Burnley will have a Double Gameweek 27 after their previously postponed home match against Leicester City was rearranged for Tuesday 1 March.

It’s not a Double Gameweek for Leicester, however: the Foxes had been due to blank because their scheduled weekend match against Chelsea was postponed due to the clash with the EFL Cup final.

The Clarets’ other Double Gameweek 27 fixture is against Crystal Palace away.

Sean Dyche’s side also ‘double’ in Gameweek 26 against Brighton and Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur.

Leicester have three fixtures still be rearranged after today’s news, while Burnley have two.

INITIAL REACTION

As soon as Leicester were eliminated from the FA Cup on Sunday, this fixture always looked likely to be placed within Gameweek 27 as there currently are a limited number of free windows in which the Foxes can fulfil their four outstanding league matches.

This could, of course, change if Brendan Rodgers’ side are knocked out of Europe.

For the Foxes, developments over the last few days mean that they now have a fixture in Blank Gameweeks 27 and 30 when they could so easily have had none:

It’s Burnley where the initial attention lies from an FPL perspective, however.

The Clarets have ‘doubles’ in Gameweeks 26 and 27 and they stand a reasonable chance of their Gameweek 30 fixture going ahead; that would happen in Southampton are knocked out of the FA Cup by West Ham in round five but we won’t know that until the midweek before Gameweek 28.

DOUBLE GAMEWEEKS 26 and 27: BEST BURNLEY BUYS?

Nick Pope (£5.4m) and Wout Weghorst (£6.5m) are probably the stand-out targets at either end of the field.

After a shaky start to the campaign, Burnley’s backline has tightened up a tad. Pope’s own personal form has improved significantly too and he’s conceded just two goals in his last six Premier League appearances, averaging 6.7 points per match in the process.

The England goalkeeper’s expected goals prevented (xGP) tally has been a commendable +2.80 in his last half-dozen starts; before that, it was a league-worst -6.30 in 2021/22.

Burnley’s style of play – low pass completion among defenders, few goals scored at the other end – also works to Pope’s advantage on the Bonus Points System.

As for Weghorst, who we analysed in a recent Scout Report, he turned in a promising display against Manchester United on Tuesday and claimed his first attacking return as a Clarets player.

Man Utd’s defence, Gray and Cornet’s injuries, Bowen’s form: The FPL lessons from Gameweek 24 5

A lack of service for the Dutchman was one of our main concerns but Dyche turned to a more attacking set-up in Gameweek 24, moving ‘second striker’ Maxwel Cornet (£5.9m) out wide and introducing another forward in the shape of Jay Rodriguez (£5.2m) – something he did in the closing stages of the Gameweek 23 clash with Watford after a dour stalemate.

Five shots, four of them in the box, in two appearances is a decent start, even if we can’t quite expect the volume of goals he scored in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg.

Cornet’s fitness is the main downside to the goal-hungry Ivorian: the knock/cramp that forced him off against United was his fourth injury-related FPL ‘flag’ of the season and he has completed 90 minutes just once.

No-one else stands out in a goal-shy midfield but there are cheaper alternatives to Pope in the form of set-piece threats James Tarkowski (£4.9m) and Ben Mee (£4.8m). If Charlie Taylor (£4.4m) was still sidelined, then a cut-price Erik Pieters (£4.2m) would offer a real budget-friendly route into the Burnley backline, if not much in the way of attacking menace.

None of the Double Gameweek 26 and 27 fixtures really scream ‘clean sheet potential’, however, save perhaps Brighton away.

FPL DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 27 FIXTURE OVERVIEW

  • Double Gameweek: Burnley
  • Blank Gameweek: Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool
  • Single Gameweek: All other 16 Premier League sides

DOUBLE GAMEWEEK LATEST

FPL Gameweek 10 round-up: Saturday review, injury news and the things we learned 15
  • Gameweek 24: A Blank Gameweek for Chelsea and Brighton, no doubles.
  • Gameweek 25: A Double Gameweek for Man Utd and Brighton, a Blank Gameweek for Chelsea and Arsenal.
  • Gameweek 26: A Double Gameweek for Arsenal, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Leeds, Liverpool, Spurs, Watford and Wolves.
  • Gameweek 27: A Double Gameweek for Burnley. Three sides, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool, will have their weekend matches postponed because of the EFL Cup final, however.
  • Gameweek 28: A possible Double Gameweek for anyone bar Brentford, Crystal Palace, Man City, Man Utd, West Ham, Liverpool, Leicester (if they are still in the Conference League) and Norwich (if Leicester are still in the Conference League).
  • Gameweek 29: A possible Double Gameweek for anyone bar Brentford, Crystal Palace, Man City, Man Utd, West Ham, Chelsea, Leicester (if they are still in the Conference League) and Norwich (if Leicester are still in the Conference League)
  • Gameweek 30: No chance of a Double Gameweek and a near-certain chance of it being a Blank Gameweek, as it will clash with the FA Cup quarter-finals. Aston Villa v Arsenal, Wolves v Leeds and Leicester v Brentford are the only fixtures that so far will definitely go ahead.
  • Gameweek 33: A free midweek does allow for a Double Gameweek, although the weekend games do clash with the FA Cup semi-finals, too.
  • Gameweek 36: A free midweek allows for a Double Gameweek. This is likely to be the biggest Double Gameweek of the season.

There is also a chance of there being other small Double Gameweeks in Gameweeks 31, 32, 34, 35 and 37, with the results of cup competitions home and abroad likely to dictate that.

TEAMS WITH THE MOST FIXTURES OUTSTANDING

Rangnick's appointment could see Sancho become powerful FPL differential 2
  • Arsenal, Everton, Leicester (3)
  • Aston Villa, Burnley, Chelsea, Newcastle, Spurs (2)
  • Brighton, Leeds, Liverpool, Norwich, Southampton, Watford, Wolves (1)
  • Brentford, Crystal Palace, Man City, Man Utd, West Ham (0)

The above figures are based on outstanding matches from Gameweek 28 onwards and include games in coming weeks that we know will need to be reorganised (e.g. Arsenal’s fixtures in Gameweeks 25 and 27).

Delighted they confirmed this before deadline although I was already bringing in Pope and Weghorst on WC, but this should ensure no more tinkering

I'm on this currently and don't think I'll change.

        Sa Pope
        TAA Cancelo VVD Tierney Saiss
        Salah Bowen Ramsey Olise Bruno
        Maupay Weghorst Broja

Maupay + Bruno will move to Kane + Saka in DGW26 and I'm using BB. Only other possible change I'll make before deadline is Zaha over Olise, but I think I'd rather stick with Olise, very hard to predict what Zaha will show up and it's nice to have a Reading lad in the team.

I like the look of that team. Excellent front three to rotate also.

Did you opt out of MCI mid/forwards 'cos of rest/rotation and points being spread throughout team?

Also, what made you go VVD over Robbo?

          1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
            • 5 Years

Yeah that's exactly why, I had Foden and Mahrez(C) this week, Foden was going to go anyway as I've had him since GW7 or 8 and felt he was worth it despite the blanks and non-appearances as he'd haul in-between those but he hasn't been great lately. I expect a bit of rotation and they have slightly tougher games coming up so I'll see in a few weeks if I will go for another attacker again.

I went for VVD over Robbo I suppose because I have a tiny worry that Robbo may get a rest with a CL game before the double and the cup final after it (especially with Tsimikas looking like a very reliable backup). VVD also has a really good points per game ratio and I'm thinking there's a chance he could nick a goal or assist.

Really struggling to decide whether to bring in Bruno for a week to captain, or just bring in Salah now for gw25 and do without Man Utd players. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

    What do you think?

98% sure I'm going straight for Salah.

I may bring in Shaw/Dalot but I don't trust United at either end of the pitch so a BRI def is equally tempting.

yes definately confused. it seems logical to get salah in straight but a lot of projected points are pointing to bruno scoring 4 more than salah without accounting for the additional c points expected from bruno over any alternative

That's my thought. Tbh it's probably not going to be the make or break decision of the season, but a double captain always feels a little like hedging the risk.

Then again, Salah is Salah. If he looks sharp tonight, I'll probably just go straight for him.

        Cheers all!

I mean with Burn gone its one less CB spot for him to compete with.

I guess now its Dunk and Webster CB if they play 4ATB. If they go 5ATB Veltman slips in. But velts can also play RB/RWB.

Any Kdb owners out there considering selling for Salah or keeping him for Norwich game and bringing salah for dgw ? I Can’t decide

Tricky one. If KDB was guaranteed to start against Norwich I'd hold him but a fair few believe he's a good chance of being benched. I'm likely going:

      25 - Fernandes & Jota (KDB -> Fernandes (c))
      26 - Fernandes & Salah
      27 - Fernandes & Salah
      28 - KDB/Son & Salah

      (see below)

It feels that way, but for many it boils down to:

        - Going without KDB (who may be benched - or may haul!)
        - Going without Fernandes (who should be best option)
        - Going without both Salah & Jota (in serious trouble if/when Liverpool smash Burnley)

    Advice appreciated - 1 FT, 4.5 ITB.

    DDG*
    TAA, Robertson, Cancelo, Laporte
    KDB, Jota, Raphinha, Bowen, Ramsey
    Watkins

    (Foster, Dennis, Digne, Broja)

    A) KDB -> Fernandes (C). GW26 - Jota -> Salah (TC) (and likely Raphinha -> Saka)
    B) Jota -> Fernandes (C). GW26 - KDB -> Salah (TC) (and likely Raphinha -> Saka)
    C) Something Else

KDB has (nor) but presumably a bench-risk, Jota has (bur) and gives a little coverage for no Salah. I'm definitely getting in Fernandes (c) for this week regardless.

    Cheers..

I see.. well what the mentaculus said below is valid. Not the best week to bring a Spurs attacker, but long term could work. I wouldn't be confident doubling up Spursy attack though, plus both are pricey. If I were you, I'd gamble with KDB (could start and play 60 minutes anyway) and there's really no rush for you to sell him. Cornet, Maddison Mount and JWP can all wait.

So you want Son long term right, not just for 25? Not sure its worth 1 week punt v Wolves, but if you're doing Bruno - Salah & keeping Son...sure, if you can afford it. Prob 2nd/3rd best premium left if we're moving away from KDB

I don't buy the narrative that Kane is poor, admittedly I didn't watch the games yesterday but prior to that I thought he's looked on form without his sparring partner.

I watched the whole game & still plan to get Kane in. He wasnt poor at all. Saints high press worked more in Son's favour but Kane could easily have had a goal & assist, getting in good positions still. Huge improvement on earlier in season

At least it gives you an option not to confirm FH in 27. Maybe a hit or two will do

Never an assured starter in the first place. So many attackers in that team

      Because they rotate attacking players.

Zaha back from Afcon, scored a sizzler and daisy cut a penalty wide.

Since he was on the bench and came on he mustn't have had any issues. They have him, Benteke and Mateta as CFs, and Zaha, Eze, Ayew and Olise as wide attackers so spoilt for choice.

Rotation. Veiria has a lot of options available for the front 3. Edouard now only vying for CF due to Zaha back

You're not able to delete a gameweek column from the season ticker in the way you can delete a team row, are you?

Would make planning arround a free hit week easier because you could sort by the fixture difficulty on either side at the same time.

so burnley double in 27 makes FH in 27 a bit more attractive it seems.

FTs are likely to be used to take out arsenal players (who you likely want 28 onwards) so better to keep them and get a couple burnley temporarily

I think so. Was set on FH27 anyway but this works out well as I'll gladly take a punt on maybe Pope & Weghorst but wouldn't really want them in my team from 28

A bit but there were already five juicy fixtures, so just more choice now. I'm doing it.

Yeah I'm more inclined to use my last FH in GW27. Try and triple up on Arsenal and bring in Weghorst for 26. Arsenal are likely to double in 28 v Chelsea as well and play in BGW30.

Yep, FH in 27 looks strong atm. Wouldn't want a Burnley playing stinking up my team in the long-term so the double coinciding with the free hit is useful. Might as well get one or two Burnley players in the free hit. Get to carry Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool players through the blank too.

    DDG, Ramsdale
    Rudiger, Trent, Cancelo, Coady, Livra
    Raphinha, Jota, Bilva, Son, Bowen
    Antonio, Dennis, King

    2FTs, 2.7itb
Thinking I do Bilva, Son > Coutinho, Bruno for gw25, then shift Bruno to Salah in dgw26.

Just did my potential transfers for GW 26 and saw that I might get 11 DGW players for that week and 4 SGW players from Man city and Villa for free no hits.. Should I TC Salah or use BB for that potential team?

Same thoughts here mostly and of course Salah would be (C) in that potential scenario. Who would be good 5.8 or less Defender for that GW also? Rightnow thinking maybe Coady......

My calculations where not quite right would have 10 DGW players in GW 26 and 5 SGW players. 5th one is Bowen.

What are the chances of Burnley having a fixture (or a rearranged one) in BGW30? If it's high, then maybe Pope/Weghorst/Cornet can be a medium to long term option rather than just a temporary pick in DGW27.

Hassenhuttl said after the Coventry game he played too long, was only meant to play 60 but ended up playing 90 due to injuries forcing the issue. So to play again midweek after that was probably a stretch too far, should start next one you’d imagine.

I think you should just have a quick check that you'd be happy with your team for GW30 with the 3 games as it stands without FHing then, and if you're covered for Arsenal, Villa etc then go for FH27. Saves you having to sell a Pool/Ars player in order to field 11 in 27 & it really tests the limits your squad to bench the likes of Salah & Trent. If you decide on it early you can also attack 26 even more with extra Ars/Liv player
