If you’re in a rush and need some last-minute Fantasy Premier League (FPL) advice, here’s a quick round-up of what you need to know about Gameweek 3.

WHEN’S THE FPL GAMEWEEK 3 DEADLINE?

All transfers and team selections need to be done by 11:00 BST on Saturday 30 August.

PALMER, SAKA + AIT-NOURI UPDATES

Saka + Palmer among eight to pull out of England squad 1

Last weekend saw several high-profile, well-owned FPL players get hurt. Cole Palmer (£10.4m) pulled out of Chelsea’s warm-up, Rayan Ait-Nouri (£6.0m) only lasted 22 minutes, and Bukayo Saka (£9.9m) couldn’t reach the hour mark.

“I spoke with Thomas [Tuchel] a few times but then at the end, it is Thomas’s decision [to leave Palmer out of the England squad]. So, he decided for that, but again, he’s not available tomorrow so it’s quite normal. It shows that he has some problems.” – Enzo Maresca on Cole Palmer

“Bukayo is doing better but he will be out for a few weeks, unfortunately.” – Mikel Arteta on Bukayo Saka

“He’s fine, yep.” – Pep Guardiola on Rayan Ait-Nouri

The quotes coming from our press conference update are a mixed bag. Neither Palmer nor Saka will play this weekend, but Ait-Nouri is fine despite already being sold by over 530,000 owners.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jorgen Strand Larsen (£6.5m) also looks set to miss out.

TIME TO PANIC?

Liverpool v Bournemouth team news: Ekitike, Wirtz, Frimpong + Kerkez start

Combining these injuries with underperformers like Ollie Watkins (£8.9m), Florian Wirtz (£8.4m) and Jarrod Bowen (£7.8m) is causing some chaos amongst managers. For example, none of our 18 elite ‘The Great and the Good’ bosses currently sit inside the top 3.8 million.

Some are already Wildcarding, to maximise price changes and catch the good upcoming Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Wolves fixtures.

FPL General is one of these. Sticking to his ‘No Salah, no Haaland’ policy, our Pro Pundit now owns two of this week’s three unanimous Scout Squad picks, Joao Pedro (£7.6m) and Chris Wood (£7.7m).

A Free Hit may be a good temporary band aid – and you can see two potential Gameweek 3 drafts here.

MAN UTD MIDFIELDERS

Keep or sell Wirtz in FPL - and which United midfielder to buy? 1

FPL General is also investing in the Manchester United midfield that’s about to host Burnley. It remains a popular strategy, despite their humiliating Carabao Cup elimination to Grimsby Town.

But which one is best? We saw last week that Bruno Fernandes (£9.0m) takes – albeit misses – penalties and is capable of securing defensive contribution (DefCon) points.

Yet Zophar and Lateriser prefer Matheus Cunha‘s (£8.1m) goal-scoring threat, while Bryan Mbeumo (£8.0m) has more box touches than his teammates. Furthermore, his corner would’ve registered an assist at Fulham, had it not gone down as an own goal.

BEST FPL GAMEWEEK 3 CAPTAIN

Who is the best captain for FPL Double Gameweek 19? 1

Bruno Fernandes and Erling Haaland (£14.1m) are the two leading armband options, according to Captain Sensible and our Rate My Team (RMT) algorithm. In a different order, though.

As for the third-best recipient, there is love for Chris Wood and Mohamed Salah (£14.5m).

TEAM REVEALS

SCOUT PICKS + DIFFERENTIALS

Our weekly selection – which is essentially a Free Hit in all but name – piles in on the appealing home fixtures of Man United and Nottingham Forest.

Sticking with the Red Devils, defender Matthijs de Ligt (£5.0m) makes the trio of differential picks. He’s one of eight players to have gained DefCon points in both games so far.

PREDICTED LINE-UPS

We’ve predicted the starting XIs of all 20 Premier League teams.

Match previews for every game can also be found in the team news section.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck with FPL Gameweek 3!

FPL Marc Broadcaster, writer and overthinker. Hoping that ‘differential potential’ will catch on.

I always do this. Pressed wild card too early after drinking too much.

    Please rate my WC team:

    Debravka Vicario

    Munoz Porro Cucurella Cash Rodon

    Semenyo Reighnders Cunha Kudus Gakpo

    JP Haaland Ekitike

        Exactly the same dilemma

Went for Cash over Dorgu due to better fixtures

Went for Vicario over Sanchez to keep Palmer rebuy option after international break

Defence is slightly heavy and missing DC magnets.

Not sure about Cunha long term.

      Consider Sanchez.

      Looks good.

Do you think Tarkowski or Milenkovic over Munoz?

This DC thing is new to my head!

Yes same. I’m not sure it’s the guaranteed fountain of points that some people are hyping it up to be but if it is, I want a cut haha.

I think Tark is good - Lacroix is also highly rated, and people like Senesi and Van den Beegh. You can sort by def cons on the player list.

Munoz is also a proven solid pick so you can’t really go wrong there… but if you wanted a bit more of a balance and cash in the bank for possible future premiums, the cheaper DC guys open that up.

Not sure Johnson is an upgrade especially now they signed Xavi Simons… Rather stick with Kudus!

Put it this way…30-40 points from DC for a defender is 10-15 assists. Tarkowski got 40 something equivalent to 15 assists

Picking a United captain was too much of a minefield for me this gw - I think we’ll win but the goals and assists could be spread around the team. Best of luck mate.

I honestly dont think they are great fixtures for Chelsea or City. They arent terrible but I'm not fearing being a non-owner of either that much this week. It will be a Man Utd player who I havent signed yet or Chris Wood. Probably the latter.

I entirely agree. Fulham are no pushovers and then they’re away to Brentford which won with ease last week. But picking the right Utd midfielder isn’t easy. As a Utd fan I’m not thrilled by comments from Bruno that he’ll consider his future next summer. What voice does he have in that dressing room?

I remember having captained TAA sometimes. Once I had bad season and I decided to play it safe and captained the only 50% CS odds def who also had attacking threat. Cancelo got RC for denying clear goal scoring opprtunity and MCI conceded because of his error.

I actually tripled captained Trent in the small DGW 2019/20 - had it on Mané (the "famous" one-pointer) all week, but got a weird premonition and shifted the armband minutes before the deadline.

It could go really well. West Ham have been so bad defending set pieces/aerially so far this season. Could potentially get a goal and cs. Maybe some defcon too. Maybe nothing but same applies to any. Point is he does have multiple avenues to points and a really high ceiling this week.

      1. Dank Squid
        • 7 Years

Yes, this is exactly what I'm hoping for. Looked at all the goals West Ham have conceded so far, most of them from corners/set pieces. Not expecting DCs in this game, though.

      Actually prob comes down to:

      A) Palmer -> Cunha (FT)

      B) Palmer + Guiu -> B.Johnson + Wood (-4) [bench Wirtz]

Wouldnt wanna be paying points to bench Wirtz. So out of those, A. But also wouldnt fancy double Urd attack becsuse they aren’t very good at moment.

Fernandes or a spurs mid I guess, maybe spurs mid for the upcoming fixtures, I've gone with Kudus.

B (wouldn't want a Forest defender once they start playing Europa League - maybe Sels at a push)

    G2G? Benching Gabriel…

    Sanche
    Cucu - Munoz - Dorgu
    Gakpo - Kudus - Semenyo - Cunha
    Wood - Haaland (c) - Pedro

    Dubravka - Gabriel - Reijnders - Gudmondsson

I’m playing Gabriel hoping for a big game set piece goal, benching Diouf away at Forrest.

Your team looks G2G, apart from having United def (not kept a clean sheet) and United attacker (not scored a goal). Bitter pessimistic United fan here btw so pinch of salt.

Haha yeah I’m giving Cunha this game & then will move him elsewhere. Any other 4.5 defender you prefer?

Salah back to back jammy late returns.

Are West Ham in that position where they’re going to get slapped by everyone until they make a managerial change, in which case Wood looks good for a 10 pointer?

    (C)?

The more I think about it the more Wood makes sense, West Ham are terrible
