Last Man Standing GW23 (376 teams)

    Safety score = 60
Top score = Ben Tinker with 109

41 teams to be removed, 335 teams through to GW24

A small piece of advice for people looking to bring in Darwin:

The only thing you want Darwin for is to write a book on evolution. Nothing else. Not even a DGW.

Early transfer thoughts please? Thinking Jota is close to essential for next 2.

    A. Saka > Jota
    B. Solanke > Darwin
    C. Lascelles > Doughty
    D. Save

    Dubravka
    TAA Porro Gabriel
    KDB Saka Foden Palmer
    Haaland Watkins Solanke

Areola Konsa Lascelles Anderson 1 FT 0.8 ITB

  4. SKENG

    Dubravka
    Trippier Porro Estupinan
    KDB Foden Richarlison Saka Palmer
    Haaland Watkins

Archer Konsa Branthwaite - 1 FT, 1.0M ITB

Not really sure if I should save FT here or not. Saka to Jota could be a shout?

Tough - leaves you with 3 attackers who then blank in 26 plus Saka still returning consistently

Good point in the article about Palmer if he gets 2 blanks .

With Foden, KDB and Saka as my other midfielders (plus Garnacho as perma-bench) losing Palmer seems a good route to Jota - means losing Trent but would leave me 1FT from being able to field 11 in GW26 if I did Alvarez, Palmer & Trent to Haaland, Jota & Van Hecke

AHH yeah hadn't thought about that. Could always do the Jota part of the move next week, although taking a hit to bring him in loses the benefit if you aren't getting Burnley on top of the double

Both Palace fan (me included) and Chelsea fans are calling this the P45 derby.

Hodgson gone already, cannot find a replacement, once we hear the news that Olise was out for 2 months, and the medical team did not state he could play for 45 minutes.

We just cant find a manager who want the job until then end of the season lol

We were hoping that Cooper would want to prove himself and if he does well be offered an extension, if he does well, as he still has to prove himself as the top flight manager.

Or Julen Lopetegui if he fanies are 5 month role.

But the fact is the deal to bring in Paulo Fonseca from Lille at the end of the season is so strong (possibly agreed), that no one is interested, and that was the reason to give Roy one more season in the first place. Paulo Fonseca wont leave know anyway

Possibly leaves you short going into 26 - you'd have at least 4 blanks (plus likely at least one or two more from Chelsea or Spurs) so as long as you are happy with where you are for that then it looks solid

FH29 will offer up some more fixtures I'm sure and if loads are blanking or hitting you could get a better net difference than a FH26.

Like this week has shown, a fairly high score in a high scoring week can still be detrimental to overall rank.

In this sense, the week to week nature of the game is important.

I'm currently on (and expecting after tomorrow to still be on) 1 player for BGW29 so I very well will likely need to FH then. I like keeping it for the later doubles when I can but it feels like this'll be a year where I can't get away with it

Yes, if the DGW 28 happens (announced before GW25), i think i will go for an Adebayo/Jota/Darwin move, depending on whether Chelsea or Villa play.

I am pretty sure Forest and Luton will play in GW29, but Man Utd can lose to anyone

    3. The Mentaculus

I might be coming at this from a slightly different angle to most (?), off the back of WC27, but I think I'd rather set a 'balanced' team for the long-haul rather than skew the WC to ensure I have 11 starters in 29. Best case scenrio I could end up with 3x Spurs, maybe Leno if I stick, Doughty & Adebayo as 8th attacker, and Toney (but if BOU get DGW28 I'd likely start with Solanke on WC then move to Toney in 29). Probably no Villa/Arsenal/Chelsea. So I think there'd still be decent upside to FHing into double Arsenal attack + Nkunku/Palmer, or Kudus/Watkins/Bailey plus a few extra to fill out the 11. But will see how the cup results pan out - Bournemouth losing might enable me to save FH for 34.

Yes i am really hoping for a FH34 if i can.

Trying to do a BB before that WC though, bit tricky with Turner in goal, but with Raya blanking in 28 i may go for the Luton keeper or Neto, but also have Eze, and he pulls his hamstring again, there'd be chaos in Sarf London lol

Good plan imo. I BBed this week since I've been carrying a really strong bench through Dec/Jan and this seemed the best set of SGW fixtures for it. Couple of disasters in there as usual (Estupinan, Olise) but hit 100 (-4) so pretty happy with it

Triple Captain GW25 discussion starts here:

    The Obvious One: Haaland
The Gamble One: Foden or Alvarez
The Consistent One: KDB - will likely Assist any of the above 3 scoring and might score himself.
The Differential: Salah - can you afford to get him back in, makes him a differential in most active teams I reckon (not checked stats)
    The Defender: TAA
The Left Fielder: Toney - can you even fit him in with so many Forwards vying for attention - just owning is enough of a differential

    Honourable mentions: Jota & Darwin

    1. Nate(U)dog(ie)

Won't be using TC myself. Feel like all City assets (Haaland included) are prone to getting a rest with Haaland and KDB having just returned from layoffs and a full squad available, and Liverpool have the league cup final a few days after the Luton game

Good breakdown of the options. I always seem to mess up the triple captain, (hello Andy Carroll), so those fixtures for city seem as good as it is going to get. I think it has to be Haaland, even with reduced minutes he usually starts and doesn't need much time to score/assist plus on pens.
Tempted by kdb but going with erling on this one.

I was considering TAA but that looks a bit sketchy now that he's more or less in the same fitness bracket as Haaland & co. Will think about Jota maybe but may end up saving it for later

Is Harry Maguire worth putting in? Always after cheaper defenders (especially with a view to getting Salah back in in a few weeks) and with Martinez out Maguire could be a good shout.

Anyone looking at a GW25 FH?

Not even mentioned in the article but could be a good way to get the “best” DGWers without negatively impacting 26 and onwards.

For instance I have no Liverpool, it’s hard to know who to pick with Salah uncertainty & they don’t look great for 26 and beyond.

G2G with Solanke as first sub? I'll let Gusto come off the bench for Konsa and will likely do Konsa > Maguire for free next week. Projected to have four DGWers next week and ten starters in BGW26.

Some smart fella's or content creators will advise you to do Watkins to Darwin despite knowing full well it will backfire again like before

Trust me You simply dont sell an inform Watkins who is super streaky with fixtures reading (MU ful NFO lut) in next 4 gws

Can I sell him for Haaland? I will buy Watkins back in gw26.

Is there actually a perceptible pattern of returns that we can call "form" for Watkins this season though? To me he looked at his sharpest in the early stages of the season, and this haul followed a period of 2G & 2 big chances in 8 games where he ranked 15th among forwards for xG.

Its possible that having Tielemans, Luiz, etc all back together might have prompted the uptick but there still feels like some random element to his 'form' to me rather than clear hot "streaks".

Personally I'm deadending my team now so don't even need to look as far ahead as 26/7, so I'm pretty tempted (and very likely will) lose him for 24-5 for Darwin/Toney/Adebayo

Yeah sure, I would prefer that too if it worked for my team but some of the Watkins funds are going toward KDB also so I can only afford Haaland + Darwin & Cunha / Toney & Adebayo

You can't convince the sheep to not follow the herd. Live and let live I guess.
