Raheem Sterling and Joe Allen grab a goal apiece as Liverpool recover from back-to-back losses to sweep aside Newcastle at Anfield. The Magpies, meanwhile, turn in another disappointing display and have now tasted defeat in six of the last seven Gameweeks.

Sterling on target in routine Reds win

Raheem Sterling netted his first goal in six outings as Liverpool cruised past a toothless Newcastle side. The Reds starlet shifted the ball across right-back Ryan Taylor on the left flank and guided a curling finish beyond the reach of Tim Krul. Sterling’s return to form arrives at an opportune time for his 30% ownership as the Merseysiders prepare to embark upon their first double Gameweek (wba, hull) after they sit out Gameweek 33. Joe Allen was on hand to cement the three points in the 70th minute, notching his first goal in two seasons.

Jordan Henderson (6.7) picked up the assist for Sterling’s (8.5) opener and has now delivered attacking returns in five of his previous six starts, tallying four goals and two assists in the process. Considering he sits just three points (144) behind Sterling (147) in the midfield standings, boasts superior form and costs 1.8 less, the former Sunderland man is poised for a surge in ownership once the Reds resume league action.

Prior to their Arsenal capitulation, Liverpool were unbeaten in their previous six road matches, with five wins and one draw to their name. Furthermore, both the Tigers (eight) and the Baggies (ten) have shipped plenty of goals in the past three Gameweeks, encouraging Fantasy managers to pursue multiple routes into Liverpool’s squad for Gameweek 34.

Brendan Rodgers named two changes from the XI that triumphed over Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup, with Emre Can and Jordon Ibe replacing the injured Mamadou Sakho and Daniel Sturridge. Philippe Coutinho was tasked with leading the line, with Sterling lining up on the left wing as the Reds boss continued with the 4-3-3 formation rolled out at Blackburn last midweek.

Rodgers revealed after the Tyneside clash that Sturridge could be fit for the weekend, but Sakho is set to be sidelined for three to four weeks. Sturridge’s fitness is clearly a key talking point as the double approaches, yet unless he features heavily in the their FA Cup semi-final against Aston Villa on Sunday, few managers will fancy investing in the 11.1-priced forward without the security of starts, with the midfield looking the safest option.

Last night’s clean sheet served a reminder of Liverpool’s rearguard as a source of coverage, with eight shut-outs in 12 outings illustrating their newfound resilience. Martin Skrtel’s return for Gameweek 34 either spells the end of Dejan Lovren’s run in the side or allows Rodgers to revert back to the 3-4-3 formation that served him well during their unbeaten streak.

Sissoko sees red as Magpies wilt

Newcastle plummeted to a fifth straight defeat as they struggled to carve out any meaningful chances at Anfield. The Toon have registered just one goal in four Gameweeks since Papiss Cisse picked up a lengthy ban for his involvement in a spitting altercation with Manchester United’s Jonny Evans, with the Senegalese frontman still set to serve three more matches on his suspension (TOT, SWA, lei).

The Magpies’ upcoming schedule offers hope that manager John Carver can arrest their woeful run of losses, however. Four of their remaining six matches are at St James’ Park (TOT, SWA, WBA, WHU), while the remaining two (lei, qpr) are trips to sides currently residing in the bottom three.

Moussa Sissoko was handed a second yellow card for a rash challenge on Lucas Leiva. Having received a red card earlier in the campaign, the France international will serve a two-match ban and sits out home ties against Spurs and Swansea. The fact that Sissoko is the only player to score in any of the last five Gameweeks emphasises Carver’s mounting problems for the run-in.

Palace-mania is very strange. They're in form, but at a certain point they have nothing to play for and you just know that Pulis will be out to get one over on them.

H2H strategy. I'm up against a dead team with Silva(c) and no Aguero. They won't be able to field a full XI but have some differentials such as Siggy, Jedinak, and Rooney. Do I cover Silva(c) or stick with Aguero(c)? I'm thinking the latter since their differentials could fire. Correct logic?

Aguero (C) and a full XI should be enough to beat them. Don't sacrifice points for a H2H strategy.

Hey fellas, if you can, please help me with this lot..

    Guzan*, Pants*
Ivano, Clyne, Bellerin*, Yun*, Naughton (injured)
Eriksen, Silva, Haz, Siggy, Wanyama (suspended)
    Aguero, Kane, Austin*

    2FT
    4.9 itb

Right now, I'm playing with 8, have no keeper and Clyne may not even start.

Was thinking of playing a 4-4-2 and not having a GK:
    a) Wanyama > Fab, and Naugton > Schlupp
    b) Wanyama > Bolassie, and Naughton > Terry

I'm waiting on Austin to monitor the Costa/Remy/Drogba and Sturridge situation, but if I get Terry or Fab, I'll have too many CHE players. Rubbish.

    Many thanks.

I could do Mannone>Krul but think there's more value in playing without a keeper this GW so i can double up the next and do something like Sanchez & Eriksen to Henderson & Sterling?

Ive only been following FPL for this season but ive thought that out of any of the Liverpool defence it would be Sakho to be dropped? He just doesnt seem that strong in comparison to Skrtel and Moreno.

Sakho seems to be the first defender to get 'done'

I have to say I didn't rate Sakho at the start of the season. I think he has improved quite a bit this season, and has been a big part of our defence. He is still very 'panicky' on the ball though, which is a worry.

In regards to Moreno, I don't think he'll be dropped. If we play 3-4-3, there are no other candidates for LWB apart from Ibe (that would be his opposite side) or Markovic. I doubt either of them will play over him. If we play 4-3-3, he's our only LB candidate really until Jose Enrique or Flanagan return, but even then I don't see them displacing him.

Decisions to make ahead of blank and DGW. Appreciate some help!

    Panti/Hamer (no keepers for 33)

    Terry/Toby/C Dawson/Bruce/Baird (only 3 playing CBs)

    Alexis/Hazard/Silva/Chadli/Boyd

    Giroud/Kun/Kane

    0.1 ITB 1FT

At the moment only have 9 players for the blanks. My thoughts were:

Get Remy (if fit) for Giroud ahead of 33 and take a 4pt hit to bring in Kelvin Davies for Panti.

Then bring in Sterling + Skrtle/Studge for a 4 pt hit in the DGW.

Currently leading ML by 43 pts, so have some room to maneuver. Many thanks!

What is the purpose of keeping the WC till this point of the season? Setting your team up perfectly for the run-in or just for GW 34? I see many people here ruining their teams with Hull and Leceister players just for the DGW. The WC is supposed to be planned for the remainder of the season not just GW. You will be scrambling to clear the team from these fringe players right away in order to load up on Arsenal for GW 37 and other good teams with good fixtures. You may think you have it all planned but FPL doesn't work that way. There are injuries, suspensions, price changes, new bandwagons to hop on and other ones to get off. I guarantee you you will end up taking many hits to fix you team later. Plan wisely.

Some will have 3-4 players from Hull and Leceister. You will waste your whole bench till the end of the season? Of course not. You will take them out. Its not just about 1 GW or 2. 6 GWs to go is a lot.

I think you should look at the desire coming from Leicester players atm. No one of them wants to go down. Which shows their fighting spirit. I don't see any reason why one can't have 3 Leicester / Hull players and not screw up their team.

Anyways, not looking to start any quarrel over here. Thanks for your opinion.

The fact that you don't understand it maybe says more about you than it does about anything else.

I will have 3 Leicester/Hull and it's quite simple really.

Schmeichel and Ospina will be my 2 GKs. Schmeichel will play GW34, Ospina will play the rest of the season. I imagine you don't object to me having a 4.4 GK with decent fixtures benched?

Schlupp will play GW34 and a couple of other games more before the season ends. He has attacking potential to go with good fixtures and he's already in my squad anyway. I imagine you don't object to me having a 4.5m player like that as a rotation defender?

N'Doye will play GW34 and GW36 for me and be benched in GW35. That means he plays for me against Palace and Liverpool (DGW) and Burnley. After that he becomes Defoe for DGW37.

The alternative to N'Doye is to keep Kane against Southampton, City and Stoke. In the context of the rest of my team (I won't need N'Doye in GW35 when my Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal players all have great fixtures and I would probably bench Kane even if I had him) the N'Doye/Defoe route looks better. There is an element of judgement involved here but I imagine you won't object to me using my judgement rather than yours?

Having 3 Leicester/Hull will cost me 1 transfer to bring Defoe in for GW37 and that's something I'd be doing anyway.

In some way I agree with what you really saying. However as a WCer planning to WC next week I disagree on the points of Leicester and Hull. They still do have average fixtures and they will be fighting for their life's to stay in EPL. why would you not get them and get players from teams that has nth to play for? This is where desire is coming in. I don't see the issue of having 3 lei and Hull players in my WC. will replace the hull player soon enough but I'm keeping the Leicester ones.

It was initially as a punt to be honest but my gut was saying to go with Murray at the time which I ignored. I'm thinking Chelsea will grind out results at the moment and not play such free flowing football. I might even ignore Fab and double up on their defence. I took Aguero out the week before last but he has some good home games coming up so would like to get him back in.

My other option could be to ship out Kane for Aguero as I think Spurs have gone off the boil and there are other good options out there. I think this late in the season there is no point holding onto players.

I'll be doing Kane to Sturridge, so I'd advise Kane to Aguero.

I just think it's worth keeping Remy, especially for the double game week, and although he let you, and I, down at the weekend, selling him would be rather rash. 🙂

I'd triple up. 2 good games in the DGW. The question is 2 defenders and a mid or 2 mids and a defender. Both games have great CS potential and both games can see Liverpool score 3 or more goals. Hull and WBA are in dire form.
