Ahead of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League (UCL) last-16 ties, we heard from the managers of Liverpool, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.

We’ll round up the key injury updates below.

LIVERPOOL

One notable absentee from the 21-man squad heading to Istanbul to face Galatasaray was goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

The Brazilian trained on Monday, pre-flight, but felt some discomfort near the session’s end.

“Ali, of course, was in the session – as many people could see – but unfortunately, he felt something towards the end of the session.

“And it was, how do you say this… people looked at it and we decided and he decided together that it wasn’t good enough to play tomorrow. And then it’s of no use travelling.

“There’s definitely a chance [he’ll be back on Sunday], yeah, because we don’t expect it to be a big thing, but it was too much [for him] to be available for tomorrow.” – Arne Slot on Alisson

Federico Chiesa (illness) also stayed at home.

“Federico was also out of the session. He felt unwell last night, so that’s why he wasn’t training with us today and not travelling with us.” – Arne Slot on Federico Chiesa

Alexander Isak (ankle), Stefan Bajcetic (hamstring), Wataru Endo (foot), Conor Bradley (knee) and Giovanni Leoni (knee) remain out.

NEWCASTLE UNITED

After some slight concern over Anthony Gordon (ankle), Joelinton (load management) and Jacob Murphy (neck) in the FA Cup fifth-round defeat to Manchester City, all three took part in training on Monday.

A small outbreak of illness isn’t causing too much concern, either.

“I think no fresh injuries. We’ve got a little bit of illness again in the camp. It’s been sort of hanging around in recent days. We’ll have a player go down, but they’re recovering quite quickly. So, I anticipate, fingers crossed, we won’t lose anybody.” – Eddie Howe

The Barcelona match comes too soon for Lewis Miley (thigh), while Fabian Schar (ankle), Bruno Guimaraes (hamstring) and Emil Krafth (knee) are out longer term.

Tino Livramento made his return from a hamstring injury as a substitute on Saturday but it still might be too soon for a start for the full-back.

“He probably hasn’t done enough training for me to feel 100% confident that he’s in that best physical moment, especially for such a big game, to start.

“But he’s in our squad, and anyone who’s in that position obviously is in contention to play. It’s a delicate balance with Tino at the moment.

“He trained again this morning and he trained again on Friday and is in good spirits. He’s in a good place. He’s a massive player for us; it’s great to have him back. Obviously, I’ve got to try and get the team selection right.” – Eddie Howe on Tino Livramento

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Neither Djed Spence (calf) nor Radu Dragusin (minor injury) were involved in Gameweek 29 but Spurs’ defensive duo were back in training ahead of the trip to Atletico Madrid.

Cristian Romero is also now available after a four-game domestic ban.

And while Micky van de Ven will be suspended in Gameweek 30, he’s free to play in Europe in midweek.

As for injuries, Wilson Odobert (knee), Destiny Udogie (hamstring), Lucas Bergvall (ankle), Ben Davies (ankle), Rodrigo Bentancur (hamstring), Mohammed Kudus (thigh), James Maddison (knee) and Dejan Kulusevski (knee) remain out.

Yves Bissouma and Souza are ineligible for the Champions League, too.

“We are happy that Romero is back, Djed is back, Bissouma is not and Souza, because of the rules of the Champions League. So, the players are coming back, that’s important, [because] it’s the first time that I’m here and we’ll have, let’s say, available the players to play in defence, the players who usually play.” – Igor Tudor

Igor Tudor also confirmed that Richarlison will start on Tuesday.

Got bored and messed around with some (very) early WC32 drafts that seem attainable and get you 15 doublers, even if neither of the Leeds/Bournemouth or West Ham/Everton matches get pulled back into GW33.

If City beat Liverpool (0.1m ITB for me):
    Verbruggen (Dubravka)
    Gabriel, Timber, O'Reilly (Thiaw, Esteve)
    Saka, Semenyo, Gordon, Enzo, Mitoma
    Haaland, Joao Pedro (Welbeck)

If Liverpool beat City (0.3m ITB for me):
    Verbruggen (Dubravka)
    Gabriel, Timber, VVD (O'Reilly, Richards)
    Semenyo, Wirtz, Gordon, Sarr, Mitoma
    Haaland, Joao Pedro (Strand Larsen)

Esteve in the first draft isn't great, and you'd need a plan to get Bruno back, but I honestly don't think either of those look bad. Brighton have Burnley in GW32 so it's actually good time to jump onto them.

Also, looking at the fixture ticker, Arsenal, Brighton, Newcastle, Chelsea and City all have decent runs from GW35-38, so I don't think you'd be screwed if you stick with them to the end. I think a lot of people will get cold feet and move to FH33 but either way still seems viable imo.

Looks viable for that GW given that City and United both have tricky GW33 fixtures, but you would need FTs to get City players back for their DGW against Palace which would be GW36 if Pool double against The Eagles in GW33. Spare FTs would also come in handy for Palace players for GW36 with the City draft.

I have somehow retained top spot in my FPL until the last week, despite a poor few gameweeks.

No JP and keeping robot seem to be the reason.

So now, the players in and around me no longer have Robot and have spread the funds. Would you kept hold as a differential and hope for the best?

Like many, I also burned my TC on big Gab for that carcrash.

Without Haaland I've narrowed it down to four choices - Semenyo/Ekitike/J.Pedro/BrunoF which isn't really narrowed at all. Good point about Chelsea playing PSG..

      *** City Schedule ***
      Real Madrid (a)
      72 hours
      West Ham (a)
      72 hours
      Real Madrid (h)
      356.5 hours
      Arsenal (-)

      *** Liverpool Schedule ***
      Galatasaray (a)
      118.75 hours
      Tottenham (h)
      75.5 hours
      Galatasaray (h)
      64.5 hours
      Brighton (a)

Man City will have to sleep on the plane tomorrow night coming back from Spain, not having access to their home recovery facilities. Farke said in an interview recently that travel impacts recovery, especially during quick turnarounds, he likes players to sleep in their own beds. Man City have to travel from Spain to Manchester to London in a quick turnaround (minimum 72 hr period). So we may see rotation for the West Ham away game.

The period either side of the Spurs game is comfy for Liverpool. The long travel to Turkey is covered by a long rest period and they play Spurs at home, followed by a nice 75.5 hours before another home game in Liverpool against Galatasaray. They shouldn't need to rotate at all against Spurs. If there is rotation, it is far more likely to come in the Brighton game, or the 2nd leg if they build a healthy lead tonight.

I'm considering Haaland -> Ekitike this week because I can see Haaland rested against West Ham...

This is why I ask it - it’s not really about the captaincy but who people think scores more this GW. Selling Haaland to Ekitike this GW helps my team the following GWs for sure.
