We’re stepping up the frequency of our Suspension Tightrope articles as we approach Christmas, with the yellow cards steadily racking up for numerous Premier League players and the threat of a one-match ban looming.

There are a grand total of 29 Fantasy Premier League assets (FPL) who are now just one booking away from a ban, while four players were handed their fifth cautions of the campaign at the weekend and will miss Gameweek 16 as a consequence.

The yellow card amnesty is not until after the completion of a team’s 19th league fixture (more on that later), after which the threshold moves up from five to ten bookings.

Those FPL players who are already sitting on three and especially four cautions still have some time before they are in the clear, then.

CURRENTLY SUSPENDED

FPL Gameweek 15 review: 10

Shane Duffy (£4.2m), Sergi Canos (£5.5m) and Southampton pair Mohammed Salisu (£4.5m) and Oriol Romeu (£4.5m) are the four players who will be absent in Gameweek 16 due to yellow card accumulation.

The most notable Fantasy name from that quartet is, of course, Duffy, who still sits in over 18% of FPL squads overall and in around 10% of squads within the top 10,000.

ON FOUR YELLOW CARDS

Raphinha (£6.7m), who features in more than one in five FPL squads overall and in over 60% of the top 10k teams, joined the throng of players on four yellow cards after Gameweek 16 and is now just a booking away from a ban.

Joao Cancelo (£6.8m), Callum Wilson (£7.5m), Bruno Fernandes (£11.6m) and Conor Gallagher (£6.1m) were already walking the tightrope and managed to avoid a caution at the weekend.

There are some notable bench fodder names on the verge of unavailability, too, including Yves Bissouma (£4.4m), Josh Brownhill (£4.4m), Joel Veltman (£4.3m) and Mathias Normann (£4.5m).

ON THREE YELLOW CARDS

There’s less to sweat about if your player is on three bookings: most of them will just have to avoid picking up two bookings in the next four Gameweeks to dodge a ban.

There are 39 players in total on the above list, with owners of Michail Antonio (£7.9m), Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.3m), Bernardo Silva (£7.5m), Reece James (£6.2m) and Marcos Alonso (£5.7m) unlikely to be losing any sleep over their current disciplinary statuses.

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

As mentioned in the introduction, the yellow card threshold is raised to ten after a team’s 19th league fixture. That means following the completion of Gameweek 19 for all clubs bar Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley, whose 19th match of the campaign will now fall in Gameweek 20 following last week’s postponement.

Naturally, if there are any further postponements between now and Boxing Day, whether they be weather-related or Covid-enforced, that would affect the above.

The threshold for ten yellow cards is after 32 league matches, which will be April at the earliest.

Players collecting ten bookings before that point will serve a two-game ban.

Punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

    Son > Ronaldo for free?
I have 2 FT's and the options I have are:
    a) Toney+Son > Ronaldo+Bench Fodder > 5.1m MID
    b) Toney+Mbeumo > BSilva+Broja
I've planned this CR7 in move and now reluctant to change despite Sons good form and CR7's lack of form. But think that CR7 outscores Son in GW16. Thoughts?

    Team is
    Guaita
    Trent Cancelo Alonso
    Salah Jota Foden Son Mbeumo
    Antonio Dennis
    (Foster Henry Livra Toney)

At the risk of oversimplification, it seems like the debate around King vs Dennis seems to be:

    The stats followers prefer King
    The eye testers prefer Dennis

I have no strong opinion although I went for King. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

    1. Vote Joke

Dennis is cheaper (or he was when I had to make this decision)
Dennis has scored more of late, i'm sure.

For me, I may get rid of Toney and have Dennis & King. For the money they're worth it and strikers are generally muck this year, it's all about midfield and defence.

    3. JONALDINHO

King is more central, better stats, more minutes, on pens, doesn’t have to go to afcon. Has also done it in the Prem before. It’s an easy decision

        • 15 Years

Good points. AFCON is a big issue, but for now, I'm happy with Dennis as he's been getting me regular points.

        1. Amartey Partey
          • 6 Years

Dennis might still not go to AFCON. The Nigeria coach has a beef with him.

      2. MikeS
        • 11 Years

King is also more Injury prone, has fewer points, has scored fewer goals, is not in as good form and is rising and thus improving your team value slower, and afcon isn't an issue it's one transfer.

      3. Will Kane
        • 9 Years
        4 years, 7 months ago

Yes, based on the only entire 90 minutes of Watford I have watched (this weekend vs City) I felt that Dennis was more involved in general play but not necessarily in threatening positions. I liked the fact King was front and centre, even if no chance game his way on this occasion. That plus pens were the clinchers for me

Yes, and keep an eye on Broja. He looks like he has goals in him and he might be a good alternative to Dennis. If watford keep getting beaten, the confidence of the forwards wont remain as high as it is now and Ranieri's magic may wear off a little.

It is interesting to see many people proposing transferring out Son. He is Spurs best attacker, is in form, and fixtures are ok. Transfereing him for a MC mid with Pep roulette seems wrong. What am I missing?

    1. Fit_to_drop
      • 6 Years

Getting him out? You mean getting him in? If guys are looking to get him out, its because they are afraid of not owning a City or Man U player with current fixture run but Spurs have a great fixture run also, so it doesn't add up.

I agree- but many posts are about transferring him out- especially for a City mid. Yes, it saves money, but I believe that Son is a keeper for the long haul.

Yes, but Spurs now have a Brighton team low on confidence and a Leic team that keeps coughing up goals. I think Son can continue to score points.

Agreed, I'm thinking to swerve city and utd altogether despite their fixtures. Ronaldo not worth it since I'll be captaining Salah and too much risk of points being spread around for the city and utd mids when there are other good nailed options IMO.

It's in my mind, was always the plan this week no matter how well he played.

The main reason is that downgrading him allows for 2 upgrades elsewhere, so whilst Son may continue to do well, overall my team will hopefully outscore the team with him over the long run. But I'm still weighing it up this week.

I think its more the emergence of so many sub £8m mids offring similar returns - Foden, Bilva, Jota, Mount, Bowen etc etc

Can't have them all and Son represents a way to free up a few mill, as opposed to Son deserving a transfer out in isolation.

I'm keeping but only on the basis Spurs look good in the next two as Brighton/Leicester away (theoretically) should be harder fixtures than last couple

    1FT 0.3m ITB

    Guaita
    TAA James Cancelo White
    Salah Son Jota ESR
    Vardy King

    Foster - Livra Brownhill Toney*

Very early yet, but thinking of rolling then doing:
    Vardy + Toney + Brownhill > Antonio + Broja/Dennis/Fodder + City mid (-4)
    Any other suggestions?

That's the most obvious option anyway. I have a similar team (above) but cannot see a move in my team this week with 2 FTs. Selling Jota, ESR or Son are all moves that could hurt.

Totally, no options stand out as Toney replacements and White is an able deputy v SOU. Son and Vardy are my cash cows, but no way I'm selling either this week.

From the football i have seen in recent weeks, best two replacements for Toney are E Dennis, and A Broja. Not seeing much else out there in that bracket unless you can get up to a Wilson or Watkins.

What a terrible gameweek, 33 points with Ramsdale to go. ESR probably misses out later and I also own Alonso, Cornet and Toney, with no bench... awful!

I've also got Alonso, Cornet, Toney, as well as Reguilon with no bench. 39 + Ramsdale. Shocking week

Is alright going for B.Silva over Foden if it allows for having Bowen & Ronaldo?

Only way of affording Foden over Bilva is if I sacrifice Ronaldo or Bowen.

Why is Foden seen as more advantageous than Silva by a lot of posters?
Silva is more nailed, in better form, plays 90 nearly every time, more like to start when other senior players (eg KDB) are missing and less competition for places on his flank? For me B Silva is a better option.

Foden is probably the better option. It depends I guess whether you’ll captain Ronaldo over Salah at some point or not. If you will, then I guess so.

      Have you considered Gundo?

I have but I'd love to see Gundo & KDB play together once before I get him.

Thinking of getting Bowen this week and delaying Bilva vs Gundo decision till GW17. But I have decide this week if I'm getting Foden or not.

Other than Ronaldo is there any other United players people are thinking of getting in their squads?

    If Alonso is out for the weekend would you;

    A) Play Raphinha
    B) Raphinha > Bowen (-4)

    Cheers.

Depends who you have to come off your bench. If it's junk, then sure, but i'd want to be sure Alonso isn't playing before taking the hit.

I'm in the same boat. Sold Toney for Dennis using FT. Now contemplating Raphina to Bowen for a hit.

No. But I'm keeping Raphinha through his 'difficult fixtures'. His form is great. Ayling and Bamford are back, Leeds improving, and City, Pool and Chelsea are conceding the odd goal.

    Toney Raph to King/Dennis Bowen?
Thinking Bowen over BSilva this week as he has a better fixture/BSilva can't score every-week?

It could be followed by Mbeumo Vardy to Watkins BSilva -4 or Mbeumo Vardy to 4.5mid CR7 -4 before GW17.
Or would you make getting CR7 a priority for this week? But would have to lose Son or Vardy

Raphinha to Bowen for a hit.

    Team
    Ramsdale (Foster)
    TAA Cancelo James (Reguilon Livra)
    Salah Son Gundogan Jota Raphinha
    Antonio King (Gelhardt)

2 ft 0,9m in bank. Which option?

    A. Raph to Bowen and roll
    B. Son and Antonio to Bowen and Ronaldo
    C. Gundo to Foden/Bilva and roll
    D. Something else

    Thanks!

    https://guardian.ng/sport/red-hot-emmanuel-dennis-denies-reports-claiming-he-wont-honour-afcon-call-up/

OwnGoalNigeria, in a report on Saturday, claimed that Dennis had informed the Nigeria Football Federation that he has no interest in representing Nigeria at the AFCON in Cameroon.

The report further claimed that Dennis turned down the request by the NFF to be included in the pool of players for the AFCON as he’d rather stay back in England to help the Hornets in the Premier League.

But Dennis, in a telephone chat with The Guardian, said he never told anyone in the NFF or any media organisation that he would not play for the Super Eagles.

The former Club Brugge of Belgium forward said the report by the online portal was fake news, pointing out that it was always a thing of honour, pride and joy for him to put on the famous green and white stripes of the Nigerian national team.
