THE CAPTAIN POLL
% of votes in the Captain Poll | |
Alfie May (Birmingham City) | 26% |
Louie Barry (Stockport County) | 15% |
Alfie Doughty (Luton Town) | 10% |
Josh Maja (West Bromwich Albion) | 5% |
Kieran Sadlier (Wycombe Wanderers) | 5% |
ALFIE MAY
There was never any question that Alfie May (F) would once again be one of the most popular captaincy options. The Blues forward has netted three goals (+15) so far this season, one in each match, and has also provided an assist (+3). He is one of the players in Fantasy EFL who can almost guarantee points, which makes him the perfect captaincy candidate.
The captaincy poll for Gameweek 4 has reaffirmed May as the most sought-after asset, with 26% of voters choosing the Blues star. Supporters of May will be hoping for another strong performance and a second consecutive double-point haul after his impressive 11-point haul last week, which translated into 22 points for the many players who captained him.
Birmingham host Wigan Athletic next, which provides the forward an excellent opportunity to bolster his goal tally, with Wigan only securing one win so far this season, scoring one goal in the process.
LOUIE BARRY
Stockport County have been firing from all cylinders this season, winning all three of their first three matches and managing to secure clean sheets in every game. One player who has been influential at the top end of the pitch is Louie Barry (F). So far, the Aston Villa loanee has scored in every match and has provided his Fantasy backers an impressive 23 points overall.
The captaincy poll highlighted Barry’s popularity with 18% of managers believing he is the best player for captaincy in the upcoming week. His ownership is currently only 3.9%, which is relatively low for a player in such good form.
The Hatters face a tough challenge next week when they travel to Mansfield Town. However, Stockport’s impressive form and unwavering confidence could prove to be a decisive factor, especially considering their remarkable clean sheet record so far this season.
ALFIE DOUGHTY
Doughty (M) has emerged as a popular option among Fantasy EFL managers despite Luton Town’s disappointing start to the season. He has consistently delivered points in every Gameweek, thanks in large part to his ability to earn bonus points. Doughty has already made eight interceptions, which have earned him +16 points for his managers and 29 points overall. The Hatters’ wide man Doughty was included in the captaincy poll this week and proved to be a popular choice, with 10% of Fantasy managers selecting him as the best captaincy option for Gameweek 4.
The Hatters face QPR at Kenilworth Road in a crucial match as they seek their first victory of the season. Pressure is mounting on the manager as the team continues to struggle, and points are urgently needed. If Luton can perform to their full potential, Alfie Doughty could be a valuable asset and a strong captaincy option for Gameweek 4.
JOSH MAJA
West Brom have made a strong statement to the rest of the league with their impressive start, highlighted by the performances of Josh Maja (F). He opened the 2024/25 campaign with a sensational hat-trick (+15) against QPR, leading West Brom to a 3-1 victory. Following a goalless draw against Leeds United, Maja continued his scoring form with another goal (+5) in a 2-1 win over Stoke City. The Baggies have made a promising start to the season, and Maja’s four goals in just three matches have been a key factor in their success.
Maja finished fourth in the captaincy poll, attracting 5% of the votes for the upcoming match against Swansea City at the Hawthorns. Swansea has had a mixed start to the season, with one win, one draw, and one loss. Given West Brom’s strong form and Swansea’s recent results, a Baggies victory seems likely. Maja’s potential for another standout performance, similar to his Gameweek 1 hat-trick, makes him an attractive captaincy option for this week.
KIERAN SADLIER
Interestingly, Wycombe Wanderers’ Kieran Sadlier (M) secured 5% of the votes and is in joint-fourth with Josh Maja, the first time he’s been on the poll leaderboard! The second-highest League One Fantasy EFL scorer with 29 points, Sadlier has been fantastic for the Chairboys this season. In Gameweek 2, the midfielder secured a monster 15-point haul, including two assists (+6), three interceptions (+6) and two key passes (+1). He followed that up with an 11-point return in Wycombe’s 2-0 win over Rotherham including scoring (+6) and assisting (+3) for Cameron Humphreys’ (M) goal.
Sadlier is on penalties for Matt Bloomfield’s side, making him an appealing pick. Wycombe have scored six goals in three games, picking up six points during that time. With an away tie to Blackpool up next, who have secured one point and conceded nine goals in three games, the Chairboys will be hoping to feast at Bloomfield Road. Unbeaten last season against the Seasiders, Fantasy EFL managers are confident Sadlier will return to Buckingham with three points…and a haul!
