    1) Raya, Fernandes, Rogers
    2) Henderson, Saka, Winks

    Which one?

      2nd option, if Rogers is a 5th mid/rotation option

Personally I wouldn't double up on Newcastle especially as question marks over Gordon's fitness but know that Southampton week 1 is very tempting but overall a pretty good team. Nice to see other options aside from just Munoz up front.

Thought about it but went for Solanke instead. Son is a great option to downgrade for a still high-scoring mid if another Pool option emerges and want to upgrade a defender or something though.

    A. Gvardiol + two 4.5defs and two 4defs with Eze

Leaning towards B as can be quite flexible and play the fixtures.

Some players just pick themselves. The only question marks for me are:

    (Flekken?)
    TAA - Porro - (Udogie?) - 4.5? - 4.0?
    Saka - Bruno - Eze - Nkunku - 4.5?
    Haaland - Isak - J.Pedro

Any concerns for any of the players mentioned above?

I think I am right in saying TAA hasn’t played any pre season and has been crap for about a year now.
Udogie was horrible to own last season and you don’t want double Spurs defence?
Flekken might be the worst keeper choice going.

haha 18 clean sheets two seasons ago but Casemiro has to be either reborn or a replacement. Casemiro was a lot better today to be fair.

        2. have you seen cyan

I think Onana is largely under-rated because ManU are perceived as a banter club.

          I shoved Onana in because:
          - don't like the 4.5's
          - he did pretty well last season (4th)
          - the new changes to the BP system least effected Onana out of all of the popular keeper picks (possibly all keepers I forgot now)
          - want some meat in Man U games and feel they will do better this season.

Not sure he is the best 5.0 however, or if a 5.0 is even worth it. Staring at Flekken every week will be miserable, and I already have a Palace defender. Pickford might be the one, but Everton only got good defensively in the second half of last season, am weary of that.

Guess reasonably template, but what am i over-looking / what do you dislike most about my current team (pls)? (Maybe ignore the LDavies pick - appreciate having to play him most weeks is a 1 point a week / £4,3m disaster waiting to happen (!), but willing to roll the dice for a bit i think).

    Areola (Fabianski)
    TAA Porro LDavies (Faes, HBells)
    Eze Gordon Salah Nkunku Rogers
    Isak Haaland (Jebbison)
[zero Arsenal, zero Villa, double Liv + Newc]

    1. FPL_trail_runner

TAA is way over priced and has a viable sub who will get minutes, hasnt played yet in pre-season and may come off the bench week 1

Eze - zero pre season minutes, no Olise and Mateta week 1
Rogers, will rotate with Ramsey and Villa have had a terrible pre season

      Zero Arsenal as you say

All fair. Hadnt really thought about TAA minutes risk to be fair. Altho was really about trying to get 2x Liv in for their great early fixtures. Unlikely to be a season keeper given your points. Option to downgrade to upgrade Rogers at some point i guess.

Eze almost the opposite. Likely to try and keep him longer term, if fit. So might have to ride out a low key first few weeks.

        Who's must have @ Arsenal?

I like the L Davies pick. From what I understand, he basically plays as a winger & 18 assists for a defender is an incredible return, regardless of it being in the championship. They won’t keep many clean sheets but could be this years Doughty. Nice run of fixtures from GW3 too.

There is a world where this defence can work despite been so cheap

    Barco on set pieces
    Davis on set pieces
    Hall on some set pices
Robinson from week 2 with best fixtures

I have a feeling Davis is going to be this years Dallas and just tick along despite the fixtures

    It enables so much

    Henderson
    Barco Hall Davis
    Salah Saka Nkunku ESR
    Isak Haaland Solanke
    4mil Robinson Winks 4mil

City will rotate and Gvardiol wont be attacking
        Arsenal will rotate more

Schade is an equal level talent and has progressed well, i think he (carval) will initially not start so no need to go there

Brentford have a decent amount of injuries and squad wise have lost their new CF to injury, uncertainty over Toney and its their 3rd -4th year in the league where i could see a path where they regress.

I mean they did fine with Wissa Mbeumo combo last year. Now they have Schade back to play LW and Carvalho will probably play CAM. I don't see an issue. Why would they buy such a good player and not play him...

I like it but I'm going with Havertz instead of Haaland.

Allows Winks to Fernandes and defence to have Munoz, Porro and Gvard.

I think those changes will bag you more points over the season than Haaland and the players replaced.

      1. FPL_trail_runner
        • 5 Years

        Yes could be viable

I think this year Haaland will do alot of 18,2,5,16 ,5 type runs where having him as captain will be a rank propeller

I think Bruno is not an fpl option - he has shown now for 3 years since his breakout he is just not at that level in this system, every year he is touted and never emerges beyond that regular 150ish points level

Porro i like , Munoz not so much

Keeping 0.5 in bank to swap Saka or Son to Palmer if it seems necessary. That's in a no Haaland draft. In Haaland draft it's only Saka who can be swapped.

on paper the 15m spent on alternatives wins.

      captaincy is the big question.

can you captain one of your 10m mids or Isak/Solanke/Havertz/Watkins if you go without?

Maybe actually the best to wait until week 3 for Leif Davis and go for this from week 1, with 2 playing defenders to cover.

    Areola
    Livramento Barco Hall
    Salah Saka Nkunku ESR
    Isak Haaland Solanke

    4mil Robinson Winks 4mil

Week 3 has some nice runs for certain 4,5mil defenders
: Davis, Konsa, Brighton from week 4, maybe west ham

    The £40m Question:

MOST of the draft teams I have seen that include Haaland (15m) and Salah (12.5m) make it work by including a combination of a 6.5m midfielder (MGW, Nkunuku) and a 6.0m forward (Wood, Muniz). That means 40m for four attackers. [I understand that others have dropped down to the 5.5m bracket in midfield, but I am going to set that aside just for now.]

For 40m, one could get any four of the following (with possibly some money left over) players that cost at least 8.0m: Palmer (10.5m), Saka (10m), Son (10m), Watkins (9m), De Bruyne (9.5m), Odegaard (8.5m), or Havertz (8.0m). [Everybody has Isaak, so I am leaving him to the side.]

The rest of the team can be EXACTLY the same, so it really is a straight up comparison. Halaand/Salah and two budget options versus four "premiums" (or "near premiums"?).

So, the question becomes, Do Salah and Haaland outscore the best two of these (e.g., Palmer and Saka) more than the other two (e.g., Son and Watkins) outscore the two enablers (e.g. Nkunku and Muniz). If you look at pts/match from last year, Palmer/Saka/Watkins/Foden were 26.7; Haaland/Salah/MGW/Wood were 21.62.

If you say, "Well, I have Haaland/Salah AND X player (e.g. Palmer) in my squad," that does shift things a bit, but it just means that you can select four of the remaining premiums in addition to X, so five premiums. It also likely means you've dropped into the 5.5m midfielder bracket. so the comparison becomes even more favorable to the premiums you get to pick. Again, the rest of the squad can be exactly the same.

I think the arguments in favor of Haaland/Salah are:
    1) Late returns or poor fixtures for the premiums.
    2) The captain: so, you are really spending 40m on "five" players, given that you will likely captain Haaland/Salah. Yes, the premiums give more captain choices, but one may not feel as comfortable deciding among them.
    3) It's easier to downgrade from Haaland/Salah; if you go the four premiums route, it's harder to get Haaland or Salah back in.
    4) This applies mainly to Haaland; you can have Salah and a more balanced squad.
    5) Haaland and Salah underperformed slightly last year; Palmer, Foden, Watkins, and Son overperformed, or have question marks surrounding how they will perform this year.
    6) The whole point of this article: Nkunku is going to be much better than his price this year. He's the key to this all working, or...
7)...at least one, possibly two, MFs in that 5.5/6/5 bracket will arise that can do the same, matching several of the non-Haaland/Salah premiums. So, you can still have Haaland/Salah, and the best of the rest of the premiums.

I get all these, and I think #1 is persuasive, but I don't want to bank in transfers from the start. I know it is incredibly risky, but I am seriously considering that the most optimal approach is to begin with four of Palmer, Saka, Son, Foden, Watkins, Odegaard, or Havertz.

Convince me I am completely daft.

Premium is just another term for pricy players. Can't judge them until well into the season if they're worth the high price. Haaland looks too pricy but depends on who you fit in your remaining 14 and picking a few good differentials could bring rewards.

I kind of think the fixtures have enabled Haaland and Salah teams. Because Fulham and NFO have very nice fixtures their players enable it. We wont have that double up all season anyway, for me after maybe 6/8 weeks I will change to the mids like you said.

See how it goes tbh, no plan set in stone. Who ever is in form and has fixtures. Saka and Palmer probably.
Its, not gonna be as easy to upgrade to Haaland etc if people dont have him and he goes on a run.

I guess most will use their wildcard if their knees buckle. But thats still a waste of a wc I think when you could have avoided the risk.

For me to move off salah or haaland will be easy. With just FTs.

when prices came out, my first reaction was to put in:

      Saka, Son, Foden, Nkunku
      Isak, Havertz,Mateta/Watkins

Then pre season minutes and tinkering happened.

Ignoring Salah and Haaland would be amazing if it works out!

I'm going to throw my fellow long-commenter a bone here (because most nobody reads these, unfortunately).

One of my "main" draft teams had Haaland, Salah, Palmer, Isak and Eze. Sacrifices were made in defense, which seems like the way to go, given how spotty even premium defenders were last season. Dropping Haaland means I was able to afford to replace ESR with Saka while keeping Eze as a fourth mid (a huge luxury to have a 7.0 mid as number four). I can't see myself playing anything but a 3-4-3 most GWs this season, so that works for me.

I am not at all convinced with any Chelsea assets, but if there's one I'd back to hit 200+ points, it's Palmer. Nkunku is very much an unknown quantity in the EPL as yet and while his price makes him SUUUPER tempting, if I'm spreading the Haaland loot around, I'm going with more proven quality (Saka, Son) or taking a punt on Doku in the same price bracket. I wouldn't make any decisions based on GW1, either, as I wouldn't be surprised to see City absolutely smash Chelsea (maybe with a cheeky penalty goal from Palmer to ruin it for those with Gvardiol).

My main concern with the non-Haaland/Salah premiums, on the other hand, are the Euros. KdB, Foden, Bruno, Saka, etc., will have had a lot more football this year than in a non-tournament year, so if you were thinking about Foden as cover for Haaland, I could, on the one hand see that argument, but at the same time, dude has played a lot of minutes this year. He may still start just based on sheer quality, but he could be rested for some of the "easier" plum (on paper) fixtures if there's a CL match in three days.

All in all, I'm dropping Haaland and keeping Salah. Until I re-tinker again, anyways 😀

I keep going back to the fact you can only captain one, which means to me the optimal selection is one of Salah/Haaland, and for me the 2.5m saving in Salah and the notion that if in doubt spend in midfield shifts me to a Salah draft.

      That’s enabled me to have 3 x 10m+ midfielders, a 6.5 and 5.5 mid, with a premium defense, Isak & Solanke and a 4.5 keeper.

I also take comfort in the fact that if I decide I need Haaland, I can get him in 2 moves by doing Salah to a 5.0 mid and Solanke to Haaland.
