So game’s that don’t finish can stand?

Where it is to the advantage of the Competition, the Management Committee shall also be
empowered to order the score at the time of an abandonment to stand. Providing gate
money is taken and retained the visiting Club shall receive their actual standard class rail
or bus fares or the equivalent for [ ] persons, or car allowance at [ ] p per mile for
transporting [ ] persons, or hire charge of a coach (receipt to be submitted). The residue (if
any) to be equally divided between the two Clubs after deducting the cost of advertising,
printing, posting, police and Match Officials charges. The home Club shall take the whole
of the proceeds of the second Competition Match.

It was an FA Cup tie between Man City and Luton back in 1961, abandoned with 21 minutes to go.
The match had to be replayed from the start and City lost 1-3.

It's not an extra game, it's 30mins, it was non-televised in the UK so there isn't an issue there.

Only issue is policing if it's not behind closed doors.

            • 7 Years
            2 years, 2 months ago

Because they're still cocking about with the content, as evidenced by the Solanke points coming, going, changing etc.

You seriously believe that they are going to organise it all, clear with police and all that stuff, make players play again the day after playing (and emotionally distraught), do something they've never done before, countless other things? It's a ridiculous idea to even entertain.

            1. Bartowski
              • 15 Years
              2 years, 2 months ago

Fail to see how them cocking about would lead to the game showing for tmw. Anyway we are just trying to deduce from the available info what they're up to and with regards to the game being listed for tmw and only bonus pts having been removed that currently points to the last half hour being played tmw.

I think they'd probably just play it behind closed doors. As other people have pointed out this is quite usual when similar has happened in other leagues.

Just out of curiosity, and I don't want to cause any offence, but can you enlighten me.

Why was the game abandoned in the first place? Because the players were emotionally affected? Valid point.

He collapsed and had a cardiac arrest.

But what about the players who suffer horrific injuries like serious head injuries or broken bones for example that protrude through the skin. Seeing those things happen to your mate is equally as upsetting, but those games don't normally get abandoned. Right?

There has also been many occasions where a fan in the stand had a heart attack or even died and the game was not abandoned.

I'd rather if people didn't attack me and say I am insensitive, but its a valid question imo. People with a better memory than me may be able to pull up some examples to prove my point. Some of which were career ending.

It’s an interesting point because they didn’t abandon the play off final

However I think maybe the Luton manager saw it and rushed on the pitch this time and was emotionally impacted more from seeing the fall in front of him. Was in tears at the end so likely he was the one who decided not to go ahead

ok thanks for that insight, I didn't see it. Curious how the decision was actually made to abandon that game, or who made it. Not saying its wrong, but they don't do it for other serious injuries.

Yea that's very valid. But we ourselves got news he was talking and ok before they decided to call it off. The medical team sent out an update to that effect. It was the abandoned like 15 mins later.

When Eriksen had a heart attack at the World Cup the game continued (presumably due to scheduling issues) but Denmark seemed to be emotionally affected and ended up losing to Finland despite having being the much better team before the incident (I say that as a half Finn).

If they knew he was okay I did find it odd, especially given that it happened before in the playoffs and that game carried on.

I guess if there was some doubt about it or we're not being told the full story then after so long you have to make the call to abandon. It feels like this was maybe more serious (they already admitted a cardiac arrest) and from other reports (unconfirmed) something else might have happened under the stands.

Well I think it's because horrific physical injuries can be a consequence of the game that all players sign up for (same as boxers sign up for potential brain damage after they hang up their gloves).

Irregularities of the heart are atypical for the game and probably hit home harder..

Cardiac arrest is different imo. It’s essentially seeing someone stop living. Although seeing a career ending injury of course can be very difficult as well, I think this on a different end of the spectrum.

Cardiac events have a high probability of death and- this is just my opinion- athletes are less accustomed to them than traumatic injuries. So, yes, it emotionally affects everyone more.

The game could've continued after a brief period of stoppage but maybe the situation wasn't resolved so..

The only reason he's not dead right now is because matches are surrounded by doctors and proper equipment to deal with situation like this. If it were in any other situation in life.... More than 90% of cardiac arrests result in death, and a large % of the 10% remaining live but forever with life altering permanent injury

If someone, anyone, collapses after suffering a heart attack in any workplace it is a profoundly upsetting experience for those who witness it. That said, I could list you 50 professions off the top of my head whereby packing up and going home simply wouldn't be an option. They should have played the final 30 minutes.

Absolutely fair play I like the way you have worded your point. Very well made.

I just think the medical issue transcends what the other issues you’ve mentioned are.

From a pure FPL point of view I’ll take my solanke 9 points and run.

If there’s a replay. Even even better

But from a human point of view, couldn’t give a toss about league points or FPL points.

All attention to player, teams, people affected, it isn’t normal and agree with action taken

I feel like the PL officials maybe winged this decision. It wasn't necessarily the wrong one, but I suspect questions will be asked tomorrow if not already, internally, as to how that decision was made.

TV broadcasters have a lot of power, and there is a lot of money involved.

There is difference between possibly career ending injury and possibly life ending injury.

I don't remember now what happened when Raul broke his skull. Didn't they continue the game despite of that? It was life threatening situation for what I remember.

I think recently there was a case where a fan needed CPR in the stands and the game was abandoned. I understand that fan later died despite the best efforts of the paramedics. Equally I think when Muamba had his cardiac arrest they abandoned the game. TBH, I think that call should be made by the match officials how they see fit - comparisons and precedents don't help in these circumstances. And I'd extend that to the examples of horrifically broken bones that you give in your post, but I can see a difference between injuries that are terrible and career ending, but where there is not thought to be any real risk that they are also at that point life-ending. Thankfully this happens so rarely I would be happy for the match officials to make the call and that call to be final - it feels invidious to even expect them to assess how likely they think the player is to lose their life; are the rest of the players and officials in a fit state to play on? If not, then it gets abandoned.

good point tbh, it is very situational and one answer does not fit all. They are also trusted officials.

They will just need to justify their decision in a report or whatever it is.

I think it's fine to ask this question as it's thankfully such an unusual situation. From what I've read/heard they abandoned the match due to players from both sides not being in a state of mind to continue and the match staff not feeling able to carry on managing the game in the circumstances.

Game being "scheduled" for tomorrow in fpl means that fpl towers are buying time atm. PL probably decides tomorrow what to do and fpl towers can then act accordingly. That's my judgement of the situation.

I've experienced an immediate family member recovering from cardiac arrest and it's actually incredible that Lockyer, Eriksen and others have got themselves back to the state of elite football.

Depending on the severity the amount of tablets they must be on really messes with you and to be able to get back to that level is really remarkable.

Removing the BAPS keeps the game in a holding pattern. Keeping the BAPS probably means the points are locked in tonight and given that FPL are waiting for the PL to make a decision they probably decided to put the game in a holding pattern. Wouldn't surprise me if the 6 are removed tomorrow if the whole game gets moved to another GW.

The reason the bonus points are not showing is clearly because the game is not showing as having ended/been confirmed.

As a Solanke owner, the most likely outcome is that it gets rescheduled, perhaps announced tomorrow, and then the points are removed.

    Sadly.

    But

    Most likely.

IMO keeping the points but not adding the Baps makes me think that they will continue the game from the 65th min midweek and baps will change due to that so cant add them as they arent final

They don't do that in this country apparently. It's not part of the rules. They do it in Spain though

There’s gotta be some reason for it, I’m surprised FPL Towers haven’t released a statement about it to explain the full reason no bonus point s have been added

      1. Ask Yourself
        • 9 Years

I think the reason for it is they have no idea what will happen so this is the best option until they know what’s happening with the fixture

Maybe FPL are using the same tactic I do. When you have bad news to deliver, deliver it 5 mins before you finish for the day lol.

        Deal with the fallout later.

My thought process is the game has not completed yet, it maybe replayed this GW or declared complete before the next deadline, so no bonus added in the game at this point would fit with how it is normally done.

*to clarify, a full replay (all points get reset) or a the final 30 or so minutes get played.

I thought the Premier League committed to a 6-week notice period when changing the fixture date, to allow for supporters to get tickets, for police and transport links to be organised, and for broadcaster selections

I'd normally ask by now how many points are you on and how many have you got left. But it kind of seems fruitless. I'll go anyway:

18 points after a -8. (16 if Senesi is ruled out, no sub. He mistakenly has 2 at the moment should actually be 1, the game didn't make 60).

    7 left.

      50 (-4) with Salah (C) & Tsimikas to play.

      Did Mbeumo/James ➡ Richarlison/Porro (-4) this week so I could field 11 players. 13pt swing!

I care. Its a barometer for how well people here are doing. These are seasoned players, what score they have, what players they have etc, will give a very informed opinion of what the best players have got, and where you stand in comparison to that.

Livefpl wont really tell you this.
