With two rounds of WSL Fantasy complete, attention now turns to Matchweek 3.

Our expert Joe is back to reveal his latest squad, sharing his planned transfers, key selection decisions and captaincy thoughts ahead of the deadline.

Here’s how his team is shaping up for Matchweek 3.

Matchweek 2 was a pretty chaotic one in WSL Fantasy! There were some huge scores, with Chelsea putting five past Manchester United, alongside some very unlucky blanks. Arsenal, for example, were held to a 0-0 draw by Crystal Palace despite producing 2.56 xG.

Thankfully, I came through the round well. My 95 points moved me up to 225th overall.

It’s another quick turnaround with a Friday night deadline, so here’s how I’m currently lining up for Matchweek 3 with three transfers available.

TEAM REVEAL

GOALKEEPERS

It was bad news for my goalkeeper rotation, as Fran Bentley found herself on the bench for Bristol City after just one Matchweek. Thankfully, Hannah Hampton was still able to keep a clean sheet against Manchester United.

Hampton remains a solid option, but I’m tempted to transfer Bentley out for another goalkeeper. Chiamaka Nnadozie (£5.0m) is one possibility, as she rotates well with Hampton across Matchweeks 3 and 4. However, I’ll only make that move if I have a spare transfer.

DEFENDERS

Kerstin Casparij was substituted shortly after the hour mark again this week, limiting her to two points. Those early withdrawals remain a concern, but I’m happy to keep her for now. Manchester City’s fixtures look good and her attacking potential remains high, especially as she’s taking some corners.

Playing on Friday is another bonus. I’ll know whether Casparij starts and, if she blanks, I’ll have the opportunity to substitute her.

In last week’s team reveal, I mentioned my disappointment that Ellie Carpenter hadn’t turned her excellent underlying numbers into more than seven points in Matchweek 1. Luckily, the Australian delivered a huge 16-point return this time around.

Carpenter exceeded 1.0 xG+xA for the second successive Matchweek, registered the most touches in the opposition box against Manchester United and had the highest average position of any Chelsea player. That sort of attacking involvement from a defender is incredibly valuable, making her a lock in my team.

London City Lionesses disappointed in Matchweek 2, but Alanna Kennedy has enough to keep her place for at least another week. They face Charlton Athletic on Saturday, with their opponents the only side yet to score this season.

Kaitlyn Torpey was a late transfer about 10 minutes before the previous deadline, replacing Ella Morris. The move saved me £0.5m and provided a route into Newcastle United’s strong defence, with the Magpies yet to concede in WSL2 this season.

A home meeting with Sheffield United looks good this week. Torpey is also currently my only outfield player featuring on Sunday, which makes her particularly useful for substitutions.

Like Newcastle, Arsenal are yet to concede this season, so Ona Batlle has already proved a valuable asset. Their schedule becomes considerably tougher between now and Matchweek 5, but I’m happy to keep her against Manchester United. Eva Olid’s side are yet to find their groove.

MIDFIELDERS

Daniëlle van de Donk continues to justify all of my pre-season praise! She scored her second backheeled goal of the campaign in Matchweek 2 and has already returned eight and nine points across the opening two rounds.

At just £4.5m, Van de Donk continues to offer incredible value and will probably remain in my squad for the rest of the leg. Hopefully, she can continue her goalscoring form against Charlton.

Lauren James is another player in scintillating form, producing double-digit hauls in both Matchweeks so far. She ranks third in the league for expected goals (xG) and sixth for expected assists (xA), suggesting there is plenty of substance behind her excellent start.

A meeting with newly-promoted Birmingham City makes James a strong captaincy option for Saturday.

Lauren Hemp registered her first attacking return of the season last weekend, assisting Manchester City’s third goal on her way to nine points.

She was unfortunate not to score even more. Hemp finished on nine defensive actions and 11 attacking actions, leaving her one short of an additional point in both categories. She also created the own goal, which unfortunately isn’t rewarded with an assist in WSL Fantasy.

Hemp leads the league for xG+xA and attacking actions, so a big haul shouldn’t be too far away.

Alexia Putellas disappointed again in Matchweek 2, collecting just two points. However, with Charlton away next, selling her now would feel premature. Another blank could force me into a rethink.

Mariona Caldentey is another player yet to register an attacking return. Arsenal’s difficult upcoming schedule, combined with Caldentey no longer looking guaranteed to complete 90 minutes, means I’m seriously considering selling her this week.

There are plenty of potential replacements. Fran Kirby (£6.0m) of Brighton, Signe Gaupset (£6.0m) and Kirsty Hanson (£8.0m) of Tottenham, Beth Lumsden (£7.5m) of Newcastle and Katy Watson (£6.5m) of Sunderland are all on my radar.

Three of those options would also free up additional funds for my forward line, making a move even more tempting. With so many appealing midfielders available, deciding which one to bring in won’t be easy.

FORWARDS

In last week’s reveal, I highlighted just how good Bunny Shaw‘s fixture against Aston Villa looked. Thankfully, she delivered.

Shaw registered six shots, all from inside the box, and produced 1.5 xG+xA. A goal and an assist ultimately helped her to a 13-point haul, once again showing why she’s the queen of WSL Fantasy.

She has also scored 12 times in eight appearances against Friday’s opponents Liverpool. Given her excellent start to the season, there’s little reason to consider another captain for Friday. If she blanks, James provides a strong alternative on Saturday, while one of my potential new signings could take over on Sunday.

Claudia Mummery-Walker was benched last weekend and didn’t make it onto the pitch. Luckily, we’ll see Burnley’s line-up before Friday’s deadline, which should make the decision over whether to keep her much easier.

If she misses out again, Paulina Nyström (£5.5m) or Missy Goodwin (£5.0m) could replace her. Both Leicester City forwards have started the season strongly, although that move could depend on what I decide to do elsewhere.

Finally, Beata Olsson is the one player I can guarantee won’t be in my squad by the Matchweek 3 deadline. She hasn’t been involved enough across Liverpool’s opening two matches and was substituted at half-time against Tottenham.

Kathleen McGovern (£6.5m), who I mentioned in my Matchweek 1 reveal, is the most likely replacement. Newcastle have started the season superbly and McGovern looks like their most appealing forward, ranking third in WSL2 for xG.

If I decide against McGovern, Kiko Seike (£7.0m) is another tempting option given Brighton’s upcoming fixtures.
