Joao Pedro out of Brazil squad with reported injury

Joao Pedro (£7.8m) has pulled out of the Brazil squad for the upcoming September internationals, casting doubt over his involvement for Gameweek 5.

The Brazilian Football Federation say that the striker is “injured”.

The Chelsea striker, owned by 75% of Fantasy Premier League managers, had not been seen by Sky Sports cameras in training earlier this week.

Despite some media reports suggesting he was “expected to be fit”, this latest development surely renders him a major concern for Friday’s clash with Brentford.

ARE THERE ANY MORE DETAILS ON THE INJURY?

Brazilian outlet Globo say that Pedro “hurt his knee [on Saturday] in a fall after a challenge for the ball in the air, remained on the field, and even scored a goal, but continued to experience pain and later underwent medical examinations.”

Pedro did appear to be struggling at one point but completed the game:

        I don't believe that will change enough. The team/squad just isn't good enough with players like Zirkzee. However attack with Bruno, Mbeumo and Cunha should be ok, even Rashford looked like he could find his confidence and he doesn't play vs Vuskovic every week.

          If the midfield and attack had confidence in the defence it would definitely improve them going forward. On paper, they now have decent midfielders and attack. That defence is atrocious though.

        The way Barry has missed big chances and lost his starting place to Beto during last season, I agree. "Never buy players that aren't good footballers" is an old fpl rule out of experience. Or "whenever you think that certain player should be dropped, the manager may have similar ideas".

    the thing i dont get with gross is he didnt really do much last season (in terms of attacking returns), in quite alot of starts. whats going on this season, passing the eye test, is he just getting forward more? is it hinshelwood being out allowing that to happen

      Brighton have had good fixtures from an offensive point of view, and they even got to play vs 10 men for half the Coventry game

      Brighton are a good team and Groß is a good pick at his price but don’t expect too much with the fixtures they have coming up

        yeah for sure agree, its just only got to catch second half today but gross was playing so advanced it seemed, pretty saw it said he had 8 shots + chances created , thats not the gross i know! leash is off it seems. its like that late chance he had vs leeds, just wouldnt expect him to be in the box for that

          One third of his xGI is from the pen vs Coventry

          Almost another third is from that one shot v Leeds

          Maybe he has a little bit more attacking licence without Hinshelwood about, but most of the time shots don’t have that high an xG, so given Groß’ low shot volume I’d expect that xG to tail off. When you add in the fact he has 5 returns from 2.3 xGI, you can see that this form is probably unsustainable.

          And honestly that’s fine. He’s 5.7m and doesn’t need to be the second coming of Bruno F to be worth picking. But I probably won’t pick him until GW10, unless I can rotate him in for 6+7 and out for 8+9
