Why aren't Man City keeping clean sheets? 3

-6.50 expected goals prevented (xGP) by Ederson (£5.4m) this season. In layman’s terms, the Manchester City custodian has conceded 6.5 more goals than what data providers Opta deem he should have based on the quality of shots faced. The only four goalkeepers with a worse xGP in 2022/23 have all lost their places: Gavin Bazunu (£4.4m), Illan Meslier (£4.5m), Danny Ward (£3.8m) and Mark Travers (£4.2m).

78.1% of the shots that Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.6m) has faced this season have been saved by the Chelsea goalkeeper. No Premier League shot-stopper with more than 10 starts to their name has a better save percentage. Kepa can also not be beaten by anyone else for FPL save points (seven) since Frank Lampard returned to west London.

89% of the passes that Jason Steele (£4.0m) has made this season have been successful; no other current Premier League number one has a better pass completion rate. Roberto De Zerbi previously said that Steele might be the best goalkeeper in Europe in terms of playing the Brighton coach’s preferred style of football, more specifically distributing from the back. Robert Sanchez‘s (£4.5m) pass completion rate, incidentally, is 75%.

Is it worth taking a hit to replace March for the below options? My bench is looking rather thin!

    A. Odegaard
    B. Martinelli
    C. Mac A
    D. Zinc > Porro

    Kepa

    Estupinan / TAA / Trippier / Schar

    Rashford / Mahrez / Salah / Mitoma

    Haaland / Isak

    Raya | Solanke | March | Zinc

    Thanks

Thanks. Is Mac A worth he -4?

Brighton have tough games, that is why I was thinking of Ode or Martinelli.

Mac A probably not worth the -4, mate. His only good fixture in the next 5 games (vs. SOU) happens right in the middle of a Thu-Sun-Wed turnaround. So, rotation risk, games against good opposition (meaning less possession and chances to get forward), uncertainty over role - guess the cons outweigh the pros here.

Thanks, this is why I was hesitant to bring him in. Should I go for Odegaard or Martinelli.

Their fixtures are good. This week -4 or wait?

If it were me, I'd go ahead with the transfer this week. Prefer Martinelli too. Not much logic behind it, just that Ode has had two big returns recently, while Marti is probably due. GL for the gameweek!

    How to fix this bunch?

    Kepa Raya
    Trip Esta Botman Shaw Chill*
    Salah Rash Mitoma Mahrez March*
    Haaland Wilson Watkins

    1.8 in bank, 1 FT

    a) March to McAllister

    c) Botman + Watkins > Isak + new defender
    d) something else

Brighton players looked very tired in Everton defeat. March looked lively in the 2nd half but got injured. I can't see Brighton scoring against Arsenal & Newcastle. I can see both games 2-0 / 3-0. Why play Brighton players? Maybe MacAllister on penalties, but certainly no Brighton defenders! Ferguson might be worth a budget pop. All in all I'm thinking of benching my Brighton players!

    1. Zeeshz
      • 2 Years
      2 years, 6 months ago

Agree with not playing Brighton defenders, but the team's underlying attacking stats have been too good to ignore. Like, even a tired Brighton ran up ~2.8 xG against Everton. I expect that to drop a little against the bigger sides, but still they should be good for a goal or two in both games this GW.

    2. Whats the Huth
      • 10 Years
      2 years, 6 months ago

      Agreed. They’re an avoid.

They would be benched for most people if they were playing in a SGW.

    3. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 5 Years
      2 years, 6 months ago

Defenders I think yes. But attackers I'd definitely play, their attacking stats are among the best this season (think xG Philosophy said Brighton are 3rd on xG while Arsenal are lucky to be as close to City in the league compared to xG stats) and they've scored in their last 10+ in a row. Meanwhile Arsenal have two clean sheets in 10 and Newcastle just the one. Madness to drop their attackers I think.

      1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
        • 5 Years
        2 years, 6 months ago

Also they generally tend to play well and score in these games against top 6 sides. Just looking at their last few results, beat ManUtd, beat Chelsea, lost but we're screwed over by VAR against Spurs, beat Liverpool, and lost to Arsenal (but still scored twice).

    Steele (Iversen) (oops)

    TAA Tripps Shaw Dalot (Stones)

    Salah Mitoma Rashford (March Andreas)

    Wilson Haaland Isak

    Advice for this week?

    A) Roll
    B) March > Mac

Something else? I want to bring in a man city mid next week for Andreas...so can't afford Odegaard or Martinelli but after Brightons thrashing and tough week ahead I'm not sure it's worth it to get Mac

    1. Zeeshz
      • 2 Years
      2 years, 6 months ago

Any chance you can bring forward the Andreas -> City mid transfer this week? Mahrez might be a good punt for this GW and should play at least one of the GW37 fixtures. If not, I'd suggest you roll the transfer to attack GW37 better.

Without a double, I like the look of Porro.

It's Trent then possibly Stones but he'll possibly miss the next one.

Are Villa done or still worth a pick?

      Maybe White again?

      Already on Isak.
50/50 on whether to bring in Wilson. Causes a benching headache later.

What would you do out of these three options please:

    a) Play Grealish and Alvarez
    b) March => Mac A and bench Grealish
    b) March => Mac A and bench Alvarez

      B is the safest option

      You'd happily BB that.

Gotta hope it's double game week delight.

Anyone else thinks that maybe its better for Wilson to be benched vs LEE and start vs BHA? Game vs Big Sam's Leeds away reeks of defensive slugfest, and Brighton at home looks to be a lot more packed with goals, therefore benefiting Wilson to start that game. And as we saw, he can score a brace from bench so not that big of a deal if he doesnt start the first game

Can leeds sit back and afford to go for a draw?

All conjecture but I feel like Isak will start v Brighton, Brighton aren't Arsenal but they'll have plenty of the ball like them and Wilson had little impact v Arsenal from what I saw and didn't look very involved. Isak still looked lively at LW and moreso in the few minutes he had at CF after Wilson went off, not sure Howe will want a repeat of what happened in the Arsenal game in a similar game

Think I’m selling Mitoma to Willock.

Much prefer Newcastle fixtures and was going to get Willock before the FPL “experts” decided they wanted him.

Mitoma is the one in the dangerous positions & how he hasn’t hauled is a miracle.
