How did the scout get it so wrong on Rogers, which would have invariably caused a lot of bench points pain for FPL managers?

    https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2025/04/12/southampton-v-aston-villa-fpl-team-news-predicted-line-ups

    The answer: Groupthink.

Groupthink is a virus. Groupthink amongst the predictors and groupthink amongst the writing staff drowns out independent thought. When groupthink takes hold like this, it's difficult for a lone voice to speak up and say, "Hang on, Emery never benches Rodgers; I reckon he will start, you know."

Many thought he might get benched. I didn't personally, but I was just guessing like the rest. He only has an assist, hardly game breaking is it.

"Many thought he might get benched." That's what I'm getting at. A kind of hive mind took over on Rodgers.

Individual match data like this https://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/matches/2444781/ takes over 2 minutes to load. Click on a tab and it's another 2 minutes to wait. I literally can't check the data from the games anymore.

I said it on here that far too many people were forgetting that this was still a massive game for Villa despite the PSG game. Champions League place at stake.

Terrible article though the other day it has to be said about clues on the Villa lineup. This is a completely different situation to Arsenal who can afford to rest with not much to play for.

Aye. Emery obviously took the new manager seriously and he knows how tight it is for champions league places. Plus if you look back at what he has said and done this season he has quite a bit of disdain for players being tired and fatigued.

any other Asensio owners just found it hilarious?

Included Ederson in my GW30 WC, with BB in 33 in mind... Did his injury look bad enough to suggest he will be out?

Pep called it a 'disturbance' and said it was the same issue that's been bothering him for weeks/the last month. Maybe an Isak-type situation of injury management?

Actually strange Emery has Asensio second for pen takers when you look at his pen record.

Emery on whether Asensio is still the penalty taker: "We have our penalty shooter and the first one is Marcus Rashford. The second is Marco Asensio, the third and others are Youri Tielemans, John McGinn and Ollie Watkins."

Well Villa don't have anyone with a good record outside of Rashford

      Pen record:
      Rashford 17/19
      Tielemans 17/24
      Watkins 6/12
      Asensio 2/5
      Rogers 2/3
      McGinn 1/1

Benches look okayish. Those who benched Marmoush/Evanilson have 3 mids doubling, Salah and Palmer. The double Arsenal defence benched are somewhat sketchy but acceptable.
Henderson benchers have Pope as well.

Damn, there are quite a few BB flops there. Statistically unlucky with the Arsenal & Forest clean sheet losses, though.

Some of those managers have put their best players on the bench too. I doubt Marmoush for example is on someone's bench normally.

I explained it above, they had 3 doublers in midfield + Saka and Salah. Isak and Mateta up top.

          Murphy*, Eze*, Sarr*, Salah, Palmer
          Isak*, Mateta*, Marmoush
          *=DGW

          Who would you bench?

I think BB is more of a hindsight thing. When the GW is over, your 4 lowest scoring players are your BB. Not who you picked.

Personally I disagree. IMO, the BB is worth what you would have benched (as long as you set it up as you would do were they not playing, and are honest about it.)

Gets a little funny when you've got SGW players you'd want to still play (E.g. Salah? Isak?) over a DGW player on the bench, but feel it's hard to measure the success if you don't treat it like this.

            2. TallestJohn
              • 8 Years
              7 months, 27 days ago

This is how I've always looked at it and it already looks clear that you'll almost never get an impressive BB score now there are fewer big DGWs. Like all chips it has a high ceiling and a low floor but however you score it the average is going to be much lower than TC or AM.

Sadly I haven't kept track over the years but feels like I've only had a couple of really good BBs since the chip was introduced. There are loads of chips I prefer in other fantasy games; I didn't make the most of it but I actually thought the long-mooted Max Captain chip in Fantasy EFL this year was interesting.

      Quote possibly.

Heurelho Gomes scored 21 points in a DGW once. 19 of those pints came in one game where he saved two penalties, and kept a clean sheet.

Ramsdale only shy of that 19 by three point!

Not sure if penalty saves counted for less, or bonus, if just fewer saves overall.

I'd absolutely think so. They've said earlier that if a team fires a manager midway through playing the chip, the points still accumulate, ie. the team as a whole being what you're actually fielding, not the manager.

Could somebody please confirm the following:

On a Freehit, if I sell a player that I own in my normal squad but then later decide I want that player on my Freehit, do I pay the current price not the price I got the player as part of my normal squad?

If you took them out, then you will be buying them back more expensive.

Now I'm looking at my team and wondering if it's worth using a bench boost this week at all.

I have 2FTs and i have areola, Gordon, milenkovic on the bench. With isak and salah the only single gameweekers in my starting 11. Do I REALLY wanna use free transfers to bring in villa players, considering the fixtures they've got, so bench boost them?

Feel like maybe I should just hold the bench boost til last game of the season, for the extra boost at the finale!

Villa are in good form, I think you can have a bit of faith against admittedly perilous fixtures.

        Sels, Murphy , Livermento, Milenkovic

that don't sound like a BB worthy bench does it?

No. The Forest clean sheet is unlikely.

Same bench as mine but I'm playing BB even though it looks bad other option would be to wait until either gw35/gw38.

I don't want to get hamstrung by BB so would rather get it out if the way now plus I've got 1 or 2 FT's that I can use to upgrade my bench

mine will be something similar and will play it anyway. Anything can happen over one game. My planned bb for 32 would have been kepa, asensio, milenkovic, bradley. Looks amazing but will be lucky to get 12 points

          Absolutely not, very risky.

          It’s on Isak this GW

        Raya Martinez
        Munoz Gvardiol Gabriel Livramento N.Williams
        Saka Eze Salah Rashford Murphy
        Mateta Isak Marmoush
        3FT 1.2m ITB

I'm thinking Murphy, Livramento, Gabriel to Bradley Rogers Saliba

It would leave me a bench of (Martinez Bradley Isak N.Williams) Seems ok for a bench boost although not great.

Not totally sold on Saliba as I am chasing and my mini league rivals have him. Thinking maybe someone else in that slot but can't see an obvious pick. That would free up an Arsenal slot but not sold on any of their mids really.

        Thoughts?

God dammit - I've only doubled up on defence twice this season (both times Forest) and have been burned both times. After keeping clean sheets against City, United, Liverpool and Arsenal you'd think that they would keep clean sheets against Ipswich and Everton but nooooo, they concede. I'm also planning on bench boosting in 33 - surely it must be third time lucky????

The guy below me in my mini league tripled up on Arsenal defence in gwk 29 and got 20 points. TWENTY.

        No justice.

It is a funny/bad narrative that keeps popping up, but he did play in Spain with the squad earlier this season.

        Couple of FH dilemmas:

        A) Mateta
        B) Watkins

        1) Munoz
        2) Bradley
