDB gets 60 in both, who knows, but Salah will be going for 90 in both of his games and then Chelsea away is not a good fixture for City in the GW to follow.

Not entirely sure what the point of typing this out was since I've already made the transfers (KDB + James to Salah + Taylor) but oh well. G'night folks

I think the analogy of KDB is basically a Zaha and Grealish in a better team is spot on. Creative talisman without anyone near his level. He'll tick along, but I have DCL or Bamford or Grealish or Bowen or Zaha to do that

How would you explain his points tally v zaha and grealish, by that science?

            De Bruyne 'tick along'?

                lol beat me to it.

I still think KDB is clearly a better asset than Zaha and Grealish, just not like 4M better. City too inconsistent for an 11M captain option

Just that De Bruyne has been doing this for years, he's 29 now and a complete player who does everything – and I was on about points last few seasons (thought i said that).

Analogy is wrongly used, sorry, but it is.

He's playing well but without David Silva's magic, Aguero's killer instinct and Kompany's and Fernandinho's drive and leadership City aren't the team around him where he thrived before, so his tally is less than before.

Yeah no denying KDB is the best player in the league in terms of overall impact. If you watch the games, he's literally a Grealish in a sky blue shirt (or rather Grealish is KDB lite in a claret shirt). He dribbles, sprays passes, and puts chances on a plate. He has no consistent finishers on his team.

He can go off with a 20pt GW against Newcastle, but I wouldnt be confident City can replicate that performance on a game by game basis on current form

It honestly depends on minutes played more than the opponent. There is zero chance KDB gets even close to the full 90 in both games considering it's a Saturday Monday turnaround. So if for some strange reason he's played 90 against Newcastle (which I don't think he will), then it would actually be a good time to sell him before a potential benching and Chelsea away to follow.

Everton are looking much better. They got 2 clean sheets in 3. Their actual defense is good and settled now with Keane, Holgate, Mina and Godfrey.

I'd be much happier losing KdB after Newcastle when he has eve che in the next two vs Kane's FUL LEE.

The timing just works nicer. But that's assuming that I want to do it. If KdB gets a double digit haul at Newcastle and City win handily, it'll be tough to sell him...

it'll be nice parting gift, but KDB's results, haul or blank, against Newcastle doesnt change the fact that City is stuttering and Everton and Chelsea are two of the better defences in the league in the past 3 weeks

It’s the best plan for this blank and double. But when the others come along at the end of the season there’s no guarantee that it will prove to be the best plan overall.

          No?
I don't think anyone was expecting a big haul v Southampton.
If you can get a score of 5 vs the strong teams then that is a pretty good level of output in my opinion.

Given I have Salah/Fernandes/Son as well as KDB, nope.

Kane has been okay, but since I got KDB (last 5 GWs) he's thus so far outscored Kane. Always time to switch, but Newcastle is not that time!

I've presented a few options with my 2FTs, but few have liked them. A "don't get rid of X" or "why sell Y?" kind of thing. So how about an open-ended question:

What would you do with 2FTs and this team? I'm keen to get Son, but maybe I shouldn't? TIA!

    McCarthy, Forster
    Chilwell, Targett, Lamptey, KWP, Kilman
    Salah, KDB, Bruno, Grealish, Soucek
    DCL, Bamford, Wilson

The obvious suggestion is a Spurs asset.
I think I am a bit against the grain preferring KDB next run of six over Bruno.

Lamptey down and Kilman up would be another suggestion.

I don't want to sell KDB, but it is an easy move. And it's not like City is opening up defenses. Among other issues, defenses putting 8 or 9 in the box is making it tough for them to get a shot off. Maybe Kun's return--whenever that is--can change that...?

Thought about selling Bruno, too. But if he gets a penalty, I'd probably face a red arrow.

I've been thinking of selling Grealish, but he's the one I'm referencing as Y in the original comment. He and Wilson have tougher fixtures after this week.

        I might just flip a coin. I don't know.
