    Here’s my attempt:

    Pickford
    Stones/Estu/Zinchenko
    Salah/Saka/Foden/Enciso
    Haaland/Jesús/Nkunku

    (Areola//Nakamba/Bell/Beyer)

Zinchenko could be Gabriel if I chicken out of the more exciting option and go for safer starts.

Then the idea is, the BHA boys make way for Chilwell/5.0m MID in GW3.

    Thoughts?

Ranger - check page 2 of the list - 5.5 forward.
Can play in about 4 positions, but he still makes me too unsure of Enciso - and Ferguson.

Enciso is indeed at risk, but I’m only planning on going with him for a 2wk early punt.
Plan to ‘play the swing’ of BHA>CHE when the fixtures turn.

So, it’s defo a risk, but hopefully a calculated one

    Throwing this squad out there;

    GK: Pickford / Areola
Def: TAA, Gabriel, Botman, Beyer, Bell
Mid: Salah, Fernandes, Saka, Ramsey, Nakamba
    Fw: Kane, Nkunku, Calvert-Lewin

Appreciate there's a couple of gambles in there but gets 5 big players in (Pickford could move to any £4.5m keeper). It would be reliant on Kane staying and looking in good form

Thanks for info re Ramsey. Did have Buendia there.

DCL is a big gamble but if (and it's a big if) he stays fit then think he's great value. Had seen that re Kane (though it's not Levy saying he'll sell, it's Spurs' owner telling Levy to sell) but if he goes to Man Utd then would still be a great pick.

Not sold on this team by any means, just exploring what a no Haaland side looks like

There is plenty of options Varane and Martinez - United yet to concede preseason defence looks superb (United Double up in defence is very feasible)

Dunk - v Luton for Brighton

Later in the season Schar becomes an option, as does Konate

Was talking about to start with.

Neither have goal threat and most (including myself at present) will start with Onana. Fixtures aren’t good enough to double-up on.

Brighton defensive double-up is also a bit much considering their dodgy keeping options and unsettled midfield.

Oh I see what you mean now.
To start with I am likely going for a BB gw1. I will be doubling up on Brighton gw1. Steele and Estupinan. Dunk also an option.
I think the brighton defenders can be phased out for Chelsea and Newcastle.

Where he played yesterday v Fulham was very much not his normal position, I share the same feelings as the poster.
First half was something of a 4-2-3-1 / 4-2-2-2 with Darmsgaard of all people occupying the high space and pressing with Wissa up top. Mbeumo was about ten yards wider and further back than I would have expected/wanted.

I was all about Mbeumo even before fixtures were released but monitoring closely now after that game. Early days though, so let's see what Brighton game delivers in terms of positioning.

Wasn't in the squad. Roerslev and Ajer took turns, both fairly decent, Roerslev unexpectedly so and advanced/threatening on outside of Mbeumo.

I wouldn't touch any of Roerslev, Ajer or Hickey for fantasy though.

Hi Mentaculus. Last night felt like a bit of a fitness test/give everybody a go, and I'm trying not to draw any conclusions about shape, performance, etc. But Darmsgaard position was the most unusual aspect of Brentford's shape in first half, plus he had a lot of energy in the press which bodes well for his prospects as that is the part of his game that lets him down, especially the way Brentford are. The ability is there, the fitness isn't so if he can have a decent pre-season then he might nail down a place and open Frank up to possibility of 4231.

Brighton game will provide more clues. I'm looking forward to seeing both teams in that one.

I'm still confused as to why people expected him to play CF? I thought Wissa played there in the last few games of last season (like he basically always did whenever Toney was out), and Schade can play there too

Mbeumo has now over 24% ownership, Wissa below 4%

I remember Mbeumo hitting the post in every game. I am happy to save money and one midfield spot. People may be jumping from Mbeumo early to Eze or any 6.5 Bri mid, so Wissa is much safer choice from TV point of view. 24% EO isn't anything to worry about either.

Apparently Frank said as much, that Wissa steps up for Toney.

Mbeumo is great too, whenever I've owned him he's hit the woodwork as much as score.

As with Brighton and Palace players these picks enable the more expensive players in your side.

So at the price they offer value.

Brentford play a 352 in the more difficult games. So there will be occasions where Mbeumo moves up front.

I wouldn't start Eze vs gunners, but if he can be rotated, he could be decent option. Brighton has nice start with their fixtures, but they turn sour pretty fast. So having 2 or more may become an issue. Mitoma could be 6.4 come gw4.

Tricky to call at this stage. Chilwell probably has the highest ceiling but I still need a bit more convincing on Chelsea. Maybe Shaw if Mount takes over all set pieces. I'm not that into City defenders but Stones could be the exception; not sure what's going on with Cancelo yet though

      1. Count of Monte Hristo
        • 13 Years

Yeah this is a tricky one, no easy choice to remove one of them. Stones the only City defender to consider based on his new role and the positions he is taking up.

Chilwell has a very high ceiling and some great fixtures in the opening 4-6 weeks.

If I have Onana does removing Shaw become straightforward? United can be solid under ETH and the double up appeals.

I wouldn't be too worried about Man Utd defensive coverage initially since only 2 of the first 5 look like CS to me. So I think it comes down to a straight up comparison in the terms I mentioned above & how likely you think Shaw is to pick up an attacking return or two

What are we expecting Barnes to cost? I’m hoping for 7.0 but expecting 7.5

Would wait and see how we set up with Barnes first as well. We've got decent competition for wide attacking positions and don't see anyone being a nailed down starter

Good info thanks, didn't watch but heard Trippier was in a 3. That Anderson position explains his output/involvment.

Don't know if you saw the video on the FPL's site of Bruno G wearing a bodycam but it was quite fun to watch.

Personally think Anderson is better further up the pitch than in midfield. He's played in a variety of positions in preseason and should get regular appearances off the bench this season.

Yeah, saw the Bruno camera. Was fun, if a bit disorientating! They probably found his best spell of the match. Him and Tonali didn't look great.

Villa played through Newcastle far too easily. Partially due to Villa pass and movement and partially due to the unfamiliar positioning and press of Newcastle players. Newcastle relied on balls over the top for main attacking threat, rather than the usual pass and go around the box and out wide.

In a 4-3-3, which I guess (hope) we'll revert to, Miggy should be first choice as RW, but there are options with Murphy or maybe Gordon or Anderson. Could be a lot of rotation and managing of minutes.

Too much on keepers and worrying to go without Salah. Here’s what I knocked up this morning:

      Onana - 4.0
      Gabriel - Ake - Estupinan - 4.0 - 4.0
      Saka - Salah - Bruno - Foden - Mitoma
      Haaland - Wissa - 4.5

Almost the same XV as my current draft except I have a 4.0 keeper and a 4.5 defender on the bench. Think that's the better use of funds.

      Good starting XI though

  21. Tonyawesome69

Pretty certain I won't be paying more than 4.5m on my main GK and definitely won't be going down the GK rotation route.

Probably between Johnstone and Flekken (assuming #1).

Both should have good potential for save points and bonus.

      A by a long way -
Pickford - save points or at least likely clean sheet - nice run of fixtures
Stones - will be really involved as the inverted full back/mid
Nkunu - might be a bit early but from gw3 you are laughing

In option B - I don't like Botman no point in getting Newcastle defender until about gw6

Never been under any stability with the merry-go-round managers at Chelsea. 12 goals in 42 for England at youth level including a world cup win. For context, Rashford never scored at youth level. I didn't say he had an amazing Premier record, but nonetheless, an interesting prospect in a decent side.

Rashford literally scored a hattrick for the U21s on his debut. He then started playing with the senior team when he was 18. Not sure what that has to do with anything?

Tuchel has slated CHO’s attitude before, remember when he subbed him on then off again?

I wonder if Poch might consider joining the trend of one of the full backs forming a back 3 while the other plays more advanced. We know James has played RCB in a 3 numerous times before so he’s not alien to it.

Would certainly make the Chilwell v James debates a heck of a lot easier!

Looked a bit of that in their game against Brighton. Chilwell bombed on when Chelsea in position and Gusto sat in like a RCB. When out of possession, it looked more like a back four.
