Luckily haven’t seen him in many drafts. But with 12 goals and 17 assists two seasons ago, he can be a steal.

I never even knew Robbie Keane was with Tel Aviv. I just thought he rolled out once a year for Soccer Aid.

Below are some of the signings from last season and also the reason I don't get excited when clubs announce a new signing that's lets say not a household name. I included a link to the article from the January deadline day signings to show some of the panic buys clubs made that have literally done nothing!
The only matter at hand now is for clubs to settle on how much of a financial hit they are prepared to stomach on a player not 12 months into a five-year deal. Some of them have been packed off on loan and completely forgotten about already.

    Arsenal: Fabio Vieira
    Bournemouth: Ilya Zabarnyi
    Crystal Palace: Naouirou Ahamada
    Everton: Ruben Vinagre
    Fulham: Kevin Mbabu
    Liverpool: Arthur Melo
    Southampton: Joe Aribo
    Tottenham: Arnaut Danjuma

      Crystal Palace: Naouirou Ahamada

Palace wanted to give him time to settle properly & we were well covered in that area. Now we've lost McArthur & Milivojević he will be like a new signing.

On the other hand Botman, Estupinan, Palhinha, Akanji, Martinez were some of the signings of the season.

You have to say that at least Akanji was well established before joining City. Played with Dortmund in the CL for the last five years.

You could say the same about Arthur and Danjuma. These are players that your average PL watcher won’t know, as per the OP.

Arthur Melo has a great CV but he realistically failed at Barca, Juve and Liverpool (the latter mostly because of injuries). Danjuma was an interesting transfer, but he never got a chance in that team as Son and Kane are unbenchable. The players from your comment have been significantly more recognized and were expected to perform better.

I'm sorry but if you know who Estupinan and Martinez are, you know who Arthur and Danjuma are. Danjuma played in the same team as Estupinan ffs, never mind already playing in the Prem before.

Both relatively known from Villarreal, Danjuma only had half a season at Tottenham’s sinking ship to prove himself. He wasn’t a bad signing at the time, but like I said as a striker/winger it’s hard to break in against Son/Kane.

Pff, that’s just bad football knowledge. Pointless to lose words on Akanji, he’s been a starter at BVB for years, and Estupinan’s remarkable name was known from his times at Villarreal.

I understimate the ingorance of an average Premier League supporter (not meaning you here but Andy’s comment on Akanji and Estu baffles me).

Worth noting I also only watch the PL and European competitions.

Since European competitions got taken away from terrestrial, I think most don't bother watching the matches unless their teams are involved (until the latter stages anyway). The only reason I knew Estupinan before is because Villarreal were in our CL group, otherwise I wouldn't have a clue because I'm not watching La Liga or CL group stages that don't involve United.

Estupinan is held up as the poster boy (in England at least) for Brighton's recruitment department being the best in the country at unearthing unknown gems from obscure nations.

Down to these options in present draft- which would you go for? A would mean bench with 2 4 m defenders

A Trent Mbeumo Mitoma Jesus or

B Shaw Foden Martinelli Ferguson ( with sufficient cash for Nkundu if starts season well)

I don’t have a problem with two 4.0 defenders if they’re both playing. I think most people will come around to it.

Personally, I don’t get all the vibes from Mbeumo or Mitoma either. I’m probably wrong. Just my gut.

            So many timeless quotes:

"You can't run from a Loftus Cheek!"

Mark also got so much stick for backing some young unknown £4.5m defender called Trent Alexander Arnold, as well. Or Terence Trent Darby as Joe called him! 😆

When Mark wildcards this season, you should get Granville and Joe on blackbox as special guests for charity. During the show, ask people to donate to perhaps a men's mental health charity. I'm sure lots of scout old timers would chip in. I know I would. You'd probably raise a fair few quid!

I like it but Enciso is not guaranteed a start. Anyone else you can get for that slot? Otherwise you have to downgrade Jesus and upgrade a mid, then play 4-5-1.

Stones to 5.0M (there are a few who outscored him last season). You don't need the anguish of triple ManC with such a poor bench.

Would probably go stones and mings to Shaw and Estu, maybe foden and enciso to Mbuemo and Mitoma just because how thin the bench is, can't risk any rotation

I did, but I have an Arsenal double in the back and Jesus was too pricey.
I have Alvarez but may switch to Ferguson if he's nailed. Tarkowski rotates better for five games than
Botman. Good call on Flekken. Shied away from Enciso, and have Andreas, but would switch if Enciso is nailed.

why Pau over Mings? I think it's a mistake to waste an Arsenal spot on Balogun, unless he goes to a pl team like Palace.
Definetly want a different keeper than Johnstone. At 4.5 Pickford seems to be the best and has good fixtures.
Bell has a blank 2nd week I'm with Baldock of sheffield. IMO gl

Nobody is talking about Diego Carlos. I suspect it could be him and Pau as CBs. I want a 4.5 Villa defender, but I'm holding off at the beginning until I'm sure one is nailed.

There are suggestions from Villa fans that Diego Carlos could be deployed as an inverted right back to allow Moreno freedom to bomb forward on the left. Mings and Pau as the centre backs in that scenario.

Interesting. That strengthens my case that it's better to hold off Villa defence until we see more. Their opening fixtures make that easier too.

Just as likely Pau and Konsa at CB in that scenario.

If we don't sign a new RB Cash is probably safest to start with.

In reality, I wouldnt start with a Villa defender, wait for clarity on line-up. Remember Carlos was bought in to be first choice and missed whole season through injury

Definitely A, not very sure on DCL might go Wissa over him but if he can stay fit for some good early fixtures he could go very well

If you put a gun to my head and made me chose, I would go A. However, a lot can change between now and GW1, and frankly both could become viable pairings. Preseason will tell us a lot.

About the same level of risk/reward. Probably Nkunku as he will presumably get the minutes and then it's just down to performance, whereas Darwin is at risk from Gakpo, Jota & Diaz.

    Looking at James or Chilwell.
Which is the better option not including injury risk? Is James likely to stay more defensive which means Chilwell is the better option for attacking returns?

I haven’t seen a lot of him but in the recent u21’s he was playing on the right but that doesn’t mean anything. I suppose if he’s versatile it’s just another added threat to any of the attackers.

It would make me more nervous about Enciso in particular but more options = more risk for all Brighton attackers yes.

Brighton have SIXTEEN midfielders listed in FPL, but no adequate cover for Mitoma or March. My guess is Palmer wouldn't be nailed in the starting XI straight away - he's need to learn De Zerbi's complex ways anyway.
Great value and very exciting when he does get regular starts.

With some players the only time they are not injured is when they are about to be injured.

Last season this applied to Martial, DCL, James and a handful of others that might otherwise interest FPL. It isn't worth the risk with any of them imho.

Why hasn't scout covered Yasser Larouci yet? Will he threaten Baldock's minutes? One is a left back the other a right back so Baldock is safe?

Should have stated that Estu is already in my draft.

Basically seeing if it is best to go with triple Arsenal attack. Saka / Martinelli / Jesus

I've flimflammed over how to distribute my 3 Arsenal assets.
If you're willing to have a 5.5 defender, 3 attacking Arses is good to go. Otherwise, I'm happy to go with 3x4.5 defenders and rotate/play the fixtures.

There are other 5.0m defenders who aren't too popular - the City pair are risky re Peptation. then there are your United assets plaus Kounate who have no attacking threat. Then there's Dunk and Mee. Porro is becoming increasingly popular.

I have had Porro in a few drafts, but yet to see how Spurs line up.

Obvious candidate would be Shaw and 3 Arsenal attackers. Not given much thought o rotating 4.5M defenders though.

Who is your rotation pair? Brentford and Villa?

            1. Andy_Social
              • 13 Years
              2 years, 6 months ago

No, my strategy is not one that people think about. Rather than rotate, I'll buy and sell defenders according to fixtures. So I might have a Brighton 4.5 for the first 2-3 GWs then sell him. Depending on fixtures I might bring in Botman, 4.5 Villan, 4.5 Brentford, 4.5 Chelsea and so on at various times.

Heavy hitter 11. Shitty bench but i'll wildcard early if this doesn't work out....

    Fabianski (Areola)

    Haaland Kane Calvert-Lewin

By the end of the season Paqueta starting playing like the player he was touted as before he arrived in England. So he could be a gem. Agreed about mid, though Kluivert and Calvert Lewin is the price of having Salah, Kane, Haaland and TAA.
