Chip Strategy

As most of you will be aware, the second set of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) chips is now available.

Everyone now has another Wildcard, Free Hit, Triple Captain and Bench Boost to use between Gameweeks 20-38.

Any unused ones from the first half of the season are now lost.

WHEN ARE THE BLANK/DOUBLE GAMEWEEKS?

Gameweeks 31 and 34 clash with the EFL Cup final and FA Cup semis, respectively. Both are Blank Gameweeks.

Gameweek 33 will be a double for six teams. Gameweek 36 may also be a double for Manchester City and Crystal Palace.

Furthermore, there’s the potential for the FA Cup final to interrupt Gameweek 37.

THOUGHTS ON USING THE CHIPS

Chip strategy will be a moving picture in the weeks ahead but just at an initial glance, saving the Bench Boost and Triple Captain for Gameweeks 33/36 may be the play.

A Free Hit could be used to traverse the biggest Blank Gameweek (which should be Gameweek 34)

Alternatively, the chip could be used more aggressively in a Double Gameweek. This enables you to select 11 players who play twice.

The Wildcard is less Gameweek-dependent and best saved for when your squad most needs an overhaul (ie players who are injured, out of form or dropped).

However, it can also be deployed in conjunction with another chip strategy. For instance, a Wildcard can be used to set up a Bench Boost (ie making sure you’ve got 15 starters) or played immediately after one (taking the funds out of your bench and into the starting XI).

Gameweek 32 is one option for the Wildcard. Managers can ‘dead-end’ their teams into Blank Gameweek 31 (getting rid of EFL Cup finalists) before overhauling their squad the following week in readiness for the Blanks/Doubles ahead.

All season I've seen CC accounts talk about Chelsea defence, even this week the FPL Challenge """expert""" recommended Sanchez. Do these people watch footy at all, because every time I watch Chelsea they look ropey as anything.

Cucurella a big miss, but fixtures create form and Chelsea have the best fixtures

      1. MJF

Fair enough no Cucurella last night, but was he in the side when they collapsed at Leeds, conceded tons of chances away to Forest, lost at Man Utd etc? I mean second half v Villa the other night they were more open than Bonnie Blue in Bali.

Ok but West Ham, Wolves and Burnley are really bad

True and I will want a Chelea attacker for sure. I just feel like people see the name of the club not their form, similar story with Man Utd.

              Fixtures create form

And if they can get CS while looking bad, imagine what happens when they look good

Seen almost 12 to 14 of their games this season. Even when they kept a clean sheet, it looked extremely lucky.

      1. MJF
        6 months, 15 days ago

Yeah I've felt the same. Haven't seen that many, but the only time I watched them and they looked pretty convincing was down to 10 v Arsenal when they dug in, otherwise they look dodgy - they love giving it away in their own half too.

Attachment theory imo. Chelsea had great defences containing Terry, Ivanovic, Cole, etc and some folks hold onto it in their thinking.

I really hate my team but playing the WC so early and before the transfer window has even began is crazy right?

Chopping list: Minteh*, Keane*, Cunha, Raya, Timber, Lacroix, Gudmundsson, Guiu

Shopping list: Bowen, Gabriel, Chalobah, Guehi, Alderete, Roefs, Paqueta, De Cuyper

    Raya
    Timber, Lacroix, Andersen
    Saka, Foden, Cunha, Bruno G,
    Haaland, Eketike

      Raya - unlucky, keep
      Dubrav - keep
      Timber - keep
      Lacroix > Gabriel
Keane > need to move on but you have coverage
Gud > bench warmer, plays 90 mins
      Saka - keep
Foden > Cherki but not a priority
Cunha > everyone is in same boat
Bruno G - keep, home fixtures
      Minteh - unlucky
      Haaland - keep
      Eketike - keep
      Guiu - bench warmer

At best you need to do Raya, Lacroix > Pickford(?), Gabs
If Rice is fit Saka, Lacroix > Rice, Gabs

Should I do Minteh to Garner over playing Gudmundsson this GW with no bench at all?

Or replace Keane and if so then with who?

Minteh*, Keane*, Cunha, Raya, Timber, Lacroix, Gudmundsson, Guiu

      Can't argue with that.

All Brighton players are firm no-no
Moyes not helping us on Keane - could be out long term, we don't know.
Cunha hype was short lived wasn't it?
      Raya wastes an Arsenal slot
Timber is pricey and his returns other than a couple of weeks have been poor
Lacroix could be a sell. Palace struggling with fixture congestion and a small squad.
Other 2 are bench players, but there are better ones.
