Our team of contributors are returning as we count down to the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Gameweek 5 deadline.

This time, we hear from FPL General, who shares the thoughts behind his Wildcard team.

General, aka Mark, has three top 500 finishes to his name, as well as a further nine inside the top 50k. He currently sits at 99k in the world.

Gameweek 4 Review

FPL General’s Gameweek 5 Wildcard team reveal

Tripling your rank in Triple Captain week isn’t a fun experience! The Troops have just dropped from 33k to 99k. Cole Palmer (£9.7m) didn’t get the mega-haul I was hoping for against Hull City, but at least it wasn’t a Sadio Mané or Leroy Sané type of disaster.

Two free transfers brought in Palmer and Maxim De Cuyper (£4.9m) for Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) and the injured Joe Rodon (£4.4m). I was torn between getting De Cuyper or moving Bryan Mbeumo (£7.9m) to Morgan Rogers (£7.7m).

In the end, I prioritised fixing the weakest area of my squad. In typical FPL fashion, the alternative route would’ve banked more points because there’d have been a Leif Davis (£4.0m) start. Grrrr! What a season the Ipswich left-back is having; he’s doing his best Leighton Baines impression (minus the penalties).

Meanwhile, the Antonin Kinsky (£4.5m) and Bart Verbruggen (£4.5m) goalkeeping rotation has returned two clean sheets out of three (surrounding the recent Free Hit). For the long term, Kinsky is the one I’m looking to set and forget.

As an owner of Ben White (£5.5m) and Martin Odegaard (£6.7m), Arsenal’s Saturday night win was painful, where David Raya (£6.0m) saved a penalty, and Bukayo Saka (£9.5m) netted his own. Thankfully, I was at Kevin Bridges in Glasgow with no phone signal!

At least defender-cum-winger De Cuyper was able to do the business. He’s a gem, who I hope continues to play there during Gameweeks 6 and 7.

Furthermore, a nod to Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£6.0m). The red arrow was looking much worse before he racked up 10 Monday night points.

Current Gameweek 5 Wildcard Draft

Wednesday’s concerning Joao Pedro (£7.8m) injury news was exactly the excuse I needed to activate a Wildcard, knowing I had just one free transfer and several other things to change.

Of course, having a squad refresh right before a three-week international break isn’t ideal timing. But it feels right for my squad. I’ve enjoyed being a bit more aggressive this season, though that’s me out of chips already.

This is where I’m currently at…

Below is my wildcard, I am just debating my final midfielder spot

    Kinsky
    Gvardiol / Calafiori / Munoz
    MGW / Saka / Rogers / ****
    Haaland / Pedro / Barry

    Leno / King / Konsa / Davis

who do you prefer, bearing in mind I will bench next week to play King
    a) NDiaye - More of a minutes risk but roatets perfectly to allow King next week and then play in 3-5-2 GW7
    B) Barnes - Good fixtures, but benching headache next week vs King

No idea which path is best. 2fts and don’t currently have Haaland. Plan was to make the swap in 7 but not sure if it’s worth doing it this week. I can do Bruno and Isak - Haaland and Barnes/KDH?

Other option is sboszli and mendy - Munoz and KDH/Barnes

    Current team

    Raya
    Konsa Hall Calafiori De cypher
    Sobozsli Palmer Roger’s MGW Bruno
    Isak

    Fodder JP mendy fodder

1st move means having to play de cypher and no bench but I get Haaland?

Currently leaning towards 2nd moves and captain MGW.

Any thought as at a dead end with this?

Bruno and Isak both could easily score higher than haaland this gameweek. But yeah it must be hard not having haaland

That’s what my gut is saying as well. I’m a Sunderland fan and we don’t often get battered off teams but not sure how we will be after playing Europe then prem.

    No real bench

Just noticed bournemouth have outstanding fixtures, hilarious 3 out of 4 are red in fpl

Liverpool, Chelsea, United - dreadful defences
Arguably Sunderland at home their most difficult game

Tavenier, Scott, Kluivert, Evanilson look good

That’s a really difficult one. A will likely tick over more consistently but B is way more likely to get the hauls. B for me but probably a coin flip over next 6 games anyway

How much longer is De Cuyper a (good) option do we think?

Contemplating De Cuyper to Muharemovic given the JP news - would mean I could play Muharemovic over Gross this week
