It’s that time of the week again when our in-house team of Sam, Marc, Tom and Neale debate the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players they think should make the Scout Picks cut.

Our panelists submit 18-man player longlists with the focus just on the upcoming Gameweek, so there are Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion triple-ups aplenty.

A reminder that if you want to hear our thoughts on transfer targets beyond just Gameweek 36, our Watchlist has been updated in midweek.

MORE ABOUT THE SCOUT SQUAD

Everything you ever wanted to know about the FPL Bonus Point System - part one

The players who get the most votes are much more likely to make the Scout Picks, although the final XI can’t exceed £83.0m – so occasionally, cheaper alternatives have to be found.

Each of our writers must meet the following requirements for this feature:

  • At least one sub-£5.0m goalkeeper
  • At least one sub-£5.0m defender
  • At least one sub-£6.0m midfielder
  • At least one sub-£7.0m forward
  • No more than three players from the same club

SCOUT SQUAD’S PICK OF THE BEST FPL PLAYERS FOR GAMEWEEK 36

anyone else find this season boring?

way too many dgws that teams pretty much choose themselves. Everything is either bringing in dgw players or setting up for a future dgw

I swear I see this question every day

Still a relevant question. My team is always pretty shamelessly template (because I take who I think are the "smartest" players to take, and so do lots of other people), but this season feels next level.

Yeah you lose a bit of edge when there are so many blanks and doubles, as everyone's teams converge towards the same players.

In years gone by, serious players could gain from the casual not planning for the B/DGWs, but there's so much content now, those advantages are almost gone.

Nail on head. The informed player has seen a rapid increase over what seems roughly the last 4 years (give or take). It's progress, but must be (largely) why the game has become so difficult

Yup, all integrity and edge in the game is now forever lost, not enjoyable at all

I've enjoyed it since the restart. Some of the fun has been with differentials and not copying content creator strategies or picks.

Not boring but frustrating. Fpl should do better imo. Auto sub is crap, what’s wrong with manual sub. Not to talk of VAR, Fpl‘s mysterious assists & bonus points. I’ve got to the point where I just don’t pay too much attention to the game compared to other fantasy football games I play.

I mean, why pick 15 players if we can’t make full use of it. Who cares if other managers are too busy to make subs themselves. So many managers play this game now & it will keep on increasing, about time they try to make things different apart from chips.

In fact, it is both boring & frustrating!

I'm giving it a rest next year and then reassess

Lateriser had some stunning success and did just that

I'll probably pop in just to see what obscure decisions folks are pondering. Imagine waking up from a coma just as the Almiron bagonwheel was in full swing

Haaland being obvious C most weeks and extremely bad luck combined with some poor decisions because of having had "life" has made this season my worst ever. When everyone is spoonfed, team value has been inflated and so on, I am waiting for next season. However, I fear that pricing is going to be a problem again and creating too good team from best teams is going to be far too easy.

The boring thing is this question.

If the game was so predictable, you'd be top of the world.

There's a template but as always, it only gets you to top 100k- the rest is on luck and skill.

Two 50-50s here if anyone has a view.
    Play...
    A. Alvarez (eve)
    B. Estupinan (ars, new)

And secondly, preferable combination for 36-37 (affects direction)
    1. Grealish*, Enciso, Bruno
    2. Alvarez*, Mitoma, Bruno

    *possible bench in 36

    Please:

    Steele
    TAA, Trippier, Burn
    Salah, Grealish, Rashford, Mitoma
    Haaland, Isak, Watkins

    Raya, March, Gabriel, Mee

2 free transfers, £2.2 in the bank

    A. March to Ødegaard (bench Watkins or Grealish, save other ft)
    B. March to MacAllister (bench Watkins or Grealish, save other ft)
    C. Burn to Shaw, Watkins to Wilson (and bench March)
    D. Burn to Shaw, March to Joelinton (bench Watkins or Grealish)
    E. Mee to Shaw, March to Øde (bench two of Shaw, Grealish and Watkins)

Leaning towards E, but seems a waste because of double GWS

Not a Newcastle fan but I think the Brighton game will be the one which will see heavy rotation from them than the Leicester game especially if they beat Leeds.. Leicester still in a relegation battle means Howe will prob. like to a field a strong 11, also that is their last home game of the season, think that will be close to their strongest 11

    1. Hairy Potter
      • 10 Years
      2 years, 9 months ago

The back four picks itself with perhaps only Targett being an option to replace Burn at left back. If Longstaff is out, then the midfield three picks itself as well. The rotation will primarily come in the wide areas, where Howe uses subs every game anyway.

In terms of striker, Isak looks like first choice with Wilson coming off the bench. Wilson could start against Brighton or Leicester. The latter might suit him more.

Hi guys, just wondering what to do here

    Kepa
    Shaw - Trippier - TAA
    Salah - March* - Martinelli - Mitoma
    Isak - Haaland - Watkins
    ______________________________
    Raya: Saka: White: Moreno

    1FT, 1.3 ITB

Not keen at all on adding Mac Allister, and certainly not their defence with these fixtures, so just pondering the below:

    A) Watkins > Wilson
    B) Watkins + March > Wilson + 6.9 MID (unsure who) -4
    C) Watkins + March + White > Wilson + Odegaard + Akanji -8

Bit of a loss really as what moves to do at all haha!

    Appreciate any input gents 🙂

Isak has been first choice since they've both come back from injury. Before Arsenal, Wilson had only started the midweek games against West Ham and Everton. Isak could in theory start both GW36 games and Wilson start in GW37, or they might get one start each in GW37.

Kane & Murphy --> Wilson & Fernandes with 2 FTs?

Would give me DGW in 36 (Wilson) and in 37 (Fernandes). On the other hand, Kane is nailed whereas Wilson is not, and I'm unsure about doubling on MUN mids given their erratic form.

Tempted, but it would mean using a FT and benching Mahrez. Happy to just have Isak. If there is a reliable leak suggesting Wilson starts against Leeds then I might do a panic FT.

I would go for Ode at this stage for sure (or Martinelli)

A lot of us will have benching headaches this week. Obvious dilemma for me is Trent v Estu (and to a lesser extent the keepers)

    Does this look right?

    0FT 1.3ITB
    De Gea
    Trippier Schar Trent
Salah Bruno Rashford Mitoma Mac Allister
    Haaland Isak

    Kepa Estupinan Ake Greenwood

    Isak or Trippier for captaincy

    Cheers

Looks just right. Would play TAA and captain Isak. Good luck!

March because he isn’t likely to play again this season

      Or both moves

1 if starting. 2 if not (and starting). 5 otherwise.

I'm struggling so any suggestions are appreciated. Maybe someone will see something I can't see:

    2FTs, 0.2m ITB

    Steele
    Shaw / TAA / Trippier
Mac Allister / Rashford / Mitoma / KDB / Salah
    Isak / Haaland

    Johnstone; Stones, Toti, Greenwood

My current mindset is to burn a transfer this GW and still have 2 transfers for GW37.

    Your thoughts are appreciated.

    TIA.

So I've decided to bench Estu and March and then play TAA, Botman, Shaw

2 FTs, one using Watkins to Isak

Any objections then please speak now or forever hold your peace

Sounds like a plan, personally I'm playing Estu - but I don't have TAA

    March owner here.

Already done FT bringing in Isak for Watkins and current front 7 looks like this:

    Rashford, Grealish, Mitoma, Salah
    Isak, Haaland, Wilson

Question is, after playing 90 midweek do we think Grealish will start?

If not then do I transfer March out for MacAlister for -4 and get the double?

    Help would be appreciated

Grealish is a tough one to call. He had his rest against Leeds last weekend and Pep has started Grealish in a lot of games consecutively so I don't think 90 mins against Madrid has any influence in him starting this weekend. I am currently predicting him to start LW

Mmmm, interesting way of looking at it. So maybe stick with Jack then. He could fill his boots with 75 minutes against Leeds....

      A to follow masses
B to hope for a differential

      I'm going both
