We’ve put together our Scout Picks ‘bus team’ for Gameweek 3 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

The upcoming Scout Squad nominations, as well as the pre-match press conferences, will help shape our finalised picks.

However, this early draft, at the very least, offers an insight into the players and teams who will be under consideration.

There are, as ever, certain restrictions for our squad:

  • An £83.0m overall budget for our starting XI
  • An overall squad limit of £100.0m
  • No more than three players per team

A reminder, too, that the Scout Picks are for the upcoming Gameweek in isolation.

GAMEWEEK 3 FIXTURES

Using our free-to-all ticker, here is the Gameweek 3 difficulty ranking – although unbeaten Hull City may have something to say about this…

THE LIKELY LADS

FPL notes: Guehi OOP, Haaland blank + Anderson update 4

Although he has a trickier fixture away at Everton, Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) has to be here after Sunday’s epic haul. It sent a reminder to FPL managers about why he should never be easily overlooked, nor confidently sold. The fact that Everton have conceded a league-second-worst 10 big chances in the first two Gameweeks is also in Bruno’s favour.

Not that there’ll be any captaincy debate this week, as Erling Haaland (£15.5m) surely dominates the armband discussion, at home to Coventry City. In fact, the main questions are whether it’s time to activate Triple Captain, and which Manchester City colleagues should complete a triple-up.

Antoine Semenyo (£8.5m) very likely starts, as he always does, but Phil Foden (£7.0m) and Rayan Cherki (£7.6m) are cheaper – and the latter is setting FPL pulses racing. As this is a one-week lineup, we’ll go with Cherki – but be careful about permanently buying the Frenchman.

He didn’t start in Gameweek 1, and spoke on Friday night about nearly being substituted at half-time. It’s a sign of Cherki’s quality that he’s already on two goals and two assists, but the possible purchase of Cody Gakpo (£7.0m) could ultimately mean he and Foden will be fighting for the same ‘number 10’ role.

FPL notes: Cherki

Sticking with Enzo Maresca’s lot, there’ll be some defensive coverage too. Ideally, an ‘out of position’ Nico O’Reilly (£6.5m), but Josko Gvardiol (£5.6m) saves a bit of money and, in fairness, has delivered an attacking return in both outings.

IN CONTENTION

FPL pre-season: Thiago + Schade both score twice, Sangare impact 2

Gameweek 1’s top scorer, Maxim De Cuyper (£4.6m), remained on the wing against Chelsea. Not that he was involved in Brighton and Hove Albion’s three goals, but next up is Leeds United and Coventry. On these days, it’ll be hard to resist such out-of-position appeal.

Sticking with the Seagulls, Pascal Gross (£5.5m) helped them scrape a respectable result, having found themselves 3-0 down after 32 minutes. He assisted an own goal before heading in a stoppage-time consolation to reach 13 points.

But it’s his only shot so far, and Leeds are tough to break down. The Whites have allowed only two big chances.

Meanwhile, Dominik Szoboszlai (£7.0m) is ticking along nicely for owners. Scoring from the spot and securing a defensive contribution (DefCon) reward nicely showcases his ‘all-roundedness’. Liverpool attackers need considering, as Ipswich Town have just conceded five at Old Trafford. Could the as-yet-unpriced Bradley Barcola tempt anyone on his debut?

We like several Brentford assets for their hosting of Sunderland. Kristoffer Ajer (£4.5m) is one of four defenders to have achieved DefCon success in both Gameweeks, while Mamadou Sangare (£5.6m) has done the same in midfield. Kevin Schade (£6.0m) already boasts eight shots inside the box, and Igor Thiago (£8.0m) is the biggest expected goals (xG, -1.81) underachiever. But perhaps picking more than two of these is excessive.

In 2025/26, Thiago replaced Yoane Wissa (£6.1m) as the Bees’ main striker. The latter had an awful debut campaign at Newcastle United, but seems reinvigorated under Matthias Jaissle. He already has a goal, an assist and a price rise to his name. Just be aware that the Magpies haven’t won any of their last eight league meetings with Bournemouth.

FPL Gameweek 3 early Scout Picks: Piling up on Man City 1

Above: Recent matches between Newcastle and Bournemouth, from FotMob

On Saturday, penalty-taking Morgan Gibbs-White (£7.9m) hauled at Anfield, continuing the late-season form that brought seven goals in his final seven starts. The opportunity to go against an under-construction Tottenham Hotspur is tempting.

After three successive clean sheets, it’s probably still worth contemplating one Arsenal representative at the back – David Raya (£6.0m), Riccardo Calafiori (£5.6m) or the cheap-as-chips Ezri Konsa (£4.4m) – even though Chelsea have netted seven times.

The Gunners still ride high in the clean sheet odds, too…

With the Blues conceding five goals in two Gameweeks, might Bukayo Saka (£9.5m) make a late charge for the Picks, as well?

THE LONGER SHOTS

5 players who should bounce back in FPL Gameweek 2 2

Chelsea’s goalscoring form is why it’s hard to truly say no to Joao Pedro (£7.6m), despite meeting a defensive wall. He’s bagged a goal and an assist in both matches, and the Brazilian is hard to bench with such a high ownership.

Other interesting strikers include departing Blues man Nicolas Jackson (£6.5m), away to Hull City, and Gonzalo Garcia (£6.0m) at home to an increasingly poor Crystal Palace.

With Fernandes and intense Man City representation, Liverpool duo Alexander Isak (£9.0m) and Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) might be too costly. Not that the Reds are defending well anyway… they conceded twice in both outings.

Finally, the alternative goalkeeper picks to Raya are Caoimhin Kelleher (£5.0m) and Zion Suzuki (£5.0m). Villa were much better defensively on Monday night, so they may have turned a corner.

Thoughts on this triple premium WC draft? Plan would be to move Cherki to Rogers in GW4 then roll as if my life depends on it.

    Hornicek
    Cala - Konsa - Dedic - Ajer - Egan
    Bruno - Palmer - Cherki - Sangare - Slater
    Haaland - JP - Wissa

      Lots of good picks.
      Just a few thoughts
      1. Will you stay with BrunoF and Haaland long term?
      2. Ajer is amazing for the price but bad turn in fixtures soon enough. I might drop on WC and get back in short to medium term.
3.Newcastle coverage is great but you are probably going to want Rogers MGW and also some Everton NOttingham Forrest and maybe even some Fulham soon based on fixtures. This also ties into keeping BrunoF and Haaland
      4. Plan to have Cherki very short term and move to Rogers is good because City midfield is becoming more of a nightmare by the second.
      5. Near impossible to cover every fixture every week so probably best to ignore most of points 1-4 🙂

Haha nice disclaimer at the end. All fair points though. I do want MGW and but Bruno means you can't have everyone including Szob
I'm not hell bent on going with Bruno and will mull it over as I'm conscious of the mega haul recency bias.
I'm actually not convinced with Cherki and wouldn't be surprised if Foden hauls this weekend which would be typical with Cherki being bought so heavily.

    SERIOUS MUSING:
Has there ever been an EPL season with so many changes to teams’ management and players?
It seems to me that this new season has the record in recent history.

Yeah, we are a witnessing a transition. Guardiola gone, Salah gone, Liverpool in transition. Only Arsenal have stability, and David Moyes is still at Everton.

Too much money in football. Club owners get squeamish without a decent run of results and quicker to change managers than 10 years ago. Squads need to be bigger for those clubs in European competitions to get through the fixture list.

Thoughts on GW4 WC with planned GW5 BB
Also Rogers to MGW planned for GW5
Changed a bit in the last 24 hours with Tzolis off early -going triple Ars defence. I also can’t seem to trust pool assets going forward or who the hell is going to play in defence or midfield for City so here is when I am at.
Can’t risk Konsa either with the GW5 BB

    Raya Sels

    Calafiori White Dedic Aina Mykolenko

    Palmer Rogers KDH Sangare King

    Haaland Pedro Wissa

Is there good enough advantage in holding wildcard if you have Bruno and Haaland already in the squad?

    1. GreennRed
      • 14 Years
      20 days, 1 hour ago

Depends on how much the wildcard improves the points potential from remaining 13. Plenty of teams have Bruno and Haaland so a few differentials might get you some traction.

  9. BR510
    20 days, 1 hour ago

Thoughts on the wildcard? No BB so cheapest bench is fine
    Verbruggen 4.0
    Calafiori Konsa Dedic Egan Thomas
Bruno Palmer Cherki Sangare Yalcouye (4.5 BHA mid starting in the 10)
    Haaland Pedro Wissa

0.7 itb to get a second playing keeper or upgrade Thomas.

Good team. Get a 2nd keeper. Thomas could have 12 subs. Verbruggen has 1.

    Kinksy
    Guehi Calafiori Shaw
    Bruno Saka Semenyo Mbuemo
    Isak JP Thiago

Palmer, Van Ewijk, I. Sangare, Diop

    2FT 0.0 ITB

How much do I need Haaland? I feel like I quite like my team but am fearful of that COV…

I think Sangare is the best value to points imo.

I wouldnt be shocked if he outscores Anderson's season total from last year if he plays a similar number of games. I am almost certain he covers him in points per start.

It hasn't been a great start to the season so hoping gw3 is my week and then wildcard 4 really gets the points rolling.

Tzolis -> Anderson and roll the other ft? Team would then be:

    Verbruggen

    Bruno Mbeumo Szobo Anderson Gross
    Haaland(TC) DCL

    Kinsky; Brobbey, Shaw, O'Shea

Any ideas? Im currently losing to my kids which cannot go on!

    Current squad.
    Raya. Verbruggen
    White. Mykolenko. Dalot. N.Williams. Hume
    Rogers. Groß. Mbuemo. Tzolis. Gibbs-White
    João Pedro. Haaland. Mateta

    Have two free transfers.
    Thinking of:

    1. Raya, hume, Dalot, Mateta -> suzuki, de cuyper, Konsa, Marmoush. Taking -8 hit
    2. Hume or Dalot, Mateta -> de Cuyper, Wissa

1 on paper doesnt make sense to take the hit but I think Konsa will play regular as Mosquera seemed to have a knock, but ideally want to do this after the chelsea game.

Thanks to the Tz0lis debacle last night I can no longer bring Haaland economically into my team for this weekend just because the very sight of Tz0lis sitting there sandwiched in-between the likes of Bruno and MGW has me absolutely spitting feathers so he just has to go immediately.I am now consoling myself with the fact that Coventry's xGA is nearly 50% lower than the four goals they've actually conceded (admittedly one of the games was against Hull) and Saturdays game is an excellent opportunity for that to be redressed whereby City totally pummel them for 90 minutes but it ends up 1-0.

Maybe but with Eze waiting in the wings, it might only take one bad half for Arteta to make a change. Thats the consideration for me - we knew he’d have competition for his place so it was a calculated risk getting him at all

Also, is Thomas still nailed now?

Not sure. I might switch him if not. Who would you get at 4.0 instead?

Not sure. Maybe a second Hull, like Egan's DCs

    Kinsky
    Calafiori N.Williams Hall
    Fernandes Tzolis Mbuemo Szoboszlai
    Haaland DCL Pedro

    Dubravka Hughes Shaw Diop

Similar issue. If you have money in the bank, sell him for Foden. If not, maybe hold

Trying to work out how to bring in a City mid this week…

    A) Mbeumo + Van Ewijk > Foden + Hall (free)
    B) Tzolis + Ballard > Foden + Konsa/Dedic (free)

A improves the squad a bit more, B the starting XI? Risk with Konsa would be a benching and having to rely on a Coventry defender at Man City.

    Kinsky Rushworth
Calafiori Maguire Ballard Thomas Van Ewijk
    BrunoF Mbeumo Wirtz Tzolis Slater
    Haaland JP DCL

    Thanks

Comparing Tzolis with Mbeumo in this case
Foden is there in both options

i am in the same quandary and no clue what to do. chelsea are leaking goals and tzolis doesnt become bad overnight, did Eze improve the team that much yesterday?( i didnt watch the game). what did mbeumo do to deserve to be sold. I am not sure I would go for foden for a city mid with cherki's form at the moment.

Thanks. Eze was better without being great. Good player as he is, we all knew Tzolis was a minutes risk when we got him so maybe it’s time to jump off before he’s benched? Might be hasty, might be right. And yeah, reluctant to sell Mbeumo before Everton - he’d be my only route to Cherki

Tzolis was quite bad, Cash had him completely pocketed then picked up a silly YC. I think the YC was the main reason for the sub. Cash was bang up for it as well.

Eze didn't do much but he did lay an exquisite pass for Calafiori for his assist.

But no Tzolis isn't a bad player overnight and I expect him to start against Chelsea
