    Your help is needed please

What other change should I make to this team before I stop tinkering:

    Neto > Pickford
    Robinson > Munoz

    Henderson Neto

    Quansah Konsa Romero Saliba Robinson

    Salah ESR Jota CHO Winks

    Haaland Solanke Havertz

    Any ideas would be welcomed

To be honest i dont know where did you spend money, and that is always bad.
You dont have Isak, have two 5.5 mid and def is cheap.
Too much money on the bench i guess

      Team looks solid
I feel the changes would make little difference as it looks like a coin toss with maybe a little peace of mind with a better bench

The more I think about it, the less I can justify going with any Arsenal defender or keeper. It's not about any single one of these points in isolation, but rather taken together:

    - It's hard to predict a clean sheet. Over the course of the season they obviously tend to favour the better teams, but in a short pre- wildcard window, there is too much variance to be able to count on one.

    - Similarly goals. Even if Gabriel is predicted to score 5 goals in a season, it's still statistically less likely than likely that he will return in the first 5-6 gameweeks.

On these points, you're not getting the average points per game over as 38-game span, you're getting a very small sample size which will likely significantly over or under-perform the average. Of course, they may well overperform but..:

    - Arsenal players are expensive. Good alternatives like Munoz are cheaper. (I'll just use Munoz as an example from here on!) Over the course of a dozen or so weeks, the quality of the more expensive players shows, but excellent fixtures for cheaper rivals put them on a similar standing. Other players are likely to overperform too. I see Munoz with good fixtures no less valuable than Salibriel with bad fixtures, and they really are..

    - ...Bad fixtures: Looking at various gameweek ranges between 3-6, Arsenal tend to rank in the bottom 5 for all of them (according to the season ticker). Again, Munoz with better fixtures should probably be put in the same tier as more expensive Arsenal players with bad fixtures.

This is an extremely unscientific and probably biased example but I'd be surprised if Palace didn't keep three clean sheets in their opening six matches. I'd be surprised if Arsenal didn't concede to Villa, Spurs, and City, all of whom they play away. On paper that makes a 90-minute Palace defender with attacking upside (going back to Munoz) almost exactly as good as Saliba or Gabriel, maybe better. For a fair bit less.

I think anyone putting an Arsenal defender in their drafts, and this has included me several times this week alone(!), risks falling into the trap of thinking in terms of the entire season. Early-season fixtures don't seem to justify it. It's not just that alternatives are better on a points per million basis, it's that they appear just as good for less money.

That makes sense if you're committing to a WC that early - you pretty much have to be off them by GW4 IMO.

I tend to prefer to wait a few weeks to WC because whilst having in-season data is more important than pre-season data, it's a case of ensuring you have enough datapoints not to end up with too many GW1 wonders (GW-oneders) which are hard to move away from later.

I’m going without, partly because I’m a spurs fan and I hate being even somewhat happy they kept a clean sheet and also the fixtures, not good at all and can always bring them in

Again, we find ourselves in respectful disagreement 🙂

Arsenal have the best defense in the league. They had an xGC of just 28.42 which is 7 better than City. Furthermore, they have 2 of the most reliable options to pick from at 6m in Gabriel and Saliba. Gabriel especially had the 2nd highest xG in the league last year. There are potential returns at both ends of the pitch and reliability which is hard to find from GW1.

The opening 3 fixtures are WOL avl BHA. I'm confident in getting 2 clean sheets from those games. I am much more confident in Arsenal defense than any other team in the league. They've also played the best in pre-season.

I would back Arsenal to keep a clean sheet against tot and MCI more than Spurs to keep them against wol ful for instance. There's a clear difference in defensive ability and the way the teams control games.

All good points Camzy! And I always enjoy a good debate with you. I assume you'll be going with at least one then? It'd be interesting to compare notes after maybe 5 GWs.

I think Arsenal will fall back a bit this season, have been excellent the last 2 seasons but going close in the PL and getting far into the CL, might have an effect on them. Think they'll come 4th. They only conceded 29 goals last season compared to Man City on 34 and Liverpool on 41. Can't see their defence being as good this season.

Arsenal had a superb 18 CSs last season.
Man City had only 13, Liverpool only 10.
Can't see Arsenal getting that number again.

    Good to go?

    Henderson | 4.0
    Alexander-Arnold | Gabriel | Gvardiol | Barco | Faes
    Saka (v) | Diogo J | Eze | Nkunku | Smith Rowe
    Haaland | Isak (C) | 4.5

Going to start with Gabriel for the attacking threat then move him to Robertson when I feel he's comfortably fit to start. Potentially in GW4.

Need to bring in Bruno & Solanke to enjoy it more. You're right.

Are we all overlooking Rico Lewis? How long do you think he has in the team?

He is £4.5 mil and the one that is going forward with Gvardiol not anywhere near as attacking. It’s also looking like Gvardiol is going play in a back 3.

2-3 GWs max, Walker came back last week I think and said he's ready to play. So might rotate with him.

No Haaland, No Salah, potentially no brains but this is my draft.

    Flekken Henderson

    TAA, Saliba, Gvardiol, Harwood, Barco

    Saka, Son, Jota, Eze, Nkunku

    Watkins, Isak, Pedro

With the idea to rotate Nkunku + Pedro

    What do you think?

    Son or Saka?

I can upgrade Eze to Ødegaard if Amad start, just curious who people here would have for the start(over the whole of the season Saka is probably the better asset).

Saka. Son not as lightening as previous seasons.

Such good opening fixtures for Forest and Fulham.

Muniz, Wood, MGW, and possibly ESR all great enablers. Just not enough attacking slots to fit them in!

I’m on CHO atm, he’s the only really low owned player in my team

Good pick, but wonder if Wood/Muniz will get more returns for 0.5 more
