After weeks of tweaking, you’ve set up a Fantasy Premier League (FPL) squad for Gameweek 1, joined a range of mini-leagues and briefly remembered what hope feels like. Just don’t forget to submit a Fantasy5 line-up, as you could miss out on a cool £10,000 prize!

Yes, the free-to-play weekly Fantasy5 game is back, and there are various other prizes on offer beyond the whopping jackpot.

You can even set up a mini-league and compete with colleagues, friends and family. To join the Fantasy Football Scout league, simply click here.

Win £10,000 for free with Fantasy5 by picking the best players for Gameweek 1 3

HOW TO PLAY

It’s as simple as this: pick five players from the nominated Gameweek 1 matches below and, if they all exceed their ‘points targets’ (a par score set by Fantasy5 for each asset), you’ll be in the money:

Win £10,000 for free with Fantasy5 by picking the best players for Gameweek 1 4

Even if you don’t succeed in getting all five right, Fantasy5’s leaderboard allows you to win prizes beyond the £10k jackpot.

We have selected our own picks for Gameweek 1, which can you can read below.

The deadline for this week’s entries is at 15:00 BST on Saturday 6 August.

SCOUT’S GAMEWEEK 1 PICKS

Starting at Spurs, where quotes from the pre-Southampton press conference have added uncertainty over the match fitness of Ivan Perisic (6.5) and Matt Doherty (6.5). The latter seems especially unlikely, leading us to another attacking wing-back, Emerson Royal (6.5).

Meanwhile, Leeds host Wolves after a decent pre-season ended with a 6-2 win over Serie B side Cagliari. Patrick Bamford (6.5) scored twice and is hoping to put a bad season of hamstring, foot and ankle injuries behind him. A home match versus Wolves’ new back-four system could be an ideal place to start.

The only summer signing amongst these picks is Raheem Sterling (8.5), now donning the blue shirt of Chelsea. With a five-season FPL average of just under 200 points, the 27-year-old England international guarantees goals and will be determined to prove that Pep Guardiola was wrong to sell him.

Jadon Sancho (7.5) has three goals from four pre-season outings, forming a promising front three with Marcus Rashford (8.5) and Anthony Martial (6.5). As the latter has been ruled out of the opener against Brighton, expect Sancho to return from the illness that kept him out of last weekend’s friendlies.

Finally, key Man City players like Kevin De Bruyne (10.5), Erling Haaland (10.5) and Joao Cancelo (8.5) have been priced very highly for their trip to West Ham. So let’s back Jarrod Bowen (7.5) – the scorer of both goals during their 2-2 draw less than three months ago.

HOW DOES FANTASY5 WORK?

Win £10,000 for free with Fantasy5 by picking the best players for Gameweek 1 2

Fantasy5 is easy to play as it follows the exact same scoring system as FPL, just without the bonus points.

It’s also the fastest media outlet for live Fantasy points, displaying all player points from the five games in question, as well as the live score and time.

For the more detailed lowdown, head here.

The competition is limited to one entry per person per round and selections must be submitted before kick-off of the first eligible match.

If two or more entrants correctly select five players who all score more than their points target, then the prize pot is split among all winners.

Can you do Dalot and Trippier? I might have misread that Perisic is a slight doubt for GW1 so if you are benching then A. That all said, I owned James for several unimpressive weeks last year, feast or famine I guess, I just avoid now...

Last few seasons the general consensus was that premium forwards ain't worth it(less points for goal, no CS point, etc) in comparison to premium mids and to lesser extend defenders.
How come then pretty much all drafts have Kane and\or Haaland ?

      It's shiny new season time.

Optimal approach is the best defenders and best midfield you can afford with a mid priced budget striker.

    3. Thomas Magnum
      • 10 Years
      3 years, 11 months ago

Because every RMT that don’t have either of them are met with “what will you do if Kane/Haaland go off”

    4. Hairy Potter
      • 11 Years
      3 years, 11 months ago

Happens every preseason. The trend starts as big at the back and then people get seduced by the shiny toys further forward. FOMO kicks in to chase the mids/forward who could haul and then people talk about planned early wild cards. Before you know it, the season has started and you're chasing price rises, bandwagons and last week's points. Then it's all about the DGWs and blanks.

    5. LangerznMash
      • 9 Years

Because Son went up +£2.0m in price whilst Kane went down -£1.0m equalling a massive value shift.

    6. Y26 Royal
      • 9 Years

There's a lot of nice mid priced midfielders but not so much for the forwards.
For example i have Kane and Mount. I really want Son so considered Mount to Son and then a cheaper striker, say Bamford or Wilson.
To me Mount and Kane looks better than Son and Wilson.

Like many of us, I have been wavering between James and Perisic for the last few weeks. I think today's news makes James by far and away the most sensible option to start the season with. Conte's comments on Perisic suggest he still has some catching up to do fitness wise and Azpi signing a two-year deal means James should allay any doubts that James will be playing as a centre back. It is also much easier to downgrade James to Perisic if you get the move wrong. Otherwise you need to find 0.5 from somewhere and that means two transfers. Finally, while Perisic is a brilliant player and potential gamebreaker at his price, James is settled in his team and proven in his league. Granted Perisic could get 18 points at home to SOU if he starts, but James could match that just as easily away at EVE.

You answer to your question might be dependant on if you owned James last season for his hauls or the consistent 0 and 1 point returns he had. I luckily owned him for his hauls but feel like I escaped the misery others suffered

Alli hasn't been a professional footballer for so long, even he probably thinks its time to retire

Wilson, Sterling & Bowen would be my picks

Wilson is in my squad and a few others.

Agreed re Alli but he may start as false 9 at this rate!

Great until LEI buy one and you have to waste a transfer. Why not take the combo when you WC then there's no uncertainty

Last season we all considered Son a premium mid when he cost £10.0m but this season Sterling isn’t viewed as a premium mid at the same price :/

I remember last season Son and Vardy were overlooked cause people said they were priced awkwardly, and they both scored well. Wouldn’t be surprised if Sterling turns out the same

It will be interesting if Sterling delivers consistently and could be great value but imo he always seemed streaky maybe due to rotation and he's in a new system so it's a wait and see for me.
