With the next Fantasy Premier League (FPL) deadline nearing, we’re hearing from our panel of guest writers. Here, three-time top 500 finisher FPL General talks through his Gameweek 37 team.

FPL General reveals his first draft for 2024/25 1

GAMEWEEK 36 REVIEW

Like many Premier League teams, the troops are on the beach as we head towards the season conclusion. It was another Gameweek of minimal rank movement, with a green arrow from 25k to 24k. A top 50k finish now looks secure, but the top 10k feels just out of reach. It’s a matter of soldiering through these next two Gameweeks, avoiding disaster, and getting another solid overall rank under the belt before a much-needed FPL detox.

Two free transfers were used last Saturday afternoon to bring in Yoane Wissa (£6.8m) and Chris Wood (£7.2m). They replaced Jean-Philippe Mateta (£7.6m) and the benched Omar Marmoush (£7.5m). Wood did the business against his former club Leicester City, but Wissa blanked. He did register four shots in the box, however, which is encouraging ahead of games against Fulham (h) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (a).

What a gem Daniel Munoz (£5.2m) is as a Fantasy defender. The 11-point haul against Tottenham Hotspur could’ve been even bigger, with the Colombian rattling the crossbar. He had three goal attempts and created three chances in the game. More of the same on Tuesday night, please, Daniel.

It was satisfying to get the Nick Pope (£5.0m) v David Raya (£5.5m) call correct in Gameweek 36, but it’s not as straightforward this weekend as they face each other.

I was planning to bring in Morgan Rogers (£5.7m) for Ismaila Sarr (£5.6m) last week, but decided to put the move off to give Sarr the Spurs fixture, which worked out. Both players got six points.

GAMEWEEK 37 BUS TEAM

Best of luck for the Gameweek, folks, and have a great weekend.

Don’t forget to check out the latest episode of the 59th Minute Podcast, which was released on Wednesday.

Sadly it probably has to be B. I think you would kick youself if you benched Salah and then this week is the week he goes crazy again. Even though Liverpool are quite literally on the beach right now.

Again, would depend on if you are chasing or protecting a lead.

Need to make up points? Bench Salah hope he blanks again.
Protecting lead? Follow what you think your rival will be doing with their selection.

Chasing 10 points in my mini league. He will go for Watkins (c).

I can get to Watkins but I need a -4 as I already have 3 villa players.

Should I take the hit and try and keep the pace or go for someone else (not sure who as I can't get to Palmer without a hit too).

    Any advice appreciated!

If you're chasing you want a differential. Watkins blank and you catch him.

Could play safe with Mbuemo cap (I presume you have him) or left-field with the Villa player (Ascensio?) your rival doesn't have.

    Martinez
    Gvardiol - AWB - Munoz
Salah - Mbuemo (VC) - Rogers - KdB
    Vardy (C) - Wissa - Isak

    Raya - Murphy - Konsa - Saliba

0FT, 3.3ITB, 4.8k OR, 93 points ahead in my main mini league. Brought in Vardy for Marmoush and captained him as I'm a sentimental Leicester fan and am pretty safe in terms of ML and OR.

      1. Punk as Fuchs
        • 7 Years

Both could do well! My thinking is, Arsenal have the tougher fixture on paper and Saliba's points have mostly come from clean sheets, but Newcastle could well score (hopefully through Isak!) Also, I don't like having a forward and a defender facing each other if I can avoid it.

Meanwhile, Palace have kept almost as many clean sheets as Arsenal, and Munoz also gets more attacking returns, and they're playing Wolves who have conceded the fourth highest amount of goals this season, have lost their last two games and are pretty firmly on the beach now.

The fly in the ointment is the FA Cup Final, so Munoz could get injured, could be tired from partying/drowning his sorrows, so he could get reduced minutes on Tues.

I am moving AM chip from Glasner to Cooper. Pain in the arse this chip. It means I need a -4 to get Watkins for Mateta ( bench Isak). I would captain Watkins

Better to do this or take eye hit next week and get Evinilson Vs Leicester?

Thanks for the reply. I need to make the AM move as it will take me into the top 10k if it works out. I can afford Mateta to Watkins so it would allow me Isak the last gw but at the expense of Evinilson last gw. I will be getting Tross or Saka with my ft

I've taken a long winded route to this. I guess my question is

Take the -4 now or next week . Watkins Vs Evinilson

        1. Eightball
          • 5 Years

But Wolves don't really have too much to play for and Cunha is off in the summer so you can't guarantee the full 90. I think ultimately it depends if you are chasing and what moves you want to make in 38. If you're happy just doing KDB to Saka in 38 and that's it, I would probably do B. Although if you are chasing Cunha could be a nice differential. Watkins is the popular pick this week. I am going against the grain not getting Cunha personally but i'm not thrilled by it. I do however want to make two moves in 38 and don't really want to take hits this late in the season.

Not essential but he is the best captain for this week and I think his game in 38 is good as well. Can you still get Saka & Evanilson in 38? Whilst a good pick, I don't think Bowen is essential.

Saka is fine. I’d then have to choose one of

            Sarr > Semenyo

            Or

            Wissa > Evanilson

What what it's worth I am going without Watkins this week but i'm not thrilled about it. I just don't have the transfers to get him easily and not sure it's worth a -4.

Akin to being stuck behind the eight ball. Ironic.

I think that’s the right decision. I’m on the fence and that’s for free. Harder to justify for -4. He’d need a brace to justify it abd Spurs just might show up

How highly do you rate these picks for GW38?

    a) Semenyo (LEI)
    b) Murphy (EVE)
    c) Rogers (mun)

Trying to decide whether to keep Semenyo for that fixture, which would mean this week I roll do Murphy to Schade (to bench Semenyo). Or to just get Rogers for Semenyo, strengthening GW37, but slightly weakening GW38 by not having Semenyo.

Murphy -> Schade & keep Semenyo for 38 would be the way I go.

Schade could easily match/outscore Watkins. I fancy a few goals in the Brentford game (as usual)

Thanks. It comes down to whether the gap between Rogers v Schade in 37 is bigger than the gap between Semenyo v Murphy in 38.

I'd keep Semenyo for 38 even though he has massively trolled me this year.

I fancy Konsa for 6/7 points. Munoz with a higher ceiling. Plus, we know where we stand with Konsa. Munoz is a bit of a shot in the dark with a big game before he plays his PL game

    A or B?
    A. TC Watkins 37
    B.TC Saka 38

    Thanks

I'd go B. The extra clean sheet points & points per goal would be enough to swing it on TC.

Watkins absolutely fine too. Would be shocked if he got less than 6

The CS is an interesting point. I feel Saka has a higher floor but Watkins has a higher ceiling, and would go with Watkins myself. And I am obviously aware that Saka could definitely haul as well, I just think Watkins is more likely to do so.

I've been playing this game a long time now and still to this day, captaining a player on the first game of the week just feels wrong. Absolutely no statistical back up here. A blank feels like the weekend is gone already

    1. Traction Engine Foot

Yeah, it's very frustrating if they blank and you have to get through all the other games. But logically it makes no difference

Yeah, I know what you mean. Back in GW35, I captained De Bruyne without realising City were playing first. Had I known, I may have changed my mind.

I’m so adamant Villa are going to score 3+ goals that I’m not looking outside of Watkins, tbh.

That's fair. If Villa played Monday night, it wouldn't even be a question. I wonder if I've lost points over the years with this mentality. I don't think so tbh

        1. Mr.K

Not losing points is probably also due to the "bigger" teams rarely playing on Friday, though.

Of course I don't know how you think, but I also think that if I'd be doing the same and half-way analysing whether it's losing me points, I might be tempted by some sort of bias. For example, let's say Liverpool plays Inter on Wednesday and Crystal Palace on Sunday. I captain Salah on Sunday, and he blanks. Watkins would have had a decent form and scored against Newcastle on Friday, but I don't really look at that.

I think that yeah ok, it's the typical UCL hangover so it sort of makes sense that Salah blanks. In other words, I'd conclude that I lost points because I failed to take UCL into account, not because I avoided captaining a good captain choice that played on Friday.

          But that's just me!
