In his latest article, two-time Indian Fantasy Premier League (FPL) champion Lateriser debates over which midfielder he should buy for Double Gameweek 33. Kevin De Bruyne (£9.3m) and Bukayo Saka (£10.5m) stand out, but some one-match assets are also worth consideration.

Gameweek 1 reveal Salah

Well, so much happens in such a short time. A week ago, a certain Kevin De Bruyne wasn’t on anyone’s radar and now he’s seducing us like there’s no tomorrow.

Although in this case, there actually isn’t a tomorrow because this is his last season at Manchester City. He’s on his farewell tour. With his team motivated in the league, minutes should not be a huge concern but there is a potential rotation problem surrounding their FA Cup semi-final and possible final.

He’s pain-free, but the last time I jumped early on a De Bruyne wagon, there was pain and lots of it. I went there in 2023/24 and ignored Bukayo Saka – a decision that basically derailed my season.

I find myself in the exact same predicament, again! Deja vu? But this feels different is what I’m telling myself while writing this article on a Thursday.

DE BRUYNE V SAKA

Looking at the fixture schedule, maybe De Bruyne’s rest comes in the Aston Villa game that’s before the FA Cup semi. Yet that in itself is a crucial game when it comes to European places.

Above: The remaining FPL schedule, by Legomane

Outside of that, you would hope that he’ll be fine for Gameweek 35 at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The following Gameweek 36 could potentially see the Southampton game joined by Bournemouth in a double. He could be rested against the Cherries, pre-final, though you’d expect at least 30 minutes in that because it’ll be the last home game in his Man City career.

However, Saka’s schedule looks a lot trickier. His Double Gameweek 33 minutes probably look healthier but Gameweek 35 has him at home to Bournemouth, sandwiched by Champions League semi-finals against Paris Saint-Germain.

When comparing the fixtures between now and the end, Man City’s look slightly nicer, as the Gunners must face Liverpool and Newcastle United in Gameweeks 36 and 37.

I’ll make a decision on Saturday. It’s a very important one because, while Kev’s single performance can lure one in, Saka has been starring for a couple of years now, takes penalties and is probably more nailed-on.

OTHER DOUBLERS

FPL Gameweek 30 round-up: Wednesday’s goals, assists, bonus points + stats 5

With Man City being one of eight teams kicking off the Gameweek together, it is prudent to leave your transfers until late, in case there is team news that can influence our moves.

I own three of Pep Guardiola’s lot but that includes Phil Foden (£9.2m) and Abdukodir Khusanov (£5.0m). Even if the latter does start on Saturday, I wonder if he’s a long-term problem that needs addressing. Heading into Saturday’s deadline with a loose idea of your permutation of moves will hold you in good stead.

Aston Villa played an outstanding game against PSG and Morgan Rogers (£5.6m) seems their safest bet for midfielder minutes. As well as that, I think he is growing massively as a player, getting involved in plenty of goals and assists.

We now know that Marcus Rashford (£6.7m) is their first choice for penalties, but I do agree with FPL Villan here in that he might be competing with Ollie Watkins (£8.9m) for the centre-forward spot.

SINGLE GAMEWEEK TIPS

FPL Gameweek 25 differentials: Trossard, Huijsen + Bowen 1

I do think there are a couple of very interesting single Gameweek midfielders, if you don’t fancy picking one from the doubles.

Luis Diaz (£7.5m) plays Leicester City, which in itself feels like a Double Gameweek. Those not using Free Hit in Blank Gameweek 34 will like that he faces a Tottenham Hotspur that might potentially be distracted by the Europa League.

There’s one tricky fixture against Arsenal in Gameweek 36, but there should be no problems about owning Liverpool attackers. He’s among the top 10 outfielders for expected goal involvement (xGI) in the last six matches and, given Cody Gakpo’s (£7.3m) form, I think Diaz is firmly the left-sided first choice, with a flexibility to play some minutes on the right.

Elsewhere, Bryan Mbeumo (£8.0m) is at home to a stuttering Brighton and Hove Albion opponent, before some obliging fixtures to end the season. It’s the same for shot-friendly Jarrod Bowen (£7.5m), hosting Southampton and Spurs in Gameweeks 33 and 35.

Keeping everything in mind, including Friday’s press conferences, I would aim to wait until the last hour before Saturday’s deadline. Have a few plans in place that react to potential team news.

With Man City also having a potential Double Gameweek 36, this bit of news and the moves you make could be pretty significant until the end of the season.

I think Palace have to rotate against Bournemouth FWIW, and go again against Arsenal.

Richards and Lacroix had no training at all whilst travelling to City and Newcastle (boy were Newcastle good). City just went horribly wrong. One stupid free kick instead of keeping Man City passing sideways and crossing, changed the game. KDB came alive.

They are knackered so i feel that Bournemouth has more rotation than Arsenal especially defensively. Ward now fit, might get his send off at home????

See Arsenal V Palace low scoring too as a result.

think Nketiah will start at Bournemouth and Mateta will get 75+ against Arsenal.

I am guessing. I'd wait for the presser there.

              Its the defensive shape.

Concede 12 goals all season, away from home, then bang 10 goals in 2 games.

Got Foden, Gabriel and 3 FTs

I'm not convinced by 33 as a DGW and thinking of getting in the likes of Bowen/Mbeumo/Diaz and concentrate on a decent 34 and then saving both the FH and BB for a better opportunity

Would keep the 3 Newcastle assets as well

        Does this make sense?

Sacrifice a bit for 33, target eeking out a team for 34 then cash in on the end of season chaos in 36/37

I don't mind this. Diaz is a prime example, definitely overlooked in favour of doublers, despite noone having faith in anyone who will actually play twice in 33
Not using the FH means you gain that extra transfer.
Maybe 36 is a better use of FH
You know the risk though, if Saka, KDB and Saliba and Rogers etc all decide to go ballistic

        2. Big Mike

Keeping Newcastle attackers (but not defenders) makes sense, as the Villa game is likely to be open and high scoring, but I would maintain that 33 is the best time to bb, as you don't know what future doubles will look like yet. Plus key players may get injured / suspended, and the vast majority of managers who have the bb left will, I suspect, use it in 33.

Bringing in Bowen however is a good move, even if you are bench boosting, although I would avoid Mbeumo until gwk 36.

Those thinking of selling Jacob Murphy, something you might find interesting. He's had 19 consecutive starts in the league since being a bit in and out prior to GW14. Since GW14 he's had 18 goal involvements in 19 games, only bettered by Salah and Isak. This isn't a recent fixtures thing this is a man in the form of his life playing in a good team with very good players around him enjoying his football, fit and confident.

No I don't think so. KDB will, I suspect play at least 120 minutes over 2 games and in that time can easily bag a big haul in both fixtures. I actually think that Pep will prioritise the Premier League over the FA Cup, and in that respect KDB is likely to get more league minutes. As for Saka - you just can't leave the guy out as he can conjure up an attacking return out of nothing. Plus he has penalties too.

I've gone with Murphy swap to rogers. Will probably swap either rogers or rashford back to Murphy after the double. Well it will be after fh.

Of the 3 I'd sell Savinho, as he's a rotation risk.

            yeah definitely a nasty collision

just the gk did block the header, i guess excessive force comes into play

I think its been made clear over this season generally but a timely reminder the past 48 hours that keepers aren't the protected species they once were and they need to start being more careful when they are flying through the air.

true, slowing the collision down with VAR makes it look worse as well. still think theres abit of a grey area where the gk gets the ball though. like yesterday some seemed to think the palace pen shouldnt have stood as pope did get to the ball first

Maddison got the ball first. Thats it. Foul.

If maddison doesn't, then it is fine. IMO of course.

Was going to play BB and bring in Saka & Kiwior for Palmer & Greaves. Then considered wildcarding. My third thought today is to play FH! Having realised I have 9 players for BGW34 with 2 FTs. I fancy covering KdB, Saka and keeping Salah this week plus I can get Marmoush in. Then wildcard in GW35...

        Martinez
        Gvardiol GREAVES Munoz
        Salah PALMER Mbuemo Rogers Trossard
        Isak Mateta

        Areola Beto Robinson Burn

          FH38 is tasty though 🙂

          Could go Bowen/Diaz

Was going Bradley, but thats up in the air a bit

If WC34/35 you can pick your team for the best game week.

I have the same dilemma above with no FH. Not sure what to do.

Lots of ways to play things. Just not sure my single gameweek BB above is the best use of the gameweek as I'm not stacked on doublers and given not many will have Salah, KdB, Marmoush and Saka I think it packs a real punch. I can play 10 plus Greaves or take a -4 in 34 then wildcard.

Cucu really has been an attacking threat after new year. Who needs Palmer when you got him scoring.

        BB33, FH34, have 3fts

Burn, Murphy, Palmer > KDB, Rogers, Kiwior for free?
        Or too risky?

I dont think KDB plays twice, he has to play in the FA Cup SF?

Bowen, obviously Saka. Murphy is fine. Villa play a high line too.

I'd keep Murphy, so it's just Palmer + Burn > KDB and Kiwior for me. Or Bradley.

        Murphy with the single
        Sarr with a tricky double

Best option from the below with 3FT? Will be using FH in GW34. No longer have BB. Would like to save as many transfers for GW36/37 as possible so unsure if it's worth saving that third FT for future gameweeks?

          Raya
          Gvardiol - Munoz - Livra
          Salah - Eze - Sarr - Murphy
          Isak - Marmoush - Evanilson

GK - Kerkez - Foden -Gabriel

          A) Gabriel, Murphy & Foden > Kiwior, Saka & KDB
          B) Gabriel & Foden > Kiwior & Saka (roll 1FT)
          C) Murphy & Foden > Saka & KDB (roll 1FT)

KDB will most likely outscore Savinho between now and the rest of the season. However, whether he does so in 33 (and repays the -4) is anyone's guess, as we are dealing with Pep.

I would still bring him in, although it's up to you.
