Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are in unfamiliar mid-season territory, as each and every one of us only has to think of the short term.

Unlimited transfers are handed to FPL bosses over the World Cup break, effectively creating a ‘third’ Wildcard for 2022/23.

So we’re only looking at Gameweeks 15 and 16 when it comes to transfer targets ahead of this Saturday’s deadline.

Above: How our Season Ticker looks when clubs are sorted by fixture difficulty over the next two Gameweeks

We’ll be looking at a few teams with the better-looking fixture couplets over the coming days, then, starting with Brighton and Hove Albion.

READ MORE: What Lateriser said about Man Utd assets ahead of Gameweek 14

BRIGHTON UNDER DE ZERBI

Roberto De Zerbi came to the helm at the Amex before Gameweek 9, so we’ve got a nice six-match sample to draw from when we look at Albion under new management.

Here we study the Seagulls’ underlying attacking and defensive numbers to see how they fare compared to other Premier League clubs over their last half-dozen fixtures.

TotalRank v other clubs
Shots877th
Shots on target33=5th
Shots in the box624th
Big chances16=3rd
Expected goals (xG)8.629th

Under De Zerbi, Brighton have encouragingly been top-half material for all the key attacking metrics listed above.

It’s a continuation of the sorts of figures they were churning out under Graham Potter but when we look at who the Seagulls have faced since the September international break, the above ranks are all the more impressive:

Brighton were bottom of our Season Ticker for fixture difficulty over this period, facing all of last season’s top four as well as a Brentford side who have lost only once on home soil this season.

In all six matches did Albion register at least one ‘big chance’, with nine of them arriving across the Liverpool and Chelsea games.

Actual goal output has veered wildly from the typically profligate (54 shots were registered without success in Gameweeks 10-12) to the prolific (three goals from six attempts against Liverpool), with Chelsea giving their hosts a helping hand last weekend with two own-goals.

TotalRank v other clubs
Shots conceded584th
Shots on target conceded236th
Shots in the box conceded434th
Big chances conceded13=13th
Expected goals conceded (xGC)6.846th

It’s been equally impressive at the other end of the pitch, despite just one clean sheet being registered under De Zerbi.

To be sixth for xGC having faced the four sides in the Champions League is excellent, with Manchester City’s modest 1.63 xG in Gameweek 13 the most that the Seagulls have allowed under De Zerbi.

    Best captain for UCL today:

    a) Mbappe
    b) Messi
    c) Rodrygo

Currently on Rodrigo as he starts, but might get subbed off - I see Benzema on the bench.

Much of a muchness between the three I think. All good picks. PSG not home to Haifa tonight. Juventus been poor in CL, not bad their last few games in Serie A, not sure if that's because Szczesny back after injury. Surely they have some pride to restore after Haifa defeat, they need to push for a win for Europa spot. Used to be good at defending not too long ago.

      Interesting, good feedback.
Might just take a punt and go with Rodrygo, I think.
He's on penalties, get a midfield point, currently in the ST position.
An easier opponent at home to Celtic, but Juventus is hardly the worst fixture these days.

I have watched many and FPL Raptor is pretty good with decision making. FPL Focal provides some of the best statistics but it is becomes pretty morbid when you get same opinion every week no matter which one you watch. Also FPL Champs (not 100% sure on the channel name) is also decent.

I asked this yesterday and got A as an answer, but i just want to be sure as my mini league rival will have either B or C as their captain today.

Should i change my captain/Would you change if you were in the same situation?

A: No, keep Salah as captain (22 pts.)
    B: Yes, Change to Mbappe
    C: Yes, Change to Messi
D: Yes, Change to Vicinius Jr.
E: Yes, Change to J. Mario

Whatever happens tonight will tell us more about Haaland/Foden/KDB starting on the weekend than Pep's conferences...we all know that. So I made this list what are your thoughts?

    A) Haaland benched tonight but plays some minutes = will start on Saturday therefore (C)
    B) Haaland benched tonight and doesn't play at all = Risky to (C) on Saturday
    C) Haaland not on squad = Not (C) on Saturday
    D) Haaland starts tonight = Easy (C) on Saturday

I have a theory that team value is more important this season with 3 WC to optimise squads. So taking a few hits/making transfers early to catch rises/avoid drops may be worth it for the extra value in wc2 and 3.

Obviously not much of a history to base this on but it's how I'm justifying my hits. Makes sense or BS? Any good articles analysing the benefit of higher team value vs taking hits? Have you been paying attention to team value? What's yours at this stage?

    1. jacob1989
      • 4 Years

Points all that matter. This year with Salah not really essential nor taa and plenty of mid priced fwds and mids performing, value really not that important this season.

Taking hits for value is waste

I don't think this has much merit behind it. You only really need one premium, maybe two in which you can fit a good squad in 101mil.

TV always allows you to get the more expensive (desirable) player at some point in the season rather than the cheaper one. Whether that pays off is anyone's guess. There are plenty of occasions when the primo defender fails in the DGW and the donkey CB that low TV teams can afford gets his one goal in 3 years and then is taken off before the opposition score a consolation. But, the primo picks are primo for a reason

Really don't like my team! Looking forward to the break now, having got rid of Trossard instead of Zaha a couple of weeks back and having the likes of Chilwell is problematic. Even got rid of Jesus instead of Mitro to bring in Wilson, I need a break!

    Zaha > Trossard
    Salah > De Bruyne (-4)
    Andreas > Almirón (-8)?

    Yay or Nay?

    Thanks.
