Two weekend goals have caused Bryan Mbeumo (£8.2m) to be the most-bought Fantasy Premier League (FPL) player in the run-up to Gameweek 10. By Wednesday afternoon, he’s already reached 750,000 purchases.

However, while he’s ahead of costlier Manchester United teammate Bruno Fernandes (£8.9m) for points, committing to the Cameroon international isn’t a straightforward decision.

Using basic numbers, deeper stats from our Members Area and some additional context, let’s try to determine which midfielder is best.

RECENT FORM

It’s not just Mbeumo’s brace, but also his Gameweek 8 goal at Anfield, which followed an assist against Sunderland. Whereas Fernandes has only one attacking return over the last four Gameweeks.

During this period, Mbeumo dominates his colleague for both goals and points, while both have created the same number of big chances (two).

[GAMEWEEKS

FPL POINTSATTEMPTSSHOTS ON

xG (DELTA)xGI (DELTA)
FERNANDES14104291.54 (-1.54)2.17 (-1.17)
MBEUMO3286471.05 (+1.95)1.82 (+2.18)

Fernandes’ shots are more about quantity than quality, as Mbeumo makes up for his fewer efforts by having a high accuracy (85.7%).

Yet here we have a case of overachievement versus underachievement when it comes to expected goals (xG) and expected goal involvement (xGI) tallies.

Despite the worse FPL output from Gameweek 6, Fernandes has still outdone Mbeumo for both. Still, it’s worth remembering that the latter, when at Brentford, had 2024/25’s biggest xG Delta (+7.74), showing a recent history of beating the data.

    So if there’s a DGW16 and blank in GW17 for one or two teams, it means we all use the same chips at the same time again

    When the addition of extra chips was meant to bring more variety to the game…

      A lot of "engaged" managers have used their TC and BB. The only chip majority will use is FH.

    Eddie Nketiah could face another spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury in Crystal Palace's Carabao Cup win over Liverpool. #CPFC

    https://www.newsshopper.co.uk/sport/25582440.eddie-nketiah-suffers-hamstring-injury-liverpool/

    “We gave Jean-Philippe Mateta a rest,” said Glasner. “But unfortunately, we had to bring him on at half time because Eddie Nketiah injured his hamstring again.

    “Eddie’s injury is really tough, especially for him. It’s the next one after he missed the whole of pre-season and the start of the season. Hopefully, it is not too serious.”

        2 is going to give you more bench points and benching headaches, unless there is some sort of perfect rotation.

      Good moves if I was going triple up I would have a plan for 5-6 weeks to get back to a double or less. Lots of other teams going to have fixtures too.

    2 FT’s remaining. Already done Gyokeres to Mateta.
    Next move will be bringing in Gabriel..
    Should it be for:
    A) Virgil
    B) Cucurella

    Raya
    Virgil - Munoz - Cucurella - Senesi
    Stach - Semenyo - Gordon - Bruno
    Haaland - Mateta

    Dubravka - Reijnders - Andersen - Muniz

      Probably in for Cucu. I am going to hold VVD for the fixtures. Might not be the best call but they got to turn this mess around at some stage.

      I have Virgil and even though he has been very frustrating, there have been some good signs. When Liverpool was chasing in last game you would have expected attacking player to be subbed in. However, our commentator didn't understand Gomez coming to the field and was genuinely surprised. I knew that it meant Virgil playing number 9. He has historically been better with headers than likes of Maguire or VdV. With fixture turn also coming, I'd sell

    With the TC chip still available, I'm leaning towards removing/delaying the Arsenal triple defence setup this GW and keeping the option open to switch Gyokeres to Saka later

      The main problem with Arsenal def triple up is that there are many other good defenders. Saka hasn't historically been explosive and TC Gabriel is worth considering. I can see scenes here when game is won and Saka lets Gyo to take the pen.

    How does this looks? Starting 11 and bench order correct?
    Ekitike could be Mateta for a hit but waiting on Isak injury news.

    Gabriel Timber Burn

    Semenyo Sarr Caicedo Foden

    Haaland Ekitike Woltemade

    Dub Virgil Reijnders Senesi

        Yeah I might have to consider utd options and if I do he is the one. They have been bad for so long I need to see a bit more consistency to go there. Also I need to get out of the mind set of planning moves weeks in advance and be prepared to change the plan.

    Hi,

    Can you please advice with 3 transfers ?

    I scenario
    Gyokeres -> Mateta
    Caicedo -> Rice
    Tarkowski -> Munoz

    II scenario
    Caicedo -> Sarr
    Tarkowski -> Lacroix

    III scenario
    J. Pedro -> Mateta
    Caicedo -> Enzo
    Tarkowski -> Guehi

    Which scenario can you advice or maybe different moves should I consider ?

    Many thanks

    Maresca: “It’s a stupid red card. Delap should avoid that”.

    “After the yellow card, I told him four or five times to stay calm. When he is on the pitch, he sometimes plays the game for himself and struggles to see the others around him”, says via @BobbyVincentFL.

    Delap fallen to 6.2m...interested potentially soon.

      Worth adding Schar/Burn to take advantage of West Ham’s non defending?

      Eze or Rice?

      Haaland TBC but I’m guessing he will be fine for the weekend.

      Is Minteh a wasted pick? Can be up to Cunha value instead.

      Think Newcastle will concede so I'd definitely go for a Roefs 10 pointer or even Ballard to try and spike a 17 pointer.

      Also prefer another mid over Eze - he's so peripheral and Burnley are no mugs at home.

      Someone on pens like Enzo or Bruno.

      1. Count of Monte Hristo

        You think Pope > Roefs is a better option? Roefs has been majestic right enough.

        How about triple Arsenal defence instead of Eze? Inclined to agree with you on Eze and Arsenal being pragmatic is can easily be a Trossard, Rice, defender goal as opposed to Eze.

        Mbeumo + Bruno you like?

        Not keen on Chelsea at all just now. Not seen them win a single penalty so I doubt Enzo will even take any before Palmer is back.

          Yes, would 100% do Pope to Roefs.

          Yeah triple arsenal defence is 18 poinst + baps + attacking returns + defcons banked. Would 100% do that. Maybe play 4-4-2 with Eze replaced by Calafiori.

          Bruno is a good pick this week I feel but it's more of a gut feeling.

      When Luke was bigging him up at the start of the season on Blackbox I checked his numbers and found in something like 25 games out of 38, he blanked. I guess he’s the definition of a feast or famine player if ever there was one.

          I’d actually be tempted to keep that midfield. It’s sound.

      Yes it's time. Been staring particularly at Semenyo for a couple of weeks now. Was suddenly accepted that he's become an elite finisher. Is it not just as likely he went on a 6 game hot streak and will regress to the mean at some point.

      I'm giving him 2 more games and will decide then.

        This. Which means he'll score four the match after I get rid.

    Taking a -4 to switch out some deadwood and switch Gyorkores > Gabriel

    Anderson,Xavi Simons,Gyorkores > Gabriel,Sarr,Woltemade -4?

      Good moves, should pay off quite quickly. Unless Gyökeres and Xavi start firing in which case it will be “WTF were you thinking?”

        Yup always the risk. I’ve been patient enough with Xavi and Gyorkores .

        Gabriel is killing me every week.

          Aye, I got rid of Xavi a couple of weeks back and also brought in Gabriel the other night for Calafiori. I couldn’t bear to watch another Arsenal match without owning him.

    Gyokeres + J.Pedro + Gordon to Mateta + Wolt + Mbeumo for a hit?
    Yes or No?

      Don't under the urgency to get Mbeumo for a hit, with 2 tricky away games coming, both of which United could lose. Would rather get him for free in GW12.

        FOMO is stronger than the lure of the ring of power. I think I’ll get on board, choo choo!

      I would take this opportunity to take money out of the forwards and move to def and mid so one of Mateta or Wolt to Kroupi
