MATCHDAY 2 RESULTS

The final Matchday 2 results have been updated in the Cup spreadsheet and we can reveal that after a hard-fought first round, New Zealand and South Africa top Groups A and B respectively. Among the most eye catching ties was the high-scoring game between Australia and Bangladesh, which ended 587-579 in Australia’s favour, courtesy of  Yannick Bolasie’s hat-trick, as the Palace man was subbed onto Wakey’s team in the absence of Loic Remy.

Congratulations to all the victorious teams and a reminder to those that lost that the majority of the group matches are still to be played.

MATCHDAY 2 AWARDS

Sachin Tendulkar Award for the best batting line-up – SCO with 625 runs

Salma Hayek Overnight Award for the player of the week – Randy Milla with 78 runs from WI

Not quite. 10 more points had he played instead of the lowest scorer.

Just shows how unpredictable this game based on a game about a game based on a game is.

we lost on week one to an austin goal that wasnt a goal and a lucky assist
we lost on week three to an eriksen goal that wasnt a goal and billy not letting us play 12 players

so really we are undefeated and probably the best team in the league

I had a dream that FPL gave an "offer" to all players for this week. It was "make 4 transfers and get 1 free". I suspected something fishy so I logged onto FFS and lo and behold it was on the scout tweets. At this point I start reading the posts and everyone was happy as it engaged more players with the DGW. I became worried that my WC will be of no use. Then I woke up from the nightmare (although it was during a mid morning nap). The end

                    They're vs. Their

They're and their are equally acceptable abbreviations. The only difference is that they're is preferred in the U.S. and Canada, and their is preferred in the U.K., Australia, and most other English-speaking areas of the world.

Of course you only have 14 players because ENR sent a misleading e-mail, then banned a player who didn't actually break any rule, knowing his team would benefit by playing your short-handed team.

I'm not at all concerned with his injury, think he'll start. Just debating whether the hit will nullify potential gain and Silva has a decent fixture. Cheers!

Gink takes the following position above: "I see that one team has managed to recruit active players. Benefits the community doncha think?"

Seriously, I am not convinced on that point. I understand that the banter is part of the comp and obviously participate, but I am not convinced that it benefits the community. I think it remains an open question that the participation on these comp articles, separate from the rest of the community is a net positive or negative for the rest of the community.

I think overall the comps themselves are clearly a positive. West Indies members have never been encouraged to post on these articles. I see no need to encourage them to be distracted from the productive discussions on the West Indies forum. Windies do have to agree to be active on that forum as a condition of membership. It works, as the Windies forum generates many times more traffic than the comp articles.

Again, I am not convinced that this benefits the community in the short run. All that traffic on the West Indies forum would otherwise be posted here. Add to that the traffic from the other 11 teams occurring off site and that is a lot of traffic driven away from FFS. I hope this is a net benefit to the community as after the comp, those posters return to FFS, continue to post here, and in some cases, become the part of the leadership of future comps.

I agree with your points alright. Team UAE has a lot of discussions at the Burj aswell but I dont think it detracts from FFS too much. Most of what we say there can't really be discussed here, tactics and such or the real life psychological implications of Sportings constant knob jokes.

All members are very involved and keen to post particularly on the cricket articles. I think it will stand in good stead that they will be more involved in the FFS community in the future. As Diva has pointed out before, he is a regular contributor to the site, but is quite enjoying conversing with those from different time zones who he usually wouldnt encounter in the DZ.

Gosh Shadow, thank goodness you had the courage to come out and say this. I have been looking for some way out of the hellish nightmare that is this cricket forum. Gink seems to have eyes in the back of his head, and if I try to post my thoughts anywhere else Thomass starts yapping at my heels. I feel like all my productive FPL energy is spunked away on pointless banter, but Bonz and ENR won't even tolerate any team discussion on the SAF forum: "get back to the cricket article, and we want to see banter!" I probably shouldn't be saying this, but they've even offered a bounty for the SAF player who can post the most snide replies to your comments. It just makes me feel dirty.

Thank you Shadow, you've emboldened me. I don't care what they do, I am going to go right now and post some planned transfers on the SAF forum, and maybe drop a little RMT on the main FFS thread.

You do assume that they can't remain active in both places though.

If given a choice, for sure, the team forum (and having been part of your Korean team, I know it works great). That does give you a group of online buddies, limited to the team however. But as you know, it's not all about making friends, you need to make a few rivals along the way 😉

Haven't really been on these topics too much, I love a bit of banter, but don't want to post on here just for the sake of it. This is my first tournament like this as well, so it's quite nice to sit back and watch you all banter about tournaments gone by....

A community is the sum of the people in it.

Most people involved in the comp who are part of the community enjoy these tournaments and therfore benefit. Some people who are not really part of the community may also join in and also get benefit. Some of these may join the community as a result. These are all benefits.

On the negative side are other members of the community who are not participating, some of whom find the noise generated by these tournaments a bit annoying. For them all activity happening sea from these boards is a better anyway.

To me it's quite clear that the benefits outweigh the negatives

The morning sun penetrates the viscous fug of the South Africa team dressing room, glancing capriciously off broken bottle-shards to illuminate random but surprisingly telling facets of a depraved tableau. Here a spill of bong-water; there a pair of trousers bunched at the ankles of a slumbering spin-bowler; near the lavatory (but not near enough) a spray of vomit; in the corner a twisted pair of soiled pants. The party is not yet over, but the survivors have moved on to the last place they thought they saw some alcohol. "No mas" I croaked at ENR a couple of hours ago, and he said "go join the Windies if you want to sleep, Mary!" I knew I couldn't keep going, couldn't protect him, so I said, "please just let Thomass pass out!" but ENR was having none of it. He, Bonz and Gink gathered up some bats from the equipment room, hoisted Thomass between them, and charged out in the direction of the England Pimms tent shouting "Protea Fire!"

Consciousness just forced itself upon me like a buggering uncle and now I have as company only the huddled, supine forms of my less resilient teammates, and the clothing and bodily fluids they shed hours earlier. What brought me to this pass? Is this what success looks like? We started with the hubris of rampaging, undefeated conquerors, but it doesn't feel that way anymore. Celebration and extravagance are great for a while, but how can I be festive when I awake in a room suffused with the fragrance of feces and bile, and somewhere out there poor Thomass is on the wrong end of a funnel full of Pimms?

This is not triumph, this is boredom: Team South Africa has run out of mountains to climb--of dragons to slay. As I sit here in this sepulcher of dissolution I realise that only one thing can save us from a descent into the worst excesses of our animal nature: we need someone to give us a game. Come on, anyone, please give us a challenge that will keep Gink from finding out how many prescription medications he can set off against one another to achieve the perfect buzz; please give ENR and Bonz something other to do than teach Thomass how to smoke ghost through Southern Comfort. Please somebody--Ireland, Windies, anyone--give us a little competition, so we can break this debauched cycle and rediscover our purpose!

Awesome. I hit the word "tableau" and immediately read the rest of this in the voice of Mike Myer's as Dr. Evil in Austin Powers when he's talking to his son's support group about his childhood.

Fantastically done by you. You should get manager of the week award just for that.

Even though your pressers/stories aren't as good as our vice captain's, they are absolutely thrillers and keep you on the edge of your seat. Something our opponents haven't been able to do for us.
