It’s Scout Picks time as we choose our best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players for Gameweek 7.

We considered the Scout Squad submissions made by Marc (Staff Writer), Sam (General Manager), Tom (Deputy Editor) and Neale (Editor) before coming up with our final team.

As ever, we are limited by certain restrictions.

  • An £83.0m budget for our starting XI
  • An overall squad limit of £100.0m
  • No more than three players per team

GAMEWEEK 7 SCOUT PICKS

GOALKEEPER

3m team news:

Nick Pope (£5.0m) comes in for Newcastle United’s home encounter with Nottingham Forest. The Magpies will fancy their chances of a fifth clean sheet in seven Premier League games, especially considering that the Tricky Trees have failed to impress from an attacking perspective under Ange Postecoglou, having not won any of their six matches with him in charge.

DEFENDERS

FPL pre-season: Calafiori debut, Nkunku benched + Maresca on Neto

    Morning,

My defence is still in a state owing to my awful early WC... (having my worst season since 2015/16!)

Worth a hit to bring in an Arsenal def this week, or just roll and play Gudmundsson?

    Dubravka
    Dorgu - Gvardiol - Gudmundsson
    Mbeumo - Semenyo - Gakpo - Reijnders
    Haaland - Watkins - Gyokeres

    Sels / King - Cucu - Ballard

Well mate tbh I would say WC

But yes I would take hit for gabs

I'd just take the hit rather than struggle on with that defence which is a bit of a mess; should easily pay off over a few weeks vs starting Dorgu/Gudmundsson

    either worth a FT?

    A: JP > Woltemade
    B: Salah > Saka
    C: Ndiyae > Doku
    D: Ndiyae > Minteh

I prefer Saka to Salah for next few weeks. And obviously saves you a lot of money. Depends what you can do with that money though.

I’m on a wildcard. This is my current squad. Would really welcome any thoughts - especially around questions marks.

    Pope, Dubravka
Gabriel (?), Van der Ven, Tarkowski, Senesi, Rodon
    Saka, Semenyo, Sarr, Reijnders, KDH
Haaland, Gyokeres, Pedro (? - maybe Woltemade?)

I had considered Calafiori instead of Gab - and if Gab is potentially injured for this weekend it might swing it. Also gives me a 0.5 saving. Similarly, can save 0.6 by bringing in Woltemade for Pedro - I like him and he’s a focus point for Newcastle. But once Wissa is fit will he retain minutes? Both of those would give me an extra mil - where to put it? Upgrade Sarr? Upgrade VdV? Maybe bring in a Newcastle def in place of gab and bring in Raya?

    1. Ze_Austin
      • 7 Years
      9 months, 26 days ago

I'd take Guehi over Tarkowski and Gordon over Reijnders, if affordable

Isn't KDH suspended? Just park King on the bench so you'll have funds to play with later

      1. Ahsieuwbb
        • 3 Years
        9 months, 26 days ago

KDH is suspended, but would be on my bench this weekend anyway. Got him for the longer term, happy to have him come in some weeks and could be good cheap option for a BB soon.

I like Gordon, especially on pens. But also think Reijnders is superb value still (even if he doesn’t repeat GW1 every week!). Could be tempted in place of Sarr if I got Woltemade instead of Pedro.

Also tempted by Guehi or even Keane/West Ham cb instead of Tarkowski. I’m guessing Nino will have West Ham CBs defending like forest of last year, racking up defxon.

Unless you're defending a lead, I'd get Bowen / Woltemade over Pedro.

And a Palace defender over VDV.

(If you go Woltemade, I'd leave a little ITB to upgrade him in case he loses minutes to Wissa as you say).

I just need to get off the Utd assets at this point. Obviously things might change after IB but then they have Pool next. Newcastle have nicer fixtures.

Probably the best game to get Gordon for this run, with what's happening at Forest

While Sunderland is on a high atm, and Man U is... Oh well. Just the current vibes though, which might not always play out in data or results

Got a tad of arsenal fomo, WC still to play but really want to hold on till gw8. 1ft and 0.6 itb(0.1 short of porro to Gabriel..) thoughts on a one week punt here?

    Sels or dubravka (undecided here)
    Anderson, Lacroix, porro
    Bruno, reijnders, sarr, semenyo
    Haaland, Watkins, Pedro

    Gakpo, Rodon, agbadou

      1. Garlana

If I'm playing WC in 8 I will likely get both of them on WC, guess I was probably favouring the fullbacks of arsenal more for one week.

    2. OneTeamInBristol

Porro to Califiori or Timber. I wouldn't get Saliba.

I'm not sure on Sels or Dub either - going Dub though I think.

You could always go with Saliba over Gab.

    b) Sarr & Thiago

    Gyok Haaland JP

    Dubravka Reijnders Diouf Esteve

I wouldn't be taking a hit to remove Salah, but Williams needs to go.

Can you upgrade him to a Timber/Califiori? If not, get Senesi.

    No Arsenal attack.

    A) Grealish & Mateta to Gyokeres & cheapie 5.4m for less (Xhaka?)

Sarr, because Enzo's position might change again when Palmer returns

We've got the most misleading xG in the league, boosted by pens and Sesko needing 3 shots to score from a yard out, yet you've still got idiots using it as a reason to keep Amorim.

Woltemade good pick for a bit longer...

Yoane Wissa has suffered an injury set-back — with his knee problem set to keep him out for LONGER than initially thought.
The initial 4-5 week injury has now been extended to 8 weeks.

Yeah. I just wonder if it'll be enough time for him to build up match fitness to start a few before he's gone again

And if Newcastle would bother unsettling Woltemade with that by then

          Still some time away though

Fun side effect: Wolte gets subbed off often, meaning Gordon moves up to CF late in a few more game 🙂

Not sure how often that will happen.

            - His match fitness/sharpness gets better after each game.
            - Game state will obviously impact tactics/subs.
            - more likely Osula will play CF than Gordon imo

Just realised I'm 0.2m short of getting Gabriel.

    - which of the Arsenal full backs do you prefer... (Or just go with Saliba) ?

Timber spends more time on the pitch, so I'd say him

And it seems White is slightly(?) further away from starting than MLS

Think fullbacks will be rotated as the backups aren’t bad enough to stay on the bench, I’d go Saliba

      Ha - thanks

Having a rough start this year so might as well gamble on Timber than go for the safe pick!

Maresca: "Cole is still out. Trev is suspended. To say all the names, it's complicated, as we have eight out." Adds no further update on Palmer -- says there is a meeting this week.

      Potentially the 8 players out

Palmer, Delap, Santos, Essugo, Colwill, Fofana, Tosin and Chalobah (suspended)

        Could one be Pedro?

Sure, that’s why I added the caveat of “potentially"

          Pedro did train yesterday
