Had to comment after the first line -
Championship Manager 01/02 system: 4-1-3-2 - a touch of genius there.
    Neale is dating himself though!

    Very happy with this…

    Onano
    Gabriel estu botman
    Salah saka mitoma mbuemo
    Haaland Jesus Darwin

    Areola Henry anderson beyer

Gonna punt on Darwin til gw3 then jump on nkunku if possible & plausible.

Been kind of tempted by that move (Darwin - Nkunku) also, but still struggling to figure out if it'll be Darwin or Jota up top (or Gakpo)

Who knows. My spidey senses are tingling though so I’m gonna go for it. I like to have one punt to start with & I think that’s a fairly safe one compared to say punting on a player new to the league.

I wanted to punt on Paquetá but I've read too many negative expectations from West Ham fans about this coming season. I actually like their fixtures for attackers but I've been put off going near them for now

Paqueta has been the one I wanted to punt on, but changed to Bowen now - think if they replace Rice they'll have a decent enough season

Bowen would be the better pick but only concern for us is that we’ve sold rice and not bought a single player yet all window meaning our midfield is currently Soucek and Downes which is awful

Hammers to me look uncomfortable behind the scenes. With Rice gone, they have a huge hole to fill and have made no purchases.

Won’t be much better with Gallagher and McTominay in there either. No striker either?

If you have Mctominay Ward Prowse & Paqueta as a midfield 3, with Bowen & Benrahma either side of Scamacca/Ings - thats not a dreadful front 6?

Having McTominay as your most defensive-minded midfielder is a recipe for disaster.

If West Ham buy McTominay, I could see him being a good differential. Moyes loves a target midfielder.

I think Bowen will be really good this year but there's a lot of competition at that mid-range midfielder price point and West Ham's fixtures kind of stink

      Of Saka, Jesus and Trossard/Martenelli.

Suspect Palace and Newcastle will be higher up.

Also, Burnley probably over egged and Liverpool are in a transition season.

Fulham and Forest likely lower down

Brentford would do v well for another top 10.

        Arsenal probably top 2 again.

Very close between Liverpool & Arsenal imo. My only concern with Arsenal is that the Havertz experiment falls flat (and I don't really rate Vieira yet either if they have to turn to him for left 8)

But with Olise out and Zaha gone, we had to play with Ayew and Schlupp as the winger and with JPM wanting to leave we only have Edouard. Easy to see where we need to strengthen

So we are expect 10-14th depending on whether we get anyone in.

Franca from Flamengo signed yesterday but just 19.

Defense and mifield is the strongest i can remember (Guiata is leaving to Spain) so SJ is nailed..

3 - Chelsea (one game per week)
      4 - United
5 - Liverpool (their D was pants last season and they still don’t have a #6)

  11. Wrong Captain Choice - Ag i…
    • 16 Years

I am still struggling on my last two/three picks - the rest of my team is fairly settled on a BB gw1 team
*** - small doubts but lots of other choices?
** - more doubts Saka safer?
    * - major doubts will he start?

    Pickford (Johnstone)
    -
    Martinez-Estupinan-Gabriel (Guehl-Stones)
    -
    Martinelli** - Foden*** - Fernandes-Mitoma-Eze
    -
    Jackson*-Haaland-Jesus

I keep changing Foden to Gross or thinking maybe Diaby/Mbeumo?
Also thinking of lessening the Jackson and Martinelli risks to Saka and Nkuku

I normally end up picking the wrong ones in these calls so maybe I should do the opposite of what I should think I do!

    1. Tanaka'd
      • 9 Years

Does Foden to Diaby allow Jackson and Martinelli to Nkunku and Saka? If so, I think I prefer those changes

        Yeah it does.
I really like the bench though, can't see myself changing that.

    2. Sterling Effort

Jackson will start for us, but think Nkunku with penalties is a better option.

Saka would be miles ahead of Martinelli for me, purely because of the lack of competition.

With those 2 being the case, I'd agree with switching Foden to Mbuemo/Diaby and upgrading the other 2

Fairly set on starting with a 343 and keeping the squad flexible, will have a couple of Liverpool players and price points to move on to bandwagons from GW3.

    Flekken
    Gabriel, Estupinan, Shaw
    Odegaard/Martinelli, Bruno, Jota/Rashford, Saka(vc)
    Joao Pedro, Gakpo/Hojlund*, Haaland(C)

    Strakosha, Stones, MacAllister, Kabore

A few potential changes depending on the Hojlund signing, but if he's ready to start then he'll be in my 11.

I'm settled on Salah, Saka, Eze and Foden.

    Final midfield slot for...

    Rashford
    Bruno
    Ødegaard
    Mbeumo

Who's the best prospect for the first 6 or so games?

            Fair

2 weeks to turn it around and 2 more friendlies.

Teams will need 3 or 4 proper games to fet going.

We looked decent in the first half when all of the second-stringers played, but when the first team came out we quickly reverted back to just hoofing it up to Rashford. Bringing in Mount makes me think Ten Hag has given up trying to implement possessive football as he originally tried at the start of last season, and with our only real striking option being an unproven 20-year-old, I fear we'll struggle for goals again - Arsenal scored 30 more than us last season ffs.

Yeah I think if Havertz is struggling initially there will far more penetration down Saka/Øde's flank. Wondering about switching Martinelli to Øde myself. Might just wait & see with Man Utd; getting strong underprepared vibes. And kind of going off Brentford a bit after the laat friendly

I like the idea of doubling up on Brighton midfielders to attack the Luton fixture, but I am wondering if I would be better off minimising risk and picking Mbeumo instead of March? I usually don't question my gut on these things, but I'm a little wary off the back of a poor season!

    Onana

    Stones - Gabriel - Estupiñan

    Rashford - Bruno - Saka - Mitoma - March

    Haaland - Jesus

Subs: Hennessy - Chilwell - Udogie - Woodrow

      Yes, probably.

RDZ treating March with kid gloves because of last season injury by accounts.

Mbeumo on pens looks a great pick.

Game week 1 can also see a new team bounce with the opening fixture, if they've kept the promotion team spirit in the core of the squad.

Structure looks good only reason I did not pick March was because he is coming back from injury.
But like you I would trust Brighton more attacking wise, than defence. They bomb forwards like lunatics.

March is obviously a good long term pick.
I like the rest of it good structure and balance - you have Chilwell ready for g3 or a decent first sub.

Cheers! I expect Luton to struggle, and their away match at Brighton could be a rude awakening for them. I'll wait for updates on March's situation in the buildup to GW1 and maybe consider replacing March with Mbeumo once Brighton's fixtures start to worsen.

    Man United Pre Season

The attack lacks recognised patterns of play. They are relying on random goals.

Club have now signed a No9 and it's going to take time for the attack to function properly. Pre season games have almost been a waste for the attacking players.

Midfield is disjointed and Mount is getting in Brunos way and is not staying back enough to help the DM.

The Mount issues have made it easier for teams to attack, break through Midfield and conceded goals.

The team has not adjusted to having Onana and is playing more like last season.

Sancho still lacks the discipline to track back to Midfield and press.

The main United FPL options have not played well.

I agree, and I think they'll need a season to fully integrate Hojlund. I see them finishing outside the Top 4. I've already removed Bruno, and I'm not 100% convinced on Rashford although I'll most probably start him and see how it goes.
I can see Onana picking up plenty baps and at 5.0m there are plenty sideways and 4.5 options if he fails to deliver.

There's penalty said about the project/philosophy/system but ultimately football is a simple game at heart and good players should find a way pretty quickly, if they click!

Mount may play on the right to sort that issue out. He has a bit i think.

Hojlund though. I think the comparisons with Haaland are daft. His first season might be halfway between Darwin last year and Jesus - plenty minutes, unimpressive conversion stats.

Don't disagree with a lot of this but since he signed Bruno has proven to deliver regular points, even in poor sides.

All the time he's on penalties, especially with their home fixtures, I'd be amazed if he didn't score big points

      1. The Mandalorian

Bruno got 3 FPL returns in the first 17 weeks last season so the data suggests he didn't provide regular points last season.

Brunos penalties have massively dried up since United changed managers and stopped playing counter attacking football through Rashford.

Did he actually? Hugely surprised by that, he did end with 176 points though, which is solid for an 8.5m midfielder.

I'd be a bit worried about starting without one of the Utd players with those first 3 home games.

I was all set on Rashford in my earlier draft, but noticed he was not featuring preseason.
For the three Man United options (if you were that way inclined) double United defence and one midfielder looks great for gw1 instead.
The only problem is would need to transfer/rotate at least one defender out because Man United have Spurs gw2 and Arsenal gw4.

Don't understand all this love for John Stones. Ok, he may play more in midfield now but for his price range you would want someone who is more likely to get attacking returns (someone like Chilwell or Shaw). Plus City's defense hasn't been that great lately, so clean sheets may be few and far between.

He clocked the same amount of xG (0.5) before New Year's as he did the rest of the season. In fact, he didn't register a single shot in 2023 until mid-April. He didn't create a single chance from November-onwards.

Shaw spent a lot of time playing CB which hampered his attacking output and Chilwell missed a lot of the season through injury. Coupled with the fact Stones himself is fairly injury-prone and will miss a lot of minutes through rotation, along with City's lack of clean-sheets (Stones only got 5 last season) I think OP is right to question him as an asset.
