United crush City at Old Trafford to earn bragging rights in the Manchester derby. Midfield trio Ashley Young, Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata are all in the points, whilst Sergio Aguero returns to form with a brace for the beaten champions. Elsewhere, a late winner from Cesc Fabregas strengthens Chelsea’s grip on the title at neighbours QPR.

United midfield continue revival

Manchester United recovered from an early salvo from their arch rivals to run out 4-2 winners at Old Trafford. Juan Mata, Ashley Young and Marouane Fellaini built on their recent starring performances – grabbing a goal apiece – while Chris Smalling also registered against the Sky Blues. Despite not gracing the scoresheet, Wayne Rooney supplied the assist for Mata’s effort, marking the third occasion in the last four Gameweeks that the English striker has produced attacking returns.

Since being handed a run of five starts by manager Louis van Gaal, Fellaini (6.4) has notched two goals and an assist in four outings. Similarly, the Red Devils have profited from Mata’s (8.4) return to the fold, with three goals in as many starts for the Spanish playmaker. The 4.9-priced Young posted the second-highest points haul (14) of any player besides Yannick Bolasie (24) so far this Gameweek – by virtue of a pair of assists and United’s equaliser, his second strike in the last five. In light of United’s attacking verve of late (12 goals in last four), and a trio of agreeable fixtures (eve, WBA, cry) beyond a meeting with Chelsea on Saturday, the midfielders represent enticing alternatives across the price brackets.

In a worrying development for United supporters, Michael Carrick limped off the field after Van Gaal had use all his substitutes – forcing Rooney to drop back into the holding midfield role. It’s no coincidence that the Red Devils upturn in form coincided with Carrick’s reinstatement for their 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, with two comprehensive victories against Liverpool and City in their subsequent match-ups. Carrick’s potential absence could work to the favour of managers who’ve invested in Chelsea’s squad, given that the clubs lock horns at Stamford Bridge next Gameweek.

Aguero brace signals return to form

Sergio Aguero netted for the first time in six outings, recording an ultimately futile brace against the red side of Manchester. The Argentine rewarded those managers that invested faith in the face of a 12-match spell that only harvested three goals. Now, having rediscovered his scoring touch, Aguero looks well placed to generate some momentum in a trio of favourable home ties in the Sky Blues’ upcoming schedule (WHU, AVL, tot, QPR). Furthermore, Fantasy managers that intended to replace Aguero with Daniel Sturridge after Liverpool’s blank in preparation for their double now have food for thought, given that the ex-Atletico Madrid marksman threatens to cash in against Aston villa at the Etihad Stadium.

David Silva bagged his first assist since Gameweek 26 but failed to produce a single attempt and managed just three touches within United’s penalty area – a product of City only enjoying 42% possession at Old Trafford. Home ties against West Ham and Villa should allow Silva to greater exert his influence and discourage his 25% ownership from exploring other options just yet.

Manager Manuel Pellegirni named two changes from their 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace last Gameweek, with Pablo Zabaleta replacing Bacary Sagna at right-back and James Milner coming in for Edin Dzeko – prompting a shift from a 4-4-2 to a 4-4-1-1 formation, with Milner designated to man-mark United’s chief orchestrator Michael Carrick.

Fabregas crushes R’s spirits with late strike

Chelsea emerged 1-0 winners over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road courtesy of a goal from Cesc Fabregas two minutes from time. The 9.2-priced midfielder delivered attacking returns for the third match in succession, after bagging an assist in each of the last two Gameweeks.

Fabregas’ return to form is timely given Jose Mourinho’s men are gearing up for a Gameweek 34 double, which consists of trips to Arsenal and Leicester. With Eden Hazard – who tallied his ninth assist of the season against the R’s – and one of Branislav Ivanovic/John Terry representing obvious sources of Chelsea coverage for their back-to-back road matches, Fabregas is a strong candidate for that third route into the league leader’s squad. It’s worth noting that both Fabregas and Nemanja Matic avoided a tenth booking of the season yesterday and are no longer one caution away from a ban- with the deadline now extended, players need to collect 15 cards before falling foul of suspension.

Chelsea named two changes from the XI that triumphed over Stoke City last weekend, with Didier Drogba spearheading the attack in Loic Remy’s absence and Ramires replacing Oscar in midfield – the industrious Brazilian partnered Nemanja Matic in the double pivot, while Fabregas assumed the No. 10 role.

Loic Remy wasn’t included in the matchday squad at Loftus Road having picked up a muscular strain in training, although Mourinho did reveal he expects him to available for the next match. With concerns already surrounding Remy’s minutes for the Blues’ double fixtures – in light of Drogba’s availability and Diego Costa’s potential recovery from a hamstring complaint – a fresh knock for the Frenchman heightens the risk for potential investors.

In the Hoops camp, boss Chris Ramsey made just one alteration to his side, drafting in Karl Henry for Niko Kranjcar on the right flank. The R’s now sit out Gameweek 33 before embarking on an unforgiving trio of matches (WHU, liv, mci). As such, many Charlie Austin owners will surely be looking to part company and free up a forward berth with a view to bolstering their double Gameweek squads, regardless of the fact he’s notched two goals in three starts.

Views would be appreciated for someone without a wildcard. Everyone chasing Liverpool and Chelsea players for GW34. BUT: how can it be done when wanting to revert to a balanced side for the run in?

I want to get back Giroud, hold on to Sanchez and Keep hold of Siva and Aguero so I will be limited to:

Henderson, Hazard, Remy, Terry ATM plus 2ft in GW34.
Thinking of Sclupp and Vardy who can act as my lightweights to the end of the season.
So Lescott/Schlupp and Kane/Vardy. Am I mad to do Kane?

A few people are talking about getting rid of Kane. Spurs seem to be away with the fairies. I am in the same boat as you with no Wildcard, plan to take a few hits to have a big double gameweek and then start getting Arsenal players back in

No WC here either but wouldn't get rid of Kane. I'd ship Giroud for Vardy and get him back in after the DGW - that's what I'm planning to do.

I have already done Giroud for Remy and will swap him back.
I also look at the remaining home games for defenders especially.Thats why I am talking Lescott/Schlupp.

I could really use some help guys

    Panti* (4.0)
    Ivan, Rose, Toby (Kosc*, Baird*)
    Haz, Silva, Siggy, Eriksen (Cork)
    Remy*, Aguero, Kane

    1ft 4.1m itb.

What should I do here? Obviously I have no keeper this week. Is using a transfer on a keeper a good use of a transfer at this stage? Or is it better saving an FT for the dgw? Or should I ship somebody else? I'm confused.

The plan is to start getting Ozil, Giroud and Ramsey/Sanchez from ARS and also Defoe, removing Vardy, Sturridge, Coutinho and Fabregas, obviously depending on suspensions/injuries etc. Thank you for your feedback.

      C.

You can set up with SOT defender, 3 Chelsea, Silva, Aguero, 1-2 Leicester, Puncheon as 5th mid and still have your 3 Liverpool on the bench which means you save next week and also have 8-9 DGWers. No point taking a hit a week before WC.

Ok so I play in a head to head - drafted league.

This week both me and my opponent can only field 9 players however one of my players is Bony

    Do I;

    A) Keep Bony
    B) Bony -> Pelle (-4)
    C) Bony -> Ings (-4)
    D) Bony -> Vardy (-4)

I KNOW there are better FPL options but as I said I'm tied down by the draft as players aren't available and both these have some nice fixtures coming up and will prolly stay in my team until the end of the season.

I appreciate your time cheers in advance.

I'll admit that I almost spat my tea out in incredulity when I read RuthNZ's hot topic on ditching Harry Kane.

    http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2015/04/05/the-scoreboard-gameweek-31-sunday-2/?hc_page=5#hc_comment_10036884

But not for the first time he has delivered a curve ball that has hit the target. Just been looking at Spurs attacking output in recent games - recent games that have not exactly been tough - and they are way, way down. If Kane can't score against Newcastle this gameweek I'm seriously considering following this advice that I once mocked. Forward slots are at a premium and with Liverpool and Chelsea with a double, Murray on form and Rooney as well providing a case for selection, the choices are opening up. In addition Giroud looks essential for the run, especially Gwk 37.

Anyone else starting to think the unthinkable and ditching Kane.

I'm considering benching him for the double (Spurs play Saints away) so I can play a 3-5-2 with 4 Liv/Che mids then reassessing Kane's/Spurs form after that

Its part of the plan on WC in GW34.

Vardy - SWA, bur, CHE, NEW, SOU, sun, QPR
Kane - new, sou, MCI, sot, HUL, eve

Thats 1 more game and 3 more at home.
Plus Leicester and Vardy surely will have something to fight for..

I've been planning to ditch him on my DGW34 wildcard, together with his teammates Eriksen and Rose, ever since I got the last two in for DGW28.

Admittedly I thought Arsenal would have a DGW together with Chelsea and Liverpool, but I still want to load up on all three for the run-in. And Spurs have been terrible, so there's every reason to get rid.

Hmmm. I don't know that it was advice. I was just talking about what I am planning to do. As usual it seemed that challenging the standard viewpoint was not universally appreciated. 😉

There are 2 reasons I will be dumping Kane. One is that my DGW wildcard team and subsequent plans work better that way with a switch to a (mainly) 3-5-2. The other is that I think Spurs are a fading force now and their fixtures GW34-36 are not at all wonderful either. GW37 is good but everyone will captain an Arsenal player that week so how much can no Kane hurt? I'd far rather have Defoe for his DGW that week.

      That's my reasoning anyway.

I am with you on this, Ruth. I am likely dumping Kane (sounds like a breakup!) when I WC in GW34 in lieu of my new plan: Murray/Giroud, Vardy, and Aguero. Spurs are not playing well, and Kane has cooled. Their schedule gets tougher in GW34, too. The hold of Kane is sub-optimal to me.

This ^. Sanchez and Remy out, Murray and CP midfielder in. For GW33 only, although I may hold Murray for the DGW as CP has Hull and I do not see many alternatives for GW34 at the forward position (Aguero, Vardy, and ...?). Not Kane at Soton, but maybe Rooney.

    3. Ruth_NZ

Puncheon is the only one I would consider but in the end I decided to go for Lennon instead.

Puncheon is the linchpin of that team. Bolasie is generally a poor finisher who just had a massive GW that I don't think he'll repeat. The fact that he scored 21% of his entire points this season in one game suggests it was an anomaly. Tadic has a similar profile.

Murrray might be a good option but I am heavily biased against him because I think he's a lump that belongs in a Championship team at best. He may be benefiting from Palace's attacking play right now but fundamentally I don't rate him in the slightest.

I think Murray is a good finisher, and CP are playing to his strenghts -- getting balls into the box that Murray can drive home. He may not have many attacking tools, but the one he has is perfectly suited for the current CP style of attack.

Yes, all that is true. 🙂

I just don't want a carthorse in my team. And I also think that when Palace's fixtures get more difficult (i.e. now) he won't have anything to fall back on.

8 goals from 18 games for Reading in the Championship on loan in the first part of the season. That's a fair marker of how good he actually is I think.

Next two are good fixtures which is all most are considering him for

WBA who seem to have imploded recently, then Hull who have got 2 points from their last 8 games I think I saw - both at home

Palace on fire at the moment as well so bound to score, and Murray is more likely to be involved than any one of Puncheon/Bolasie/Zaha in a given game

he scored twenty something in his last full season in championship. he was at reading to get games after being out injured for many months. has always been a very good goalscorer

Yes but mostly in League One, not even the Championship. And he's 31 so he is hardly likely to be improving.

I think Walkman's appraisal above is accurate. And that Murray is very reliant on Palace's recent attacking prowess. When fixtures get tougher and Palace can't cut teams open so easily what happens then?

Chelsea, United, Liverpool, Swansea are Palace's last 4 games this season. I wouldn't be surprised to see Murray blank in all 4.

Armband is one too far imo, could pay off as a punt though

              It's a 1 week punt before wildcard.

I just fancy Lennon more than Silva this week and Silva would be my captain otherwise. In a weak GW when people won't be fielding the strongest teams (and some with less than 11) I'm happy taking the armband punt.

      1. Ruth_NZ
        • 10 Years

Not precautionary but just a minor calf problem apparently.

"(The mildest) calf strain is a minor tear with up to 10% of the muscle fibers effected. The athlete will feel a twinge of pain in the back of the lower leg. They may be able to carry on playing or competing (but will be) in mild discomfort. There is likely to be tightness and aching in the calf muscles two to five days after injury." [SportsInjuryClinic]

Should be back this weekend. Which is a good thing because Chelsea will need his pace to keep United honest.

IDK. To me, with 2FT and a WC, I am not likely taking the chance on holding Remy when he could be out again. He has a slight injury. That does not make him auto out or auto back in. It will depend. And, Chelsea are not huge scorers and they face an in-form Man Utd team. Since I have the luxury of trades, I am intending to move Remy to Murray as Murray is not hurt at all and really in-form. Then, when I WC in GW34, I re-evaluate and may even take Remy back. I was burned this weekend with Remy and there is no reason to risk being burned again if I have the trades to get out of him.

Yes. If you aren't able to field a player at all that means you will only take a -2pts hit per player, because the player you bring in will at least get 2 appearance points rather than the 0 you would have gotten.

I think you are only picking Yaya because he has a 10.8m price tag and a big reputation based on last season. Will he really outscore Puncheon or Lennon?

Bellerin to Coleman and Sanchez to Lennon or Puncheon for a -4 is what I'd do I think. Remy could easily score against United.

Agree. Yaya is playing like a lazy guy. He may get a garbage goal off a rebound, but he does nothing to create chances for him or anyone else, let alone play defense (which is FPL irrelevant, but then again, if I were the coach, he'd be benched next time out).

It's a weird one really. Pellegrini's transfers have been awful in the main but people say he didn't make those decisions. I really can't believe his views were disregarded but that's what they say.

He has also nailed himself to the 4-2-2-2 mast with the Bony purchase even though everyone can see Aguero does better in a 4-2-3-1 (as last weekend). If you have players like Aguero and Silva I can't see why you wouldn't build a team shape to suit them.

I think Pellegrini's City are failing, the writing has been on the wall all season. Yet he is committed to the tactics and players that are causing the failure. If he isn't gone in the summer I will be amazed and until then I can't see where a City resurgence is going to come from.

As far as I am concerned City and Spurs are to be entirely avoided from now until the end of season.

People can say what they want about the transfers.. but not being able to get the best out of his players is pretty damning.

So I'm pretty much over the Aguero disaster, but still a bit apprehensive about tonight.

I have 2 FT's but I am slightly tempted to save one.
    The candidates to go are:
    DDG, Mane and Eriksen.
Should I keep DDG one more week and get in Mignolet?

I'd keep DDG and get Migs in next week.

I'd probably go Mane to Puncheon but I'm not convinced on Fabregas. I think I'd go Utd mid field. They controlled so much play yesterday and looked so hungry.. even in terms of the ground they were covering. They actually looked strong.. even Young surprised me!

Schlup gets played OOP a lot and has more attacking threat.

I'm not going overboard for the upcoming DGW. Have a good lead in my mini-league, so no need to rip up my team completely:

    Terry + Remy
    Mignolet + Hendo

    And that's it.

haha yea could say this. But Palace are all out attack and have 2 great fixtures coming up. Why not? Worst that can happen is you make some dollar off him

I would prefer Murray tbh, but tricky fixtures after 34. doubling up seems unwise

I was going to double up with Bolasie + Murray for next week then I have the wildcard

That could well pay off tbh, worth looking at if you have a wildcard for sure

I may double-up for GW33 and maybe hold Murray for GW34, but it's a short-term punt thing based on having 2FT and a WC.

Great history comparison but I always thought Bolasie had more potential anyway.

Still don't get why Tadic isn't started more. Their most intelligent passer, 3 goals from 6 starts since Jan 1 yet just gets mostly cameos

I think there's more to come. Problem is their fixtures after 34..
