Literally only just realised I've started with Bella Kotchap instead of Harwood Bellis 😆

Yes, Saka got 12 points today, but Arsenal have Villa, Spurs, City away next 4. Home to a decent Brighton side too.

Salah has Brentford, Bournemouth, NFO at home. United away which he has done well before too.

Despite Saka getting 12 points today, the temptation to move

Surely it's not easy for you? I started with Salah and Haaland for the very reason I thought it'd be easier to downgrade if they weren't good, but upgrading would require major surgery. I'm not saying this is the correct approach, but surely getting Salah requires you to make a sacrifice elsewhere?

You must have thought this before the season started, so whats different? If anything, Saka hauled, so you should feel more confident in your pick.

Selling Haaland for Salah before gw4 is something to consider. But let us see what happens before. Having Jota, Trent and Saka feels much better than downgrading another Liv asset to sell Saka for Salah.

It's definitely an option, but hard sell Haaland when he has Brentford at home GW4!

Saka is fixture proof. Yes Salah will likely score more given the fixtures, but assuming you have Haaland, this is an easy hold.

I am an Ajax-fan and Mazraoui played for us. He is incredible and the main reason Antony played very well for us. If Mazraoui was not available then Antony had a horrible game. The only issue is that Mazraoui is very injury prone.

I can’t see any ‘non-casuals’ saving enough free transfers in the first 6 gameweeks to build up about 4 together.
Can see myself still making a transfer every week.

The popular YouTubers get about 150k streams. That's at least 150k switched-on managers. Of those, there is of course going to be a good chunk that roll 3/4 transfers. The law of big numbers means there is going to be a lot of people doing the exact thing you're saying no one will do

Disagree. The general template is good. It'll probably score about 60 points this week once all games are played. Even if it doesn't it doesn't make it bad. It's one week and variance is a thing.

All irrelevant though. My point is there is a sizeable amount of non-casuals. 10 years ago probably 10k people played the game seriously. Now I'd guess it's about 300k. When you take a group of 300k, a sizeable amount of those will absolutely be rolling transfers. 'Non-casuals' are a huge group who don't do a single thing. Saying no people from a group of 300k won't do X is just plain wrong

I'd say if 150k people are taking the time out of their week to watch a hour long YouTube video, that suggests there's a sizeable chunk of people taking the game seriously. Is this really debatable? Anyone who's played the game for a decade must surely see there are far more people taking the game seriously now than there used to be?

Theres loads of people who watch or listen to content. Its quite easy to listen to podcasts while you do things. A lot of people who watch the mainstream stuff however don't have much experience in the game. I saw a fantasyhub post about their a team getting 81 points. They posted a screen with the baps added on. There were only about 10 comments at the time and 9 of those were people saying the points were wrong or hub were lying about the points lol.

Another day and could have been easily Jota brace and Salah A only. What's the issue?!? They both looked good and Trent also. Saka as well. We can't have them all. After next gw selling Haaland for Salah is a possibility, but with this amount of knees jerking we don't even know which one people want more when that time comes.

I knew the risks of going no Arsenal defense, and they don't have great fixtures so I have no immediate plans. But getting one of their defenders is gonna be a must soon. I was thinking earlier about them in comparison to Wood and Muniz. I feel like Gabriel/Saliba will return more often and with more points.

I cant believe how well he has done since that move. Feels like he can and will return every game. Have to see if he can live up it to it this season. I think he will get less pens, but still, he doesn't need them.

Ahhh. WC played. Again after 1st match. Not that my team was ba, I had 53 with Haaland + Son yet to play.

It's just another week of Tinkering.

Oh, and getting Salah over Jota and still keeping Haaland, Isak, Son, and a better defence.

    Henderson
    TAA Porro Robinson
    Saka Jota ESR Murphy*
    Haaland (C) Isak Solanke
    Flekken // Rogers Hall* Barco*

    1.0m ITB.

Hall bit more of a worry due to Kelly performance. Still don't mind I started with him, as would have gone Konsa otherwise (+3). Will consider moving him after GW3 potentially.

Barco is meh but not concerned about needing to make a transfer.

Murphy - desperately unlucky with him today (screw you Schar). Would you give him BOU or move him on? (The 1.0m was saved for a move like Nkunku. Though Wolves looked alright though!). Anyone else to consider?

Feel a bit robbed today with Murphy and Hall but especially Murphy. Could have been a great start without the sending off I think.
You think Hall will have lost his place now? Went off with clean sheet in tact despite 10 men, gotta count for something.
I think Murphy will start next game. Did nothing wrong was just a tactical move.

Talked about this a couple of times during pre season, but can someone explain to me why this thought developed that no Salah was the way to go. Nothing about today’s performance was surprising - he’s done it for 8 years now …

    1. Bada Bing
      • 9 Years

Probably because he looked to be on the decline during the second half of last season. Summer without football looks to have done him a world of good, he looks very sharp and energized now.

Back end of last year he was coming back from an injury in a team that had tired itself out fighting on 4 fronts and we knew he’d had a summer off. So again the probability of an improvement is again not new information.

I probably sound boastful (and maybe I am on some level) but it genuinely baffles me. He ticks every box.

It's about the combination of players you get with or without Salah. Saka matched him this week, which most went with who went Salahless. Its only the first week.

        Well:

        1. Saka didn’t match him quite
        2. More importantly, you didn’t have to choose between them, I have Son as well, so I went Son over Saka rather than Salah over Saka
        3. Liverpool have better fixtures than Arsenal.
        4. Salah to Saka is easy, Saka to Salah isn’t, so why take the risk?

I completely agree that Saka + £2.5m vs Salah over a season isn’t easy. Given fixtures and the ease of moving to Saka I never understood the logic of not starting with Salah.

Well Haaland vs. Ipswich, who Salah just hauled against us, is scary.

People hoped to 'cover' Salah with likes of Jota (8) & Trent (8) who both did pretty well too.

I don't think anyone thought Salah would blank this match really.

People with this view would have gained confidence after the first 45 minutes of the match today (0 shots for Salah), but Liverpool looked like a different beast in the second half

Because building a Haaland + Salah team you are happy with is easier said than done. I don't think him doing well surprises anyone. He's the most expensive player in the game for a reason!

Was it? I own Salah, Haaland, Son, Isak and Trent. And I have some fires to put out at the budget end but their the players you aren’t going expecting hauls from anyway.

          • 9 Years

What's the rest of your team? The fact GW1 hasn't even finished yet and you already have fires to put out kinda speaks to my point. Sacrifices had to be made

So GW1 starting 11 will be:

            Sanchez
            Quansah - Konsa - Trent
            Salah - Son - Nkunku - ESR - Rogers
            Haaland - Isak

My fires are Quansah and Barco. But they are pretty common fires and two players I was likely to consider even without Salah.

Yea - one game of 8 seasons of consistently doing it. I’m not saying he’ll keep it up all season, but when it’s time to sell you can move to any player in the game.

There was a sound rationale for not going with Salah from the start (mainly around having a more balanced side). That rationale is still sound despite him getting 14 points against a team who will almost certainly end up being relegated. More than one way to play this game

The more than one way to play is completely fair and I fully agree.

I guess a better summation of my view is why is Salah not the most owned player in the game. No player is completely essential but high ownership suggest some are close and I don’t understand the rationale of Salah being the one sacrificed.

You may be right. But surely better to wait till at least the end of the game week before making such a claim…..

If Porro, Solanke & Gvardiol all do well over the next 48 hours, your conclusion doesn’t seem quite as robust.

Except my claim is Salah is the last player I would sacrifice. So actually it’s more Haaland / Son / Palmers performance that matters more as you could easily have all three you mention and Salah but would most likely need to sacrifice one of the above.

Not in the slightest mate. I’ve done a really bad job in this chain of representing the tone I actually mean, completely hold my hands up to it.

I’ve spent much of the summer thinking I must be missing something as going for Salah seems so clearly obvious to me but that wasn’t the general consensus.

I guess part of it is also the concept of “balanced” I think is overvalued quite a bit. Having two players score 8 feels and looks better than one scoring 14 and the other scoring 2. But they are the same score.
