I'm 1.0 off Salah in most of my drafts, just can't seem to find the $ to make it work.

A 4-5-1 is the key to a good Salah draft.

Plus, I think it makes best use of the starting budget with virtually all the best value players being in defence and midfield.

I don't think this is necessarily true. 352 with Wissa is quite viable too

I've got a 'Plan B' 4-4-2 Salah squad, but it requires Wissa to start every game and that feels like a weak point to me. 4-5-1 looks a better fit, but overall the only drafts that look balanced are Salah-free.

I think mine is fairly balanced. No TAA (obviously) and not much of a bench, but at least I'm no longer starting Ahamada 🙂

I know this is a challenge, but can you tell me the best combination of MID/ATT for £12.5M (£12M if possible). I am on Foden and Vinicius, but worried about Foden now, love the rest of my team...

One needs to be good to go and score points, the other is fodder, but want a regular starter.

Told you it is a challenge...

OK, I can't knock that. Jesus is tried and trusted, if not injured should be a great call. I am not sure on Nakamba but if you say he is going to get minutes, then this could be a great first choice so far!

Have 3.0 itb anywhere you would upgrade from the start?

    Flek

    Henry, Nakamba, 4.0

Everyone always says this and I would agree other than there are no nailed city defenders so if you want to be certain that you can tap into those cleansheets he's really the only one I trust.

You're looking at it from the wrong angle. Ederson is in competition with other GKs, not City defenders. And GK scores are about much more than CS. He got 5 save points the whole of last season so he would have needed approx 21 CS to match the score Raya got with 11 CS

                • 11 Years
                3 years, 1 month ago

He is in competition with other keepers of course (I have 3.0 itb so money isn't an issue). He is also in competition with my defenders because I can only own 3 city players (who I want playing as much as possible) so if my third city is a defender who benched every second game or gametime is uncertain it's a waste of a city spot.

He can get 21cs. Last year was a down year for their defense. Save points are of course part of the game but I pick my keepers to get cs first. Please don't like premium keepers, I get that but considering his nailness, the team he plays for, I don't hate it as much as most.

Hmm ok the way I play I don't really have a quota for City players. I might be wrong on that but I'm pretty confident in my criteria for choosing a GK anyway

You do have a quota for city players because you can only have a max of 3 in your team so to maximize those slots you want playing players. Most will choose a 4.5 keepers which is totally fine but I don't have the same budget restrains that most have so I'm looking at alternative to players trying to find some differentials.

I mean I only have 1 City player in my current draft and that doesn't bother me. I gave up on thinking in terms of coverage so if, for example, I prefer Chilwell to Stones then I just go without City defence

This is a nice idea, though personally I've learnt not to pre-plan my GW2 transfer, as inevitably there'll be other moves to make. I'd say best to start with the team you want in GW2.

I'm currently on similar but have used the 3m to upgrade Flek to Onana and Stones to TAA and Nkunku to Watkins, highly unlikely I'll start with a Chelsea striker with their record and recent form.

I didn't think I would start with a Chelsea player gw1 either but I've been reading a bunch about Nkunku and like how he plays. If I get cold feet about him I could move him down to a fodder and upgrade Nakamba to almost anyone.

    Onana

Seems good to me. The only change I would make is Botman to a Brenford defender. Newcastles fixture for like the opening 5-6 gws are bad, would much rather have a brenford defender coming in if needed.

Agree re Botman, or even downgrade to a 4.0 who is expected to play. That is, unless you want to use that player for one specific GW.

No - I'm on my own here, but I regard 4.0 defenders as traps. Lots of scope for sideways transfers of 4.5 defenders.
My mids and forwards are all at the right "price points" for easy transfers too. I can always scale down a 5.5 or 5.0 defender if I need cash.

I'm back to the good old 343 too, but mostly because of Martinelli getting a lot of competition on his flank. Anderson is my fifth midfielder. Do you think Nakamba is a better option?

Naker will play regular for a steady 2 points. Anderson will mostly come off the bench. I'm on the Palace lad - Ahamada.

Any cinema buff here who can help me decide where to watch Oppenheimer?

If I watch with one friend, we can go to an arthouse cinema where I live in Utrecht for €11 (as I can go for free). But if it's anything like Tenet, I won't be able to understand any of the mumbly dialogue.

I can go to Amsterdam EYE to watch it on 70mm film (not IMAX), which will set us back €21.50, given a discount from my cinema subscription. I'll have to justify travel costs by making a day/night out of it - thereby making it even more expensive again.

Or I can go to Pathé Arena (IMAX), Amsterdam, for €31, though I understand that it is more of a LIEMAX situation as it's not full IMAX (i.e. single projector; cropped image). That said I've also read that it DOES have two laser projectors, but still not the full IMAX aspect ratio.

Or I can go anywhere else in NL. So, is LIEMAX going to be better than 70mm film? And why? What should I doooo? Also, it's time to start considering Trossard in FPL.

I went to the Amsterdam EYE to see 2001 Space Odyssey. Hugely enjoyable experience.

And I was living in Split, Croatia when Tenet came out, and saw it at an outdoor cinema. I got about half way through before deciding it was a terrible film. I wasn't mad keen on Inception either, though was a big fan of Interstellar (one of my top 3 films of the 2010s), and as I work in Nolan's alma mater, I'm a fan of his.

I say make a day of it and head out of Utrecht. And update us on what you make of the film.

Cheers Airmiles! I saw Memento the other week in a small cinema here. Hadn't seen it in over a decade, and thought it was better than I remembered. Unfortunately, I fell asleep watching Inception in the cinema, but only due to being very tired that day. That was entirely the wrong film to do that in, waking up and wondering what level I'm in!

I might choose EYE just because I'm saving some money that way, but I believe the image may be even more cropped than IMAX, so I'll do another google search when I can be bothered. Thanks again!

From what I gather, the general consensus is that both are sick notes. However, Chilwell typically does not get many small niggles, but more so long term injuries. James is prone to getting niggles and missing random games.

      1. I Member
        • 11 Years

This is his point though. When James misses random games you have his replacement Gusto ready to come in.

Probably because James hadn't featured in preseason until last night. If James stays fit and looks good for the rest of preseason I imagine there will be a much more even split between the two come GW1.

However if Chelsea end up being the real deal we might need to triple up on them given their fixtures from GW3 onwards. If that's the case we can't afford to waste a slot on Gusto as James cover.

I'm on James but I don't think there's much in it.

In both games we've played, one full back has been much higher than the other, but they haven't played together yet. I expect James to be slightly less offensive than Chilwell when they both play - but he will take a lot of set pieces.

Right now, I'd be on James because he probably has less competition, but could easily change depending on how they play against Fulham

Woah! Thanks for posting. This has thrown me as I took him out and changed formation. If he returns, I'll go 4-4-2.
I took him out because ... minutes.
This guy is saying he'll be great so long as he gets .... minutes.
His preseason play has all been without De Bruyne.
      Damn!

        Yeah

I keep flip flopping on the last 2 midfield picks but Foden and Rashford have been back in since early afternoon!

It's basically Foden or Nkunku for me.

He is improving every season, has Bernardo gone yet?

Hmm, restoring Foden and downgrading my 3rd forward to a 4.5 eaves me with a million spare. Happy to bank it, but if late news guarantees either Enciso or Joao Pedro start GW1, they're in.

His conclusion was more but still limited minutes. Its between him or Nkunku for me and I'm leaning towards Nkunku still because of minutes.

I'd say at present i'd be 95% sure he starts against Liverpool - he's been the most impressive player for us in pre season

Any reason you've gone Ramsdale Shaw over Onana Gabriel?

Well balanced that’s for sure, not a fan of no Trent or Salah but some nice differentials in there

Yep, it’s not ideal, but you can’t have everyone and their early fixtures make me think it’s worth the chance. I usually wc early anyway.

8 of his 12 goals/assists were after Dyche arrived and he loved him at Burnley too. Worth a shout at 5.5m and good fixtures.

    Thoughts on Rashford?

I have him in my draft as a "default" selection but he didnt look good in the last months.

Could go Son instead. I’ll have Bruno so I’m leaning towards having Son in addition to rather than Rashford

You could always get Bruno for 0.5m cheaper. I'm going both in the beginning.

Questions about his position have put me off for now. If Hojlund/Kolo Muani arrive, he becomes a bit of an expensive option vs. Bruno given the latter is on penalties. If not and he ends up at No.9, I think I'll look to upgrade Bruno to him or potentially shift Salah after GW2.

Don't agree with this. Rashford is more dangerous from the left than upfront.

So I think I might be happy with this, trying to build up enough resilience to prevent a GW2 Wildcard like the last two years lol.
    Verbruggen | Areola
    Stones | Chilwell | Estupiñan | Tarkowski | Baldock
    Rashford | Saka | Odegaard | Foden | Diaby
    Haaland | Jackson | Wissa

My only consideration is that the bench may end up too heavy

And no 1-transfer route to the 7.5+ forwards.

You could downgrade Ode and upgrade Wissa to Jesus to get that coveted 8.0m attacker
