I’m really struggling to find the enjoyment in this season. EO has had a real effect on that for me.

Kane captain every week with 180% meaning a return gives you 2 points gain when he gets 15 points.

Players like Iheannacho getting you 12 points but only gain 1.6 points from it.

I go into weeks thinking whats the point in playing this recently. Anyone else struggling with enjoyment?

Previous years I’d enjoy bringing in good players (regardless of ownership) vs weak teams but this year every week I feel lifeless in any decision making.

I’m 55K so not a great season by my previous years (9K and 2K last two years) but not terrible.

Too many playing the game now. It's spoiling it for the rest of us.

I never see number of managers a bad thing as I’m aiming top 10k regardless if there’s 8 million active players or 1 million.

Obviously the reason for EO but I’m always looking at top 10K.

I guess it’s the knowledge of EO which has killed the enjoyment for me. It would have always been around but not readily known/available.

Effective ownership in the top 10k has always been around the same though??

Been playing it for over a decade. I've struggled to break out of 400k the last couple of seasons. I'm now just playing it however I like, picking differentials just to go against the curve. Still all a bit meh.

Depends on how you play the game. I tend not to focus on ownership. Just try and get as many points as possible. In a gameweek there is usually max 1 or 2 players who will have an effect over 100% and hurt your rank even though they are in your team.

This is true. Bruno last year a good example of this. I guess it’s also that it feels like when we try and go against the template it backfires.

Greenwood for instance. Get him in and United draw 0-0. So many other examples, it’s really tough mentally I find right now

Yeah I got in Greenwood aswell this week, tough luck. I do agree with you though, going without a player that with 80+ EO is terrifying. Its the exitement of fpl but can make you feel really bad aswell. I have gone without Bruno since gw 26. Been the most nervwrecking experience of my fpl-life but worth it in the end haha

Just go with differential picks esp cap picks. apart from kane in the last dgw havent captained anyone in the top 4 most captained top 10k players for at least the past 10 weeks

On top of that have players like castagne Alonso vardy and now zaha

Im 29k atm but dint want to linger around the same rank mark. Its either top 10k or out of top 50k. Only way to make it interesting

I like the way you play.

I’ve always been someone who buys on gut feeling as well as being a fixtures man. I’m looking at Zaha myself and bought Castagne last week

I quite enjoy the challenge of finding the right balance between keeping up to date with the template to cover EO and trying to get ahead of the game with the emerging players e.g. jumping on the Gundo / Lingard style trains ahead of the curve. Agree that harder to take risks and gamble on differentials though

This is true Gandalf. I brought in Gungo and Lingard early and I went from 1.4m to 90k in 11 gameweeks.

Since it’s been 6/7 gameweeks where I tiptoed up to 55k. I hoped the wildcard would be the real push but it hasn’t happened. Players like Leno, Jota, Keeping Fernandes really piling on the pain.

I always play in a way that “what is my weak link” but I do find there’s also a “you need Kane/son” every single week and when they’re owned by everyone it’s a bit rubbish.

I prefer the head to head league that I run. It’s a far more fun way of playing. For example, last GW I took a 28pt reduction and still managed to beat my opponent and get the 3pts.

    8. Vlekz
        4 years, 7 months ago

This is a weird year with doubles and blanks happening atleast once in a 6 week period from gw 17 onward, so without a choice few players have to be bought in and a few dumped despite okay fixtures, so all the actives playing a similar chip strategy end up with a similar core. i dont think it will be the same from next year

      • Utopsis

Agree with all the "ignore EO comments" - you can only make 1 change per week to your team without penalty, so mass squad overhauls aren't viable anyway.

Also, try and join as many MLs as you can. Start a few with friends, join some public ones. With your OR, you'll probably end up near the top 2/3 places in most of them. And if some are money leagues, even better!

It's very difficult to do really well against the entire FPL community when a significant element of FPL is pure luck. The more people play, the lower your probability of success.

MANC fans - what chance do you think we have of seeing Aguero get minutes between now and the end of the season...?

      - I can picture a GW38 cameo and mega-haul as a send-off just like when David Silva left the club...

Might do a GW38 Kane switch-out if I genuinely thought Aguero would play...

Appreciate everyone who commented on my post above, sometimes the knowledge we now have can take the fun out of a game I do love playing ❤️

Thoughts on my team below for next week and the coming gameweeks?

      Leno (no choice)
      TAA Rudiger Castagne
      Salah Fernandes Greenwood Salah Jota
      Kane Iheannacho

      Forster | Veltman Coady Davis

3.9m ITB, 1 FT, I can literally do anything

      1. Greenwood > Spurs mid
      2. Davis > DCL (bench Jota)
      3. Fernandes + Davis > Spurs mid + DCL (bench Jota)
      4. Greenwood/Jota > Zaha

Players on my watchlist for proposed DGW 35 - Digne, Zaha, DCL in particular

Martinez (eve) or Leno (new) for this week? Despite recent form you’d have to fancy Arsenal more likely for the clean sheet, but Martinez definitely more save points in him.

No. My first though is no. Vardy can score big. Then I realised that meant not having Kane. Kane has slightly better fixtures (23224 vs 22443). Have nothing to add on Tross vs Raph. Might miss a Kane haul or a Vardy one. Kane might bee more probable but minus four is for sure.

        probably will to me.
depends if Azpi is a wingback again though....maybe he'll need a rest doing that vs a center back.

Will alonso and mount start this week?

        i expect Alonso to.
not sure about Mount. if he doesn't he might come on which is tough - at least Alonso hardly ever gets subbed on.

      Is this defense order correct?

      TAA(mun), Alonso(FUL), Rudi(FUL) (Fofana(sou), Holding(new))

Half expecting to need my first sub - so really it's down to the order of Fofana or Holding

If Holding plays 90+ mins tonight, I'd keep this order, as in that case, there's a strong chance Luiz will start in the prem, so Holding may make a cameo appearance after Luiz' red card. If Holding's on the bench against Villareal, then I'd be 51% in favour of making him first sub

I'd say so - SOU without Ings will have less bite (assuming he's out)

i think i trust arsenal less than leicester - and think newcastle have looked frisky with asm back .

Really tempted to get Mount for a differential, which one do people fancy?

Siggy: decent form, on pens, decent fixtures and DGW guaranteed, just hit or miss
Maddison: woeful form, but good fixtures, could be explosive
Zaha: double, talisman, but bad team
      Bowen: OOP, decent fixtures
Lingard: just havent a chance to get him, but not much of a differential

Really depends how much risk you want to take, but for me, I'd rate them Lingard, Siggy, Zaha
