Captain Sensible

Backed by millions of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers in Gameweek 32, our pickBruno Fernandes (£10.3m), notched an assist on Monday night against Leeds United.

He’ll struggle to get a look-in this week as attention instead turns to the ‘doublers’ in Gameweek 33.

Six teams will play twice and consequently form the basis of much of the captaincy discussion. Erling Haaland (£14.5m) is the standout pick at first glance but struggling for form in the league, is there a case to look beyond the Norwegian? That’s what we’re considering in ‘Captain Sensible’.

In this piece, we will assess the on-site captaincy poll, analyse myriad player and team statistics, consult the Rate My Team (RMT) points projections, and settle on a top three for the armband, ahead of Saturday’s 11am BST deadline.

Captaincy Poll

In something of a throwback, Haaland boasts a clear lead in the Fantasy Football Scout captaincy poll. The Man City striker has picked up over 50% of votes cast ahead of matches against Arsenal and Burnley in the Double Gameweek.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£5.6m) sits well back in second place and is the only other player to garner more than 10% support, backed by just over 14% of site users. The Leeds frontman hasn’t scored in the league since Gameweek 25, so the volume of votes may be something to do with him being first in the poll and benefitting from a lot of accidental clicks…

Elsewhere, Antoine Semenyo (£8.2m) and Cole Palmer (£10.5m) sit in third and fourth, respectively. Semenyo has scored five goals for City since January, while Palmer can boast hat-tricks against both of his Double Gameweek opponents.

O’Reilly has to be in contention. I understand it was mentioned in article.

Seems foolish not to captain Haaland but I’m all for a differential captain

Quite simply, most will captain Haaland.

If you want to catch up, it's probably best to captain someone else, but there's more risk with a defender as captain.

They NEED Neco v Arsenal but can play RAN v Burnley
Also a chance he doesn’t play at all OR goes off injured again
        Way too risky imo

Minutes not secure, it’s quite punty but O’Reilly could go nuts. It just feels like you’re relying on more things which have a lower chance to happen

they have the cup semi if city don't win v arsenal likes of Haaland, Semenyo, o'reilly, cherri at risk v burnley and going forwards

    So…
I have 3 SGW players from last weeks WC
    Verb/Darlow
    NOR/VanHecke/Hill/Senesi/Bijol
    Palmer/Tavernier/Semenyo/BRUNO/MGW
    Haaland/Welbeck/BOWEN

    Should I…
    A. Stick to the plan… Bowen to DCL
    B. Bowen to JPedro due to Utds defensive woes
    C. MGW (home to BUR) to Neto
    D. MGW to Okafor

Nouri is pretty risky minutes wise for a double for me. You not confident O’Reilly plays both if so go safer with Guehi or Nunez?
      Also does Wellbeck play both?
But if you make the 2 changes I suggest you just end up the same as everyone else …

Madness to leave Bruno in my starting 11 on Fh - GroB currently first sub

I have him first sub, with 11 dgw starters, but I’m still considering starting him.

Yeah i've FH so got all dgw starters just have the urge to start him and grob first sub but is it an unnecessary risk. Although Chelsea don't look the most convincing at the back

    2. Mr Turnip 1
      • 1 Year

It is madness. There are many players who score at least half as many points as Bruno, and thus will likely score more in a DGW. Pick a doubler on FH, Bruno shouldn’t even be in the squad

If leaving him out of the starting 11 is madness I must be bonkers cause I took him out on WC. With the value lost probably won’t get him back this season. Not saying it was the right decision just trying to gain at the end of season and try something different.

    Wasted BB long time ago.
Does this team make sense on WC
Get 11 doubles out and 3 Arsenal on the bench will FH 34. Could have CP for double too but with them still in Europe their double could see rotation. Lots ITB for any suggested changes. Thanks

    Darlow

    O’Reilly Struijk Van Hecke

    Semenyo Palmer Enzo Tavernier

    Haaland Pedro DCL

    Dubravka Gabriel Timber Rice

I have 4 mil ITB cash aint an issue. You are right but I am stubborn. Lost about .8 taking him so now might persist in being stubborn
Actually ate the loss and put Bruno back in for Enzo and still can have Rice. Looks sweet now even if no cash ITB. Thanks for responses.

I'm on the same strategy, arguably going slightly more differential than you but hopefully we can go a bit crazy in FH34:

      Verbruggen
      Hill, Senesi, O'Reilly
      Semenyo, Hinshelwood, Scott, Okafor
      Håland, Welbeck, João Pedro

      Kelleher; B Fernandes, Gudmundsson, Gabriel

Can afford Palmer over Okafor but haven't been impressed with the former and this would give me lots in the bank in GW35, plus I like Leeds' fixtures. Saw a Chelsea fan calling a recent Palmer performance "worse than Bakayoko vs Watford." If you know you know.

No bad picks there. The cash is only good if you have free transfers to go with it.
We could say the same for Haaland as Palmer.
I am 200k rank right now my 11 going up against a bench boost - I lose.
Any chance of 100k I need to go against Haaland and hope he fails - yikes. Don’t even know who that might be maybe Palmer 🙂

Help me out FPL conspirators! My rival is a well researched player, what's his probable plan here?

He has WC and BB left. He's played FH.

He has 8 DGWers for this gameweek, with 1FT. He has 7 non-blanks next week.

I'm guessing he won't use WC this week, as he doesn't have FH to cover the blanks next week. So maybe FH next week?

    1. Albrightondknight
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member
      • 11 Years
      3 months, 4 days ago

To beat the rival just score more points than them during the season - what weeks you gain doesn’t matter just as long as there are enough of them 🙂
Play your own game to what you think maximizes points.

As to your rival without FH then WC this week is not an option. If the lead on you is enough they make decide to take hits this week and next. They are probably going WC 35 and BB 36 - that also means you might be up against a TC this week.

This is my team for GW 34 if I free hit this week.

    Darlow*
    Gabriel, VVD, Thiaw
    Bruno, Gordon, Wilson, Dango
    Thiago, Bowen

Bench: Dubravka*, Van Hecke*, Hill*, Welbeck*

I can get 10 out for GW 34 and could make 1/2 transfers to get 11 (e.g. GK change)

What's the best play here? it seems like free hit is the best option as I am covered for the main players for 34 although as I have all chips maybe option 2 is better?

    1. Free hit 33, Wildcard 35, bench boost/triple c 36 but then 1 chip to be played 37/38 - not sure if we get another dgw?
    2. Wildcard 33, Free hit 34, Bench boost 35, triple c 36

FWIW, if I were to FH34 I'd be looking at
              - Tarkowski + Garner
              - double ARS defence
              - Bowen
              - Munoz, Sarr, maybe Henderson
              - Igor Thiago
              - Bruno F
              - double SUN defence (Roefs, Ballard i.e.)

              Would give you
              Roefs
              Ballard, Tarkowski, ARS, ARS, Munoz
              Sarr, Bruno, Garner
              Thiago, Bowen

Only when playing TC I believe.
FH counts as your 1 transfer effectively

    I’m on BB33 and FH34.
Saliba to Senesi gives me 14 doublers and Bruno F.
Or roll the FT so I have 2FT in 35?
Feel like Saliba gets a 2 this week, where as Senesi could get 8+
    Cheers

Depends on your other defenders, but BOU fixtures 35-38 aren't that bad..

Got the template doublers, which might do for a couple weeks. Worst case Saliba or other Arsenal comes back on 35

Got the template City/Leeds/Bournemouth defence for this GW.

I decided to add Lacroix when I pulled the trigger on a WC before he got injured night.

He'd be benched this week and I'll FH34 but needed for a BB35.

    Keep him in?

    Or get rid?

On holidays so need some confirmation it’s just GTG BB? Stick with boring Haaland (c)?

    Verb/Darlow
    Gab/NOR/Senesi/VanH/Hill
    Palmer/Bruno/Semenyo/Mitoma/Tav
    Haaland/JPedro/DCL

      Always drink bottled water.
Make sure the bottled water you buy is 100% from a legit source a d not some scally filling up the Evian from the local toilet system.
They don't care about you or your loved ones.

The size of the bottles is irrelevant as long as they are sourced from reputable retailers in that particular area of our planet.

    Wellbeck, Haaland, Bowen.

Too stupid not to replace Bowen with JPedro? I'm rooting for Chelsea not to win but might be a fool's errand.
