We round up the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points from Monday’s pre-season match at Anfield in our latest Scout Notes article.

You can read about the goals, assists, injury news and FPL takeaways from the weekend’s games below:

Don’t forget to check out our comprehensive pre-season page for more information on the action taking place ahead of Gameweek 1.

LIVERPOOL 3-1 OSASUNA

  • Goals: own-goal, Roberto Firmino x2 (£9.0m)
  • Assists: Fabinho (£5.5m), Kostas Tsimikas (£4.0m), Takumi Minamino (£5.5m)

Liverpool completed their pre-season schedule with a routine 3-1 win over La Liga outfit Osasuna at Anfield on Monday night.

24 hours on from the 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao, Jürgen Klopp fielded a selection of first-teamers in need of minutes and fringe players.

Takumi Minamino (£5.5m) was lively throughout and netted the opener before Roberto Firmino (£9.0m) converted an excellent low cross from Kostas Tsimikas (£4.0m) and added a second just before half-time.

As one of the later arrivals to the squad, having reached the final of the Copa América with Brazil, Firmino got 60 minutes in the tank and will have done his prospects no harm at all with an excellent showing – something that’s not ideal for Diogo Jota (£7.5m) and his first-team prospects.

The second half was a rather more subdued affair, with Klopp introducing a raft of substitutions.

Ibrahima Konaté (£5.5m) caught the eye with his distribution from the back on his first Anfield appearance, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (£6.0m) looked sharp in midfield, while Tsimikas impressed with an adventurous display from left-back and was also handed some set-pieces.

Robertson and Watkins injury latest as Son starts up front again in Kane absence 2

Prior to kick-off, Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) took to social media to confirm a period on the sidelines with ankle ligament damage, which was later discussed by Jürgen Klopp, with his manager’s comments suggesting that he could be out until after the international break:

“It could have been much worse. It will not be too long. I’m not sure if it will be before the international break or after it but, as I say, I think we got lucky.”

Given Tsimikas’ solid pre-season, he could well be a starter against Norwich City in Gameweek 1, then.

On the performance, Klopp said:

“The first half was absolutely exceptional in many different departments. There were a lot of long ball and I liked our formation around that and how we passed the ball forward with Bobby in between the lines.

From a speed perspective, we were exceptional today and Ox was on fire. Fab controlled the counter-pressing situations and how it should be. The last line were good, we defended well and the goals we scored were outstanding. The second half was harder but there’s nothing really to moan about.

With all the changes, I didn’t feel we really disrupted the rhythm so it was good. Ben [Woodburn] has shown up in a top, top way. In pre-season, he’s played in four or five different positions.

Kostas has also shown up in pre-season as well and on top of that, he’s needed as well.”

On this evidence, Liverpool look all set for their Premier League opener against Norwich City on Saturday.

Liverpool XI: Kelleher, N Williams (Bradley 80), Konate (Davies 80), Gomez (R Williams 60), Tsimikas (Beck 71), Oxlade-Chamberlain, Fabinho (Thiago 60), Jones (Woodburn 30), Gordon (Origi 46), Minamino (Henderson 71), Firmino (Clarkson 60)

Afternoon all. Any thoughts on this?

    Sanchez (4.0)
    TAA - Rudi - Shaw
    Salah - Bruno - Barnes - Torres
    Toney - Ings - Antonio

    Subs - Tsimikas- Bissouma- Amartey

    Ta !

Don't really see the point of owning Tsimikas if you're going to bench him personally. Torres is a bit risky for my taste, but you're confident he gets minutes he can do well. It looks good though 🙂

Silly comment. Surely you'd rather bench him as opposed to a non playing 4.0 or someone more expensive? Spread 0.5 elsewhere until WC with reassurance he'll come in for you if any no shows in early GWS.

I like the Torres inclusion, I'm trying to fit him in myself but currently all my midfield slots are taken. Everyone else is pretty template

Not sure about Rudi considering Chelsea has 4 tough fixtures the next 6 games. Also might not be able to rotate at the back with with Tsimikas and Amartey.

Torres is not nailed, therefore I'd stay out. Maybe opt for Mahrez/Gundogan instead you'll have to downgrade elsewhere.

Thanks all. Torres just a punt for the first few weeks. I think Chelsea will get a load of cs so rudi is set and forget for me, but yeah the fixtures aren’t great. I’ll have a think

Is this bench sufficient for first few GWs?

    Sanchez
    TAA Shaw Tsimikas Amartey
    Salah Bruno Son Barnes
    Ings Antonio

    Forster Veltman Gilmour Obafemi/4.5

I don't see a problem with it with two playing subs on the bench.

Not many other ways of fitting in the Salah/Bruno/Son trio.

Antonio to Wood or Toney would give you the budget to upgrade one of the players. I think 2 playing subs is enough but after Robertson returns you will need to use 1 bench transfer which is not optimal.

    DIGNE AND RAPHINIA.

    What do we do?

DIGNE: was set on him but starting to question myself as people are saying he might be off set peices. Now thinking Coufal or Cresswell but a bit confused. Wish Arsenal's fixtures were kinder as I'd like Tierney.

RAPHINIA: again, been in all my drafts but I'm not a big fan of those opening games.

What's your thoughts on both people?

I wouldn't touch a Everton player at the moment, Everton is a pretty toxic place at the moment with Rafa's appointment

I've not considered Raphina for one moment so can't comment

Raphinha will be coming in soon but not starting him. His price is outstanding value.

      I've got Digne.
Can't see him losing set pieces, nailed, fairly attacking, and unbelievable fixtures.
Seeing him as 5.5m mid, with the occasional CS.

Schmeichel is a frustrating keeper to own. He played all games last season and ranked 10th, with many keepers above him missing a game or two... Or many

And then, he's starting the season without a first-choice backline ahead of him

Not an Everton fan but I’d stay clear in the short term. Will take a while to get used to Benitez tactics. Richarlison will be out for a bit and DCL hasn’t had a pre season. Once those 2 are fit and firing it’s a different story

60/40 in favour. I’m taking the punt. Having 2 playing defenders on my bench worst case.

It's a young mans game that WB stuff. Milner would need oxygen at half time.

    Feeling bold?

The generational Toney only has as good a record scoring from open play as Maupay Watkins and Armstrong. Good probably. Special seems unlikely really. Is there a form forward at his price point?

One possibility is the dude that scored in his last encounters with Chelsea Spurs and Brighton - all fixtures he has int eh first 6. He also gets to play Brentford at home. He also has 7 goals in his last 13 PL matches and was among the top 6 or so for goals per minute among forwards last season when you strip out pens. Two goals in preseason in less than 90 minutes.

    🙂

        Tekkers

If you think BB is possible week 1 with multiple 4.0s then he's a curious option if you hold into week 2. Brentford? Type of team Zaha normally fancies and goals could well happen at both ends.

Toney more obvious of course and by no means a bad option

Stop Press: Tammy to Arsenal. Toney is toast.

Already across that. It's a possibility, but not confirmed yet. Not great sources on the stories. Besides, very unlikely Tammy would start GW1 & don't need him that much for GW3 & GW4.

Easy to offload Toney for Tammy when Arsenal's fixtures turn if/once he gets a starting spot.

last I heard a fee had been agreed with Roma but he is hoping Arsenal come in for him.

if he comes to Arsenal it would be contingent on sales. Willock is going through and whilst Eddie/Laca are available but no bids made yet.

I dont think he is a step above either of those to be fair

If it's certain by deadline, I'd take him. Can bench him GW1 no problem.

Viera's emerging "All balls to Zaha" policy really has me interested for 0.5m more, whenever I get tired of Barnes being subbed off early

Zaha is likely semi oop again

The formation has changed to this

        4-3-3 with a press
In attack switched to 3-5-2 with Zaha narrow and Mitchell as wingback (doing well there) and Ward tucking in as extra cover.
In defence something close to a 4-5-1

Vieira has said he intends to aim for Benteke's head more. This actually rarely happened with Roy as all the play filtered through Zaha who isn't that much into crossing the ball

Zaha could also well be on pens though status of Mil is unclear as he's likely injured but generally thought to have a job getting into midfield.

I'd say this is a goer. Arsenal need a striker, Tammy stays in London. Not sure if they still have the dosh to get Maddison/Odegaard.

    Salah - Bruno - Son - Jota - Benrahma
    Ings - Antonio

Subs: Foster / Veltman / Amartey / Obafemi
