It took Arteta 6 transfer windows to get Arsenal up to the same level as Liverpool and Man City and seriously competing for the title. Ruben Amorim will need time and there will be setbacks a plenty along the way. Arsenal finshed 8th in the table in 2020/21 season and didn't even qualify for Europe. A deep run in Europa league will be needed by Amorim to compensate for inconsistent league results. Only after a couple of transfer windows ( shipping out players not up to the standards he sets ) and gametime for the promising youngsters can he then really be judged.

I think anyone with half a brain cell knows this already - would rather he focuses on top 4 than Europa though, which seems a lot more doable with all the inconsistent teams knocking about.

5th this year may be good enough for a Champions league spot. Let's assume Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and City lock out the top 4 then it will be wide open race for 5th which Utd are only 6 points off right now so maybe that should be the focus, however it will be difficult for Utd to get consistent results this season for sure.

        1. x.jim.x

City are absolutely flapping at the minute, we've got as much chance as them. I also don't believe that Chelsea are as good as people think, and they're due a wobble too. Liverpool and Arsenal are probably nailed on, then it could be anyone's. That being said, I don't think finishing 5th is too crazy of a prediction.

How many players have United purchased that you could say are worth what they paid for them?
They purchased multiple fwds that have been terrible while they didn’t pursue Kane.
DeGea ho ho ho that was a masterstroke, Hendo, the list goes on.

Convinced this bloke's had a severe head injury because I've already reminded him that Levy would rather have Kane put down than sell him to us several times over the past 18 months.

Indeed. Kane was desperate to join Manchester Utd given how good they have been lately. It’s a pity Bayern made a late bid & got their man.

750m and 5 seasons later, Arteta still only has the FA Cup to his name and that was with Emery's team too. No guarantees Amorim is successful at UTD.

Point is can Amorim get Utd to where Liverpool and Arsenal are now in the next 2 or 3 seasons. At that level they can then at least seriously compete for the title, however there is no guarantee of any trophies.

sooooooo were just gonna ignore all the great players and managers that have come before him and hope he is the messiah?

Van Gaal, Mourinho, even David Moyes are well established great managers.
Pogba, Di Maria, Matic, De Gea, Rooney, Ronaldo all were at their peak just before their failed united seasons.

history will continue to repeat itself and people will continue to have hope in the "new guy"

Getting to the very top level where teams can compete with Liverpool, Man City etc and staying at that elite level over a number of years is better than 2 seasons of poor league form with inconsistent results and winning a odd league cup or FA Cup trophy.

Cheers bud!! Yeah true, seems a bit needless and was lucky enough to get away with a hit last GW bringing Trent in.
Fingers crossed he’s fit, if not then Konsa can step in.

I'm on Palmer. Well rested and judging on Chelseas form and Brentford away record recently, then I'd say Chelsea is more likely to score +3 goals. Fulham look a bit more solid at the back, and Liverpool played CL.

Fulham have only got 1 CB available apparently

Obviously if Bassey does not play it's not an advantage for Fulham.
However they have faced Arsenal, Brighton and Spurs in the last 3, and only let in 1 goal each match.
That's good if you ask me.

And personally I rate Robinson highly. One of those defenders who might have a slim chance making it a cagey match for Salah.

But hey. That's just me 🙂
I'd probably say that Chelsea will win 4-1 and Liverpool will win 2-0. Salah and Palmer could match each other with those results.

I rate Robinson too but chances are one of the full backs will have to play as a CB which isnt ideal at any stage never mind playing away at top of the league

Robinson is the reason im leaning towards of captaining Palmer.

Its one or the other isn't it. I reckon most will go Salah in ML and will do the same for protection. I dont think this is the GW for a maverick punt.

You might be right, but a rested Palmer praised by his manager last weekend against one of the worst defenses away from home, after a GW where they won 3-4 against Spurs is not a maverick punt if you ask me.

Interesting bit on the 2nd yellow for Lewis. It should have been overturned by the ref after looking at the monitor, even if City were not given a penalty.

    https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/42771142/the-var-review-lavia-chelsea-tottenham-kulusevski-caicedo-sarr

“Verdict: The VAR's inability to review second yellow cards continues to be contentious, and this may be fifth incorrect second yellow as judged by the KMI Panel. It looks like a lunging tackle, but that was misleading and not enough for a second yellow card.

If a penalty was awarded the second yellow would be removed, but there's another way, too; If there's a review for a penalty, the referee can reject it but also remove the booking for Lewis. That would be through a penalty review, and not a specific review of the Lewis yellow. Once at the monitor the referee is in control of all disciplinary outcomes.”

He was stupid to dive in on a yellow even if looked harsh. The decision making got the outcome it deserved for Lewis
