The 2023/24 UEFA Champions League (UCL) continues on Tuesday – which means it’s also time for the competition’s official Fantasy game.

With plenty of UCL Fantasy articles coming throughout the season, our in-house expert FPL Reactions picks out the most appealing assets for those activating a chip in Matchday 2. Historically, this is a popular time for managers to use Wildcard or Limitless.

If you’re new to the game or need reminding of the rules, check out our ‘how to play’ guide below.

There’s also a fixture ticker put together by Louis – and don’t forget to sign up to our mini-league to win prizes!

The Wildcard is exactly the same as its FPL namesake, where unlimited squad surgery can occur at no cost. Whereas Limitless is a one-week chip like Free Hit but, this time, without any budget restrictions.

These team selections were originally featured on our sister site, Fantasy Football Community, where there is lots of UCL Fantasy content every Matchday, from budget picks to differentials.

UCL FANTASY MATCHDAY 2: BEST WILDCARD TEAM

GOALKEEPERS

  • Sven Ulreich (€4.5m) – Bayern have a fantastic run of fixtures ahead so investing in their defensive assets could be extremely rewarding. The cheapest way into the backline is Sven Ulreich, who has been filling in for Manuel Neuer during his long-term injury.
  • Dmytro Riznyk (€4.0m) – Although his schedule may look tough, he helps to enable the rest of the squad with his price tag. He also covers the days that Ulreich does not play.

DEFENDERS

  • Giovanni Di Lorenzo (€5.5m) – The Italian full-back could be considered one of the best defensive assets in the game this season at his price. He has also managed four goal contributions in all competitions for Napoli so far this season.
  • Federico Dimarco (€5.5m) – Inter have a great group overall and also bagged eight clean sheets in their brilliant 2022/23 campaign. They play with a wing-back system, which allows Dimarco into dangerous areas of the pitch.
  • Denzel Dumfries (€5.5m) – Inter’s wing-back system is too good to ignore and Dumfries has been offensively excellent so far this season. The Dutchman has already banked three goals and four assists for the Italian side this campaign.
  • Jules Kounde (€5.0m) – Barcelona maintained one of the best defensive records in Europe last season so investing in their backline could be a great move. The cheapest way in is via centra-back Kounde, who could be excellent value for money.
  • Alexander Bah (€5.0m) – Things may have started sour for Benfica but there is little doubt that they will improve. They have a great group and Bah is one of their most attacking defensive assets from full-back.

MIDFIELDERS

  • Jude Bellingham (€7.5m) – Real Madrid also have a good group, so it is wise to stick with at least one of their attackers. The most reliable offensive asset is Jude Bellingham, who has managed a huge eight goals and three assists in all competitions this season.
  • Leroy Sane (€9.0m) – Investing in one of the most efficient attacks in the competition is absolutely essential moving forward. Not only has Sane picked up the Player of the Month award for his club but he has also racked up five goals in six Bundesliga matches so far.
  • Martin Odegaard (€9.0m) – Arsenal are free-scoring at the moment, both domestically and in Europe. After their dominating 4-0 win against PSV in Matchday 1, their assets should be considered anew. One of the safest ways in in terms of minutes is the Norwegian, who has collected four goals and one assist in all competitions.
  • Rodri (€6.5m) – Finding another safe route into the current holders’ attack is trickier but Rodri is the most promising. Not only does he provide ball recoveries and Player of the Match awards but he has already managed three goals and an assist this campaign.
  • Marcus Thuram (€6.5m) – One of the cheapest ways into the Inter attack is with Thuram. He effectively plays in a forward role so is ‘out of position’. Thuram has banked two goals and four assists already this season.

FORWARDS

  • Erling Haaland (€11.5m) – Manchester City regularly sustain some of the best attacking numbers in Europe every season so investing in their main man and penalty-taker will be absolutely essential moving forward.
  • Harry Kane (€10.0m) – Bayern have the fixtures to bag plenty of goals, so there is every reason to go for their attacking focal point. Not only does Kane take his side’s penalties but he has netted eight goals and registered three assists in his last six Bundesliga matches.
  • Takefusa Kubo (€5.0m) – Real Sociedad are in great scoring form and proved they can match the strongest team in their group, Inter, in Matchday 1. One of the cheapest playing forwards in the game is Kubo, who has scored in each of his last two matches.

UCL FANTASY MATCHDAY 2: BEST LIMITLESS TEAM

GOALKEEPERS

  • Sven Ulreich ($4.5m) – Bayern come up against a Copenhagen side who scored just once in the entire 2022/23 campaign. The German side also proved their defensive stability last season, banking five clean sheets in six group stage matches despite coming up against Inter and Barcelona.
  • Ederson ($6.0m) – Manchester City are maintaining some of the best defensive data in the Premier League this season. They may come up against a strong Leipzig next but the current holders have the potential strength to keep a clean sheet against any team in world football on their day.

DEFENDERS

  • Giovanni Di Lorenzo ($5.5m) – Matchday 2 could be a week lacking in clean sheets. Because of this, and the fact that he has bagged four attacking returns already this season, Di Lorenzo still has a reasonable chance of points even against Real Madrid, who are very dependent on Jude Bellingham for goals.
  • Achraf Hakimi ($6.0m) – PSG got their 2023/24 UCL campaign off to a strong start with a 2-0 win over Dortmund. Amongst the success stories was wing-back Hakimi. The Moroccan gets into some of the most dangerous positions on the pitch and has already scored three goals this season.
  • Joao Cancelo ($6.0m) – The Portuguese hugely impressed during his time at champions Manchester City and he has transferred his strong attacking output into a free-scoring Barcelona side, scoring two goals and creating one assist already.
  • Federico Dimarco ($5.5m) and Denzel Dumfries ($5.5m) – Two of the world’s most dangerous wing-backs play for the same club, Inter. The Italian side are very reliant on their wing-backs offensively. That can be reinforced by the fact that they have accumulated 11 attacking returns between them this season for club and country.

MIDFIELDERS

  • Jude Bellingham ($7.5m) – Real Madrid will always be a team to fear due to the knack they have for reaching the competition’s latter stages. The Spanish side have been looking to Bellingham for the bulk of their goals this season. The English international has racked up eight goals and two assists since joining.
  • Leroy Sane ($9.0m) – Bayern often boast one of the highest scoring averages in Europe. Because of this and the fact they face Copenhagen this week, heavy investment is key. Their player of the month is Sane, who has netted seven times for club and country this season.
  • Phil Foden ($8.0m) – Similar to Bayern, Manchester City also sustain one of the highest scoring averages in Europe. They next face Leipzig, who looked defensively ropey in Matchday 1. Their standout midfielder option is Foden, who has collected five returns in his matches already and looks like a mainstay in the holders’ starting XI.
  • Bruno Fernandes ($9.5m) – It could be a great week to invest in a Manchester United asset. The Reds play at home against a Galatasaray side who conceded two goals to Copenhagen in Matchday 1. Bruno Fernandes maintains some fantastic distribution stats and takes his side’s penalties.
  • Martin Odegaard ($9.0m) – Arsenal face Lens this week, and the French side have started their new campaign torridly. The English side, by contrast, seem to be firing on all cylinders. The Norwegian is instrumental for Arsenal and also banked 15 points in the first round for his goal, assist and Player of the Match award.

FORWARDS

  • Erling Haaland ($11.5m) – The Norwegian has been one of the most relentless strikers in world football for some time. In fact, in the 11 matches he has played so far, he has scored eight goals and created two assists. He is also a very strong captaincy option for Matchday 2.
  • Harry Kane ($10.0m) – Investing into the focal point and penalty taker of the Bayern attack is essential this week. Since joining the German side, Kane has racked up eight goals and four assists, highlighting himself as one of the most in-form attackers in Europe.
  • Gabriel Jesus ($8.5m) – Finding another route into the in-form Arsenal attack could be a wise move. Gabriel Jesus leads his offensive line after returning from injury and even scored in Matchday 1 against PSV. He could have huge differential potential this week.

Rashford right up there on goals imminent. Makes sense to give him one more week. Then maybe get Bowen in or Darwin/Watkins.

So I need to move Kaminski on I think. Martinez a good shout? Sitting third on RMT keepers. Or go cheap with Areola?

    Kaminski
    Estupinian Schar Udogie
    Son(c) Rashford Bruno Saka Odegaard
    Haaland Alvarez

    Turner Archer Bell Beyer

    1FT, £0.0 ITB, any changes you'd make?

    Areola - Turner
    Trppier - Cash - Botman - Udogie - Kabore
    Salah - Son - Maddison - Diaby - JWP
    Haaland - Alvarez - Archer

100% hold. 2 FT will be valuable. Even if Diaby & Botman are out, Archer is playable vs. FUL this week.

I agree, just saying even in the - worst- case you still have a playable attacker vs. FUL. I plan to start Diaby unless I hear anything that would persuade me otherwise.

    Onana
    Gvardiol Estupinan Cash
    Maddison Son Salah Mbuemo Eze
    Haaland Alvarez

    Turner Archer Botman* Baldock*

    A) Gvardiol & Mbuemo > Porro & Diaby (-4)
    B) Wildcard
    C) Something else

On WC. Very very torn between the following front 6. It essentially comes down to Saka vs Salah.

    Thoughts?

    (1)
    Son Maddison JWP *Salah*
    Haaland *Alvarez*

    OR

    (2)
    Son Maddison JWP *Saka*
    Haaland *Watkins* *Darwin*

Option (2) feels more balanced to me, more flexibility to move around and covering more bases, but I know Salah can really hurt me over the next 7 GWs.

You clearly want double Spurs midfield. Salah still the go to pick from LFC.

I think having all three of Saka, Son and Salah will be like the water carriers for any team. 3 of the most reliable assets when it comes to fitness and regular returns. .

I dont necessarily want double spurs.
But dropping Maddison does not enable me to get Saka.

I could of course drop Son to Saka but that feels like another risk.

I do agree with you though. Struggling to see where else I compromise unless i drop trippier

Does Swapping Darwin to Alvarez, JWP to Neto and Maddison to Mitoma/Diaby while keeping Watkins and Salah work? Because that seems like the best of both worlds

Another option is dropping *Trippier* to *Anderson*, giving this front 6:

      Son Salah Saka JWP
      Haaland Watkins

      Looks quite tasty actually…
But means im playing this back 4 every week:

Having a terrible start. Ranked 7m compared to the 50k I was at this time last year

    2FT with 1.3itb

    Flekken
    Est Botman Udogie Gusto Anderson
    Mbuemo Rashford Saka Madders Doku
    Haaland Alvarez Hojlund

I really don’t mind getting rid of Haaland for the next few weeks. Haaland Mbuemo and Doku out leaves me with 28.6m quite a few things I can do with that

    Any help appreciated!

With two FTs, I'd get rid of united players. I'd bring in Watkins and one of the good Mid options like Diaby. Botman and Gusto are a problem though. Maybe take a hit and if enough funds get Trip

Any points folks agree/disagree or have missed with WC 8 vs WC 10 comparison?

        - Arsenal good fixtures from GW10
        - More Spurs assets on WC8 compared to WC10
        - Brighton on WC10, not on WC8
        - West Ham have good fixtures from GW10
        - Villa have good fixtures from GW8
        - More info on Liverpool attackers and better prediction on xMins in GW10 after IB.

Agree and why I am holding WC until 10. But the big downside is loss of team value in waiting given way prices have been going up and down. That is one of main reasons people going in 8 as could not afford team by 10

That is the one benefit of those who hit their WC before GW8. Their SV did not take a pounding.

Yeah for my team, I can go heavy on Spurs with FTs and remove on WC10.

Price changes is certainly a factor for folks on WC8 but it shouldn't be one of the main reasons imo. If your team needs the overhaul then pull the trigger on WC.

SV a massive issue for many at this point who want to fit Mo and Haaland.

That is why many re going no Haaland to get Mo for the fixture run. I think it is going to backfire to go without Haaland and those who have both him and Salah will have less damage control to deal with and be in the driving seat.

What's stopping people from WC in 8 and then 2 FTs in GW10?

I think the core of the setup is about the same - heavy Villa and Spurs. I'm looking ahead and for me it looks as simple as roll FT in 9 and then buy Estupinan and Mitoma in 10.

I got in Porro for Estupinan. The horror show of their defence, Estupinan being pulled early for Lamptey, Europe and IB's does not bode well for Estupinan. Any team can rip them at the back.

Folks that already have Spurs and Villa players, maybe not 3 assets from each team but enough, without the need to WC8

Yep. And with Spurs assets, I can see maybe one making way for Mitoma, Saka or Estu, but people on GW10 wc will certainly not be going 0 Spurs.

I'm on a WC now and nothing hard in going for Arsenal assets with 2FTs for GW10. About Brighton, you will be getting their mids instead of Salah, Son, Arsenal mids or Diaby having Luton GW10, can't see it really...similar case with WH, while I'm already getting AV in to target this GW10, may change after it. Literally, imo, you don't have that many mid and fwd spots to include all the picks that you may consider as good from GW10.

Now do I sacrifice one off my midfield and bring Trent in, or do I keep as is? So confused

I’m WC now. I decided to try without Saka, with 3 strong forwards & my favourite defenders. Pls, any suggestions?

        Sanchez (Areola)
Trippier, Pedro Porro, Cash (Andersen, Kaboré)
Son, Maddison, Bowen, Diaby (Neto/or Gordon)
        Haaland, Alvarez, Watkins

        £0.1 ITB. Thank you.

            No money :/

            Only in this case:
            Bowen > JWP
            or
            Porro > Reguillon

Not if you can get more points from a potentially better 11 and cheaper playing subs that you'll rarely need. A few quid in the bank could save a few transfers too later too.

I like this; pretty similar to what I would work towards if I don't get Salah (I'm not on WC but have many of these already), although I have a few extra players (Maddison over Bowen, Darwin over Watkins) whose fitness is borderline enough to warrant the strong front 8. I also think we might be edging into the stage of the season now where this structure could pay off due to injuries and suspensions

How would you get Salah though? Even if you do Watkins - Archer, you still have to make another significant sacrifice (like Trippier) to enable Diaz - Salah

Had more thoughts on my WC.

        It boils down to:
Trippier, Maddison, Avarez VS Anderson, Saka, Watkins

        (Team 1)
        Areola Turner
        Cash Udogie Taylor Burn *Trippier*
Son *Maddison* Salah JWP Douglas Luiz
        Haaland *Alvarez* Archer

        (Team 2)
        Areola Turner
        Cash Udogie Taylor Burn *Anderson*
Son *Saka* Salah JWP Douglas Luiz
        Haaland *Watkins* Archer

Maddison & Watkins as their fixtures over the next few games are better.

In doubt whether I should hit the WC button:

        Pickford (Turner)
        Estupinan, Cash, Udogie (Botman, Kabore)
        Salah, Saka, Son, Diaby, Mbeumo
        Haaland, Alvarez (Osula)

Already did Rashford > Son with 1FT. Would probably change Pickford, Estupinan, Botman, Saka, Mbeumo and Alvarez on WC but could also just as easily wait a few more weeks

personally I don't think the fact that lots of people are chatting about doing a wildcard is a good reason to do one yourself.

You'll likely get a better edge in later weeks.

November for example and the second international break has some of the spicier World Cup qualifying games. I think Brazil play Argentina then for example so that could effect lots of FPL players.

        Leno - Areola
        Cash - Porro - Burn - Estu - Baldock
        Diaby - Maddi - Salah - Saka - Bruno
        Archer - Morris - Haaland

WC worthy? I don't really want to but no Son scares + Morris, Bruno aren't ideal (although I kind of want to keep Bruno in case Utd improve).

Can't decide if Trippier should be included and also not sure if I want to keep Haaland but kinda like this WC draft:

        Areola
        Porro/Cash/Burn
        Salah/Son/Maddison/Diaby
        Haaland/Watkins/Alvarez

          Drop Alvarez, Burn > Tripper, 4.5 > Neto/Gordon

Looks fine without Trippier to me. Would rather have the funds on Alvarez than any of the budget options that you'd go with to enable Tripps
