With Gameweek 4 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) almost upon us, we’re once again getting tips and advice from our top team of Pro Pundits, Hall of Famers and guest contributors.

Our writers will be providing regular articles and team reveals throughout the new season, with only Premium Members able to access every single one.

Next up is FPL Milanista, who is ranked 50th in our Hall of Fame and has posted overall ranks of 473rd and 1,547th in the last two FPL seasons. He is also a nine-year veteran of the Fantasy Football Scout site.

The FFS Pro Pundits 31

Gameweek 3 was not free-scoring but it was one that we can learn a lot from. One of the most important Fantasy Football traits that must be carried by any successful manager was grossly illustrated here – patience is a virtue.

It is always said that a person who can wait for something without frustration is possessing a very useful skill and that is exactly what you need in FPL. Owners of Ivan Perisic (£5.5m, 12 points) and Marcus Rashford (£6.3m, ten points) will understand.

However, instead of being distressed by past events, we shall keep our minds focused on what is happening next. A lot of social media talk has circulated about how badly the premium defenders failed in Gameweek 3 and, alongside the suspended Kalidou Koulibaly, we see Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m), Reece James (£6.1m), Joao Cancelo (£7.1m) and Andrew Robertson (£6.9m) amongst the five most transferred-out defenders.

So is this a logical move? Not really. These four premiums are exactly the ones in my own squad and I haven’t even considered letting any of them go.

Even if I was Wildcarding today, they would certainly remain in there without hesitation. Each is playing at home in a favourable Gameweek 4 fixture and we all know how explosive they can be on their day. Let’s just look at Perisic’s haul and hope that this weekend will bring similar rewards for these.

Premium defender stats

Additionally, here are some relevant stats to determine if we are being just blinded by their past historical FPL points or if they have simply been unlucky of late.

Alexander-Arnold, as always, is still dominating all creativity stats among defenders throughout the first three Gameweeks, with his 1.15 expected assists (xA), eight chances created and two big chances created top of the list.

    Bottomed. Any UFC fans here?

A Jamaican-born, Birmingham-based athlete named Leon shocked the world last Sunday.

Any chance the footballing equivalent does it this Sunday? 😎

With the 'Template' teams all at home this week, big at the back should fly again

    1. thegaffer82
      • 15 Years
      3 years, 11 months ago

I think there is a happy medium to be found.
My cheapest defender right now is Perisic. I think I can maybe go 4 at the back (Neco is brilliant for the bench) with a couple of 5-5.5 guys with TAA & James/Cancelo.
This would allow for Rodrigo/Harrison & Toney to be included. And you are still pretty big at the back anyway

Somehow I’ve ended up with Bailey, Andreas, Reed & Archer and I can’t quite afford to get someone decent like Harrison to replace Bailey (1.0mil in the bank).
What do you think of the following to restructure a little bit and put some money into MF & attack moving away from big 5 at the back

Robbo, Bailey & Archer > Neco, Harrison & Toney (-4)

Have the exact cash to do it. I know Robbo is a big loss before Bou at home but my midfield is in a state and I have TAA & Salah still.
    Yay or nay?

Gross is slightly cheaper. How about just Bailey to him and save 1 FT

I thought about him, but he just doesn’t appeal to me at all. Seems a weak transfer to me. But thx for suggestion!

Wait today and see if Robbo dropping in price tonight. If not then you can wait and do the moves next week, you can do that tomorrow if concerned about price changes because next gw is a midweek gw.

2 upgrades to 1 downgrade. Bailey and Harrison are likely to change price before deadline so it's probably worth it

I would have laughed at myself for suggesting this in previous seasons but Xhaka is an option for a 5.0 if you don't already have 3 Arsenal players and really need another starter. Been returning well so far this season. Discipline is obviously a worry with him though.

I don't mind it, I think you just have to prepare yourself for Robbo to do well this week but given it's a move that is for the future, too, adjusting your structure and getting Toney and Harrison who've both looked good and have good fixtures, I see the case for it. It's a yay from me

    Ramsdale
    Walker, Cancelo, James, TAA,
    Salah, Martinelli, Groß, Luis Díaz,
    Haaland, Jesús

    Ward, Andreas, N. Williams, Archer
2 FT, 0.4m in the bank.

Really at a loss at what transfer to make this week. Plan to ship out Diaz after the Bournemouth game. Want Perisic, but probably not more than Cancelo, TAA, or James, given they also have strong fixtures this week.
Currently thinking of Ramsdale-> Sanchez, with a view to getting Saliba in next week

Gotta admit, that looks really nice. Like the structure and price points you’ve got there.
The only worry (as I’m sure you know) is that TAA is playing Bou and is still posting crazy attacking numbers. Expect a pretty sizable rank hit if he suddenly starts firing this weekend

What's the better move here having 2fts and 0.3m itb? Quite torn as would love to have the 2fts next week but at the same time not sure if I want Gundo long term..

    A) Mount --> Gundo
    B) Mount+Iversen --> Zaha+Sanchez

If he is getting Sanchez then it's a clear upgrade on any lei gk, even if iversen gets the nod. Am a ward iversen owner. I can feel the pain 🙂

    Sanchez / (Ward)
    Cucurella / Trippier / Perisic / Saliba / (Neco)
    Salah (c) / KDB / Gundo / Martinelli / (Andres)

I don't really think there is a debate to be had.
If I would to get Jesus out, who would it be for? You could say Toney is quite good, and I would agree, but with Jesus being 8m you can have both (or all 3).

If you're to sell Halland, that:
      1) opens an extra city slot
      2) gives you funds for KDB, Son, Kane etc.

Due to his low price, Jesus just looks like a better asset. With 8m he doesn't have to score that much points to return his value.

I'd save in that case. Think the Rashers and Perisic picks are just slightly too risky to justify a hit for this week. Not bad moves to make for free if Rashford does well at the weekend and if it seems Perisic will start next GW though.

Was all set to save my transfer this week, but playing around yesterday and realised I had the exact money to get the team I want going forward from GW5 and prices were changing... so pulled the trigger.

I don't know what the rest of your team looks like but you don't have to show it.

Pick the combo with more value is all I am going to suggest.

          The decision is yours.

Aiming to finalise my WC team.
I have 1.1m in the bank. How would you spend it or will I keep it in the bank for future moves?

    Sanchez Ward
    James Concelo Trippier Saliba NWilliams
    KDB Martinelli Diaz Andreas Rodrigo

      I think I would keep.
Rodrigo might be moved or lose form.

Bailey just about, unless Gerard drops a hint that Bailey won’t start.

I think if, like me, you are being forced to start one of those every week then you should look to make some moves to upgrade that position

Why I’m sticking with big at the back

    What I’m doing with Mount

    Why Diaz didn’t score

What Andy Carroll looks like now will shock you

I think Klopp should consider starting Trent on right wing and Salah on centre forward. Trent is useless in defence in my opinion and Bobby's form is not the best at the moment.

I personally think it’s the midfield that is the root-cause of their woes elsewhere on the field.
Put Thiago & Fabinho back into that midfield and I’ll bet Trent, Robbo, VVD, Henderson, Salah etc…. all start to look a lot better

Yes. the midfield is out of order, and aging. Needs Thiago back, also Fabinho back to form. A signing of a dynamic midfielder would also do wonders.

Going to be tough when they need to replace Hendo, Thiago, Keita, in addition to Firmino.

Why doesn't the premium area have data for some players on the player comparison?

Which players? Been fine every time I've used it so far

I only tried Mitrovic. Came up saying no data, so I didn't bother continuing! This is on the new members area

Yeah it says that by default but if you leave it there for a while data might pop up eventually.

Ah ok I'm still using the old comparison tool, but I'm an anti-update Luddite at times. At least it works though

Might have to wait 30 seconds for it to load.

The old member's area is a little more responsive if you want to try that.

Are you talking about the beta area? It's very buggy for me in Chrome.

Yeah, I'm using the beta area in Chrome. I've done what others have suggested and waited, but still nothing. Annoying
