Here’s our regular update on the competition, featuring a look at the Matchday 1 games that took place over Gameweek 31. We also have some fun handing out some Matchday Awards and a look ahead to Matchday 2. Please use this article for all tournament chat.

MATCHDAY 1 RESULTS

The final Matchday 1 results have been updated in the Cup spreadsheet and we can reveal that after a hard-fought first round, England and South Africal top Groups A and B respectively. Among the most eye catching ties was the FFScout moderators and contributors dominated Sri Lanka side’s narrow 948-942 defeat to New Zealand. Congratulations to all the victorious teams and a reminder to those that lost that there is a long long way to go.

        From my calculations you got 22 for Clyne (Walters, 2 Dawsons, 4 PVAs, 1 Bellerin) and 10 for Remy (3 Boyds, Cork, Puncheon) whereas we got 10 for Clyne (Schlupp, PVA, Bellerin) and 11 for Remy (Cork, 3 Boyds Mane).

        Wait, that means you actually only got 11 more points, not 13! 🙂

    No defo 32 points off the bench for us just recounted. Don't forget has to be minimum 3 at the back so in some cases the 2nd sub will be subbed in instead of the 1st sub.

    Hi All,
    Just wanted to clarify once and for all that I had no intention of cheating or subverting the rules...

    I set up a second team for my daughter in GW14 - not knowing there would be a tournament or even thinking about that at the time. Anyway, she soon became bored and the team was just sort of left.

    When this tournament came around, I was invited to join Saniul's team. I didn't want to use my normal team for 'personal reasons' but I remembered about my daughters' unwanted team.

    Having checked the rules ("no new teams" but this wasn't a new team) I let Saniul know, I emailed ENR as the main organiser and told him very clearly what I intended to do and why. He replied simply "Noted". Naturally, I assumed this meant he was fine with this.

    After that, I saw ENR encouraging people to take hits whilst on the bench so I thought this would be a good tactic to employ. My situation is no different to people being recruited with a crap OR who didn't mind taking hits - I.e. Nothing to lose in terms of overall rank - we are not going to win FPL.

    Obviously if ENR had read the email properly to start with I would have just withdrawn and let someone else take my place. No problem, we all make mistakes sometimes, even ENR. But now, it seems a bit unfair that the team is being punished for that mistake.

    No need to reply, just wanted to let you know the situation from my perspective.

    Future tournament Idea: Hit Restrictions (-8)

    Following the recent issues and tactics of taking multiple hits in order to prepare for the next week, this could be addressed by applying a 'maximum hits allowed rule' (or the "numb rule").

    As it's extremely unlikely a serious player would ever take higher than a -8 hit in a single GW (-12 for DGW), I propose that in future tournaments, any playing/benched players cannot take any more than two hits (three for DGW).

      I don't think there needs to be a restriction on the number of hits you can take, everyone involved just needs to be ethical and show sportsmanship and not do things that they wouldn't want members of other teams to do.

        This. In general I love the players that take mad punts and hits. They offer something different to the template and I dont think these kind of players should be punished by being excluded from this competition.

        I think the original rule is on the ball. No second teams. Having second teams just means having your cake and eating it too 😉

      We don't want to control how people play fpl though. If they want to prepare for a DGW or are really injury stricken, and take hits, so be it.

      What we can control from next time though is entry of "second teams". For whatever reason, it wont be allowed. This should by default control the hit taking.

        Altho the intent of the existing rule was to prevent second teams, it doesn't state it explicitly. I guess we learn even after so many team comps. That's the beauty of continuous improvement.

      The rules are fine, anybody can do what they want with their FPL team.

      Just that we fielded a team that was not exactly fair, we accept, and thought it was fine if we got the team ratified. But then again, we have pulled the team out, the -60 does not hurt anyone except us now, and so I think there has been no wrongdoing done.

      May these competitions happen every year, always a source of fun.

        Batch +1's all from your team, based on that alone as nothing there warrants a genuine +1. This place is getting silly.

        4Vets - I don't think it's fair for him to play again. 2 teams, not a fair player so he's out and rightly so. It would be more acceptable if he entered his first team. The plan was to cheat in this competition, this was stopped by others. Ireland can bury their hands in the sand and view it in a way that makes them seem fair. By not criticising they've shown they are all as culpable.

    There is a weekly deadline for submission every matchday (Friday 2359 HRS BST)

    i am just looking for clarification on this rule above. It doesn't actually say the friday before the matches.
    So can I submit my team the friday after the matches as long as it is before 2359 hrs bst?

    i dont want to submit before the matches for personal reasons, cause personally i might lose then.
