Before the rumoured bedlam that will erupt with the release of the Manchester City teamsheet, we’ve got a more low-key start to Gameweek 23.

West Ham United v Sunderland gets us underway at 12.30pm GMT.

TEAM NEWS

The team news is fairly straightforward in east London, with West Ham unsurprisingly unchanged from their 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

El Hadji Malick Diouf has returned from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) but has to settle for a place on the bench. Ollie Scarles keeps his place at left-back.

Lucas Paqueta‘s absence was confirmed by Nuno Espirito Santo on Thursday.

Something that Regis Le Bris didn’t do on the same day was divulge information about Granit Xhaka.

The Swiss international, one of just four Fantasy midfielders who were ever-present starters this season, misses out through injury.

Eliezer Mayenda takes his place.

That’s the only change from Gameweek 22.

The Black Cats have two of their own returning AFCON representatives on the bench, namely Habib Diarra and Chemsdine Talbi.

The Gameweek 23 matches are a re-run of the opening weekend of the season. In the reverse fixture of this encounter, Sunderland beat West Ham 3-0 on Wearside.

LINE-UPS

West Ham XI: Areola, Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Mavropanos, Scarles, Soucek, Fernandes, Bowen, Pablo, Summerville, Castellanos.

Subs: Hermansen, Walker-Peters, Kilman, Ward-Prowse, Wilson, Diouf, Magassa, Potts, Kante.

Sunderland XI: Roefs, Mukiele, Ballard, Alderete, Reinildo, Hume, Sadiki, Le Fee, Mundle, Mayenda, Brobbey.

Subs: Patterson, O’Nien, Geertruida, Cirkin, Rigg, Diarra, Adingra, Isidor, Talbi.

Should have started Haaland. 30 minutes of him would be fine. If he gets a full rest, my cheap defender who I now started would come in anyway. The nightmare scenario is a cameo with him playing just a few minutes at the end of the game but it's unlikely that Pep will use Haaland to run down the clock. Dang it. Wish I hadn't panicked.

F this season. Why does the moron pep play Haaland against Exeter and Bodø Glimt to rest him in thr PL

    1. I have no Wirtz

Because in Pep world Haaland and Semenyo are interchangeable. Pep does not comprehend number 9.

I'm pretty relaxed about the Haaland benching. Plenty of games where he hasn't scored at the 60 mark. He comes on and scores in a tight game and it could easily be a 7 point goal

Leak isn't confirmed until team sheets released.

And even if benched, Haaland could still come on and score.

And even if completely rested, you have a VC and a first bench 🙂

      Foden... who cares.

    Interesting week already for me

Was off grid for most of it, did some quick checks of flags and the European mid week results/lineups this arvo in the car home (about 8hrs before deadline) and decided since Ake got rested (no flag) to get rid of Nico.

Unexpectedly got a chance to get online about 30 mins before the deadline and saw Ake injured. Wasted transfer.

But then got the Man City leaks tidbit and went Foden to Semenyo (C) for -4. Kept Haaland in for the 1pt or late goal outcome,

Season is absolutely merked anyway, so none of this really matters.

I’m on 4FTs next week and I’m considering:
    Ekitike > Mane
    Gordon > Bruno F
    Acheampong > Chalobah
    O’Reilly > Timber

Leaves my team like this, yay or nay?

    Verbruggen
    Gabriel, Timber, Chalobah
    Palmer, Bruno, Foden, Enzo, Anderson
    Haaland, Kroupi

    Dubravka, Keane, Andersen, Mane

How do so many people have access to team news leaks before the deadline? Haaland below 190% EO for the first time in ages and its against Wolves at home? Hate this unbalanced pos game where some people clearly have information that others dont. Joke

    1. Sir Michael Taker
      • 11 Years
      5 months, 14 days ago

If they had deadlines like the challenge game they could pretty much kill the impact of leaks. They must have the ability to implement it but are choosing not to for some reason

      1. x.jim.x
        • 11 Years
        5 months, 14 days ago

Probably a couple of reasons - they don't want to alienate the core userbase (casuals) as only the uber-nerds will be dedicated enough to change their teams throughout the weekend, and they don't want to spend the money on tech upgrades. There's only about 1m who play Challenge and the teams are smaller, so the processing demand is much lower.

Haaland 173% EO on the top 10k implies that a lot of people didn't have the information either.

You feel a lot did because a lot within this site's users probably were here at the right time - not a fair representation of the game as a whole

      1. Brosstan
        • 11 Years
        5 months, 14 days ago

The 173 EO indicates that a large amount of people DID have the info though. He has had about 190% EO regardless of opposition for weeks and now in the plummest of fixtures a significant amount of managers remove the armband?

          • Fantasy Football Scout Member

It implies less than 9% of players benched him. It would be maximum double this if they simply took the armband off him but started him.

      2. martynteresa
        5 months, 14 days ago

Biggsy, where do you get info on the top 10K

Leak - my next 2 transfers

        Bruno G to Salah
        Haaland to Ektike

GW25 to wildcard time in the 30' Liverpool have better fixtures, just

Haaland blanked in 7 of last 11 GW's so I am giving him the Grand Salah
Everyone sold Salah first half of season for under performing so why not the robot

        I figure a Salah/Ekitike will outperform BrunoG/Robot.

Now there's a differential if you are looking for one

Tbf leaks have always been a thing, teams spying to get info that can help them before kick off isn't anything new.

But with the popularity of FPL, it's probably gotten worse, oh and social media hype/revenue whatever you want to call it.

    4. martynteresa

Usually they come from Twitter. Usually they are parroted here (which is where I got it). The challenge is their reliability. The one at 10.50am this morning came from an account which tracks their reliability at about 96%. Others have been wrong.

I was here for the leak this time but it's an absolute joke for a number of reasons

Anyone with responsibilities/a life (Kids, jobs) are put at a disadvantage as they are not huddled around their computer/phone always before a deadline.
Secondly, this is supposed to be a game played worldwide, people on other time zones are at an instant disadvantage with the leaks

I will sound like a right moaner here but years ago there was some element of real courage when making moves, nothing was handed out to you on a plate and you had to think of moves. It would feel good to actually make a move and for it to come off (E.g. the most captained player was benched and you captained someone else as you had a feeling he might be benched). Now it's basically handed to you

I don't want to hear anyone celebrating their non-haaland captains this week, if you do then you really need to check yourself because being spoonfed news like that and making a change to your team based on that news doesn't make you a genius

Totally agree. I got lucky this week that the wife and kids disappeared off at 10.15am. Next week maybe I've got my hands full. It's not fair, particularly for such a global game.

How have you been posting here for 15 years and not realised yet that there's never an even playing field in any competition. There will always be people who have more time to watch full games, pore over stats, look for leaks, etc - that's without even mentioning the ones that actually work in the industry who get team news early.

The fact that you have time to post frequently on this website is an advantage over somebody who doesn't. You all need to get a grip and face the reality that you will never win this game.

Ideally Bruno Mbeumo Wirtz but the midfield is cramped with many cheaper options: Enzo Rice Ndiaye Wilson Semenyo Rogers ...

      Wirtz fixtures get worse

Could go either way at Bournemouth

Hopefully 3-3 and an Ekitike hat trick!

Mbeumo as Utd's next 2 fixtures after this weekend are much better than Liverpool's
