Replacements needed for De Bruyne and Vardy in wake of long-term injuries

A large number of Fantasy Premier League managers now have big transfer decisions to make ahead of Gameweek 20.

In the build-up to the FA Cup fourth round, Kevin De Bruyne (£11.9m) and Jamie Vardy (£10.1m) were both ruled out for several weeks.

The Belgian came off with a suspected muscle problem in Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa.

Guardiola has now confirmed that De Bruyne will miss the next four to six weeks as he recovers from a hamstring issue.

Meanwhile, Vardy has been dealing with pain from a hernia in recent weeks and Brendan Rodgers has seen fit to get him under the surgeon’s knife to correct the problem.

That has ruled him out for “a few weeks” just as Fantasy managers were considering investment in light of Leicester’s appealing short-term fixtures.

With some managers facing two high-profile absentees in the coming weeks, the number of hits for Gameweek 20 is likely to increase.

This is also the sort of development that could tempt some into deploying the Wildcard.

Either way, the Season Ticker and other Members Area tools are sure to help anyone struggling in light of this news.

    I think I may go for Foden over Son as my KDB replacement.

    I think Foden is one of the best options in the entire game when given minutes, which is now more likely to happen given KDB's injury.

    Thoughts?

        I don't expect Gundo's role to change in KDBs absence, but Gundo's current performances are looking quite good. I wouldn't expect Gundo to be moved farther up the pitch in KDBs absence and see 'dinho and Rodri paired as holding mids . . . that just seems to be overly cautious.

        I'm expecting KDBs minutes to go to Foden, Bilva, Ferran Torres, and Mahrez with Foden getting pretty regular run.

      "One of the best options in the game" is stretching it way too far. Foden doesn't compare to Kane / Son / Salah / Grealish. He has hot games but also has many games totally invisible, hooked off at 60, long way to go. At this current stage I'd call him a "wild punt"

      I follow City carefully and think Foden is going to be the one plugged in to the KDB role. I guess you could see Bilva there, but I think it's Foden's time for regular minutes while KDB is out.

        Foden has never played kdb's role? Plays on the wings. I can see Foden still being benched regardless of kdb injury or not.

          He's played in the middle before. In fact, he's always looked more suitable for that role to me. Pep basically said that City wasn't going to replace David Silva because Foden was the replacement.

          I'm betting you will see Foden sitting in the KDB role with the advanced roles being filled by Ferran Torres and Mahrez.

    FYI Leicester players in the last 4 GWs this season and last where Vardy didn't feature:

    *Goals
    Perez 1
    Gray 1
    Iheanacho 1
    Maddison 1
    Choudhury 1

    *Assists
    Perez 3
    Ndidi 1

    * Total shots on target
    Perez 9
    Iheanacho 5
    Maddison 5
    Barnes 5

    * Penalty area touches
    Perez 26
    Iheanacho 17
    Barnes 16
    Gray 8

    * Expected goal involvement
    Perez 2.8
    Gray 2.0
    Iheanacho 1.7
    Maddison 0.9

    Only a small sample size though and two different seasons, so pinch of salt required!

      Worry about Leicester without Vardy. He's been toothless but he's a massive distraction for defenses which has allowed Maddison and Barnes free runs. Chelsea look totally out of sorts.

    Benching KDB for one week while I take a watching brief (on who to switch KDB to) and focusing on getting Cancelo. Leaves me with 4 starting spots and 2 to bench from Leeds/West Ham (already playing Bamford and Antonio).

    Which 2 to play from the list below?
    A. Coufal
    B. Soucek
    C. Dallas
    D. Rodrigo
