It’s not often that we get to spend a good portion of the ScoutCast discussing Leicester City’s rich array of Fantasy talent.

That’s how this week’s episode pans out, as Luke aka “D1sable” does his George Boyd act to come off the bench and join myself, Granville and Jonty to analyse the impending double Gameweek.

We tackle the usual ScoutCast regulars, whilst deflecting the latest round of questions from the community, assessing the great Foxes hunt, the Hazard versus Sterling gamble and even how we can possibly eek out a valid target amongst the Hull City squad. Meanwhile, Granville is dreaming of a three-digit points bonanza as he joins the world’s number one in activating his belated FPL Wildcard.

This week’s episode was beamed out live on Monday evening via Google Hangouts. You can catch the full fat version via the player below.

For those who prefer a more refined, fine dining version, you’ll need to click this link or use the smaller player below for the edited MP3 audio.

Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel and Google Plus page to keep informed of when future ScoutCast hit the screen.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If Silva plays, which I think he will, he's gonna punish his sellers. I see a hefty haul in the cards.

Villa gonna be all head up in the clouds because of the FA Cup. Gonna ship 5 goals at least to City, and Silva will have two of those and an assist before being subbed at the 70-minute mark. I can see it all so clearly up on the video screen in my mind.

I think the intention in the other games was to give him some minutes when the games were already won, which never was the case in the recent matches. Resting him for the U21 game essentially means that Mourinho intends to play him for more minutes than he would in a normal sub appearance

Not sure what to do this week.

Choose 3 from Bertie, Skrtel, Toby, Wolly and Zouma.

Thinking Skrtel, Wolly and Bertie at the minute.

Also need 2 from Kane, Sanchez and Walters.

    Thinking Sanchez and Walters.

    a little help?

    Currently this with a (-4)
    krul (myhill)
Bruce / Skrtel / Ivanovic (pva, baird)
    Fabregas / Hazard / Henderson / Mahrez / silva
    aguero / STURRIDGE (kane)

Originally thought to bench Kane. Now since Studge is not playing, leaning towards putting Kane in.

One option is to get Sterling and Vardy (will be -12 for the week). Ok or foolhardy? Rival has 30 point lead but only 3 DGWers with 1 FT.

Because if Chelsea score, Hazard is very likely to be involved. When Chelsea park the bus, their fullbacks don't attack at all. Ivan hardly left his half against United, so there's not much hope of attacking returns.

This. I'm exactly 30 points behind ML leader. Have cut his lead down 40 points in the last few gameweeks. Defo not some insurmountable task.

Really between Hazard and Sterling IMO, nothing else to it. I wouldn't be excavating too deep for an out-of-the-box captain this GW tbh. Hazard the de-facto skipper here, and Sterling a decent enough differential if you're desperate in the chase considering Sturridge's confirmed absence vs the Baggies.

Other than that, I think it's just unnecessary.

given how I'm sure Chelsea will play at least vs Arsenal and potentially the rest of the season I think 2 defenders and a mid is better than any other combination..

already have Terry, but Ivanovic is so expensive for a fullback that might not be tactically shackled..I'm hoping Cahill is nailed for two starts but hell with Solanke set to play who is to say Zouma doesn't?

    A) go Ivanovic as it will pay off eventually even if he's negative vs Arsenal
    B) go Cahill
    C) just Terry in defense

Really struggling to get 3 decent CHE and LIV and keeping all of Silva, Sanchez & Aggy.

    Any better options than this?

    COURTOIS
    TERRY, SKRTEL, MORGAN
    HAZ, STERLING, HENDO, Silva, Sanchez
    VARDY, Aguero

    Myhill, Kane, pva, McShane

Yep on a WC. 0.4m short of that move so would have to switch Skrtel to Moreno to afford Cahill/Azpil. Not convinced any of those 3 are locked for both games in the DGW

Azpil and Moreno are nailed for both. You can get rid of Azpil shortly after too, when Chelsea clinch the league. He's been a baps magnet recently too

Not so sure about nailed for both. Luis has come in for Azpil before when games have been close together. Moreno looks more nailed to me of the two.

That being said, I may still take the risk in order to keep Silva!

You can always change a defender easier, just go with Schmeichel/Panti combo for 2 extra games for the season (each has a DGW)

No offence to any or all on here, but we really do need a separate thread that answers the four or five burning questions:

    1) Will Remy play
    2) Will Silva play, is it worth shopping for -4 to Fabregas
    3) Skrtel or Moreno
    4) Henderson or Coutinho
    5) Will Chelsea park the bus vs Arsenal

It's literally been 99% of the conversation here all week.

To lighten the mood I'm going to tell a joke, and not a very good one at that.

I think this is something FFS could improve in general. Usually there's the same questions that get asked each week over and over. A hot topc for each 1 would work when users can post their comments or replies. There should also be 1 for the WC template team this week as they all look identical

If there was a section for it it might work. Like how we direct all that Cricket traffic to the community article. Only problem would be would it become a case of everyone posting their questions there and then returning to the regular forum therefore not answering others.

Agreed, and I don't mean to sound negative about it ... but there are a huge number of casual posters who roll in with their WCs, ask the same questions and request a RMWCT without offering any comment or value to other people's posts. 26. Wildcarders vs Non Wildcarders
    Ruth_NZ
    • 10 Years

A lot has been said about wildcards. Non-wildcarders are singing the praises of SGW players like Kane, Aguero, Silva, Clyne/Bertrand, Giroud etc and saying wildcarders would be mad to get rid. They are also asking how wildcarders "will get rid of" all the excess Leicester, Liverpool, Hull and Chelsea assets.

All of this misses the point. A wildcard right now invites you to play a 5-GW season starting with a clean sheet. If you plan it right you will have a good idea what team you will play in every GW from 34 to 38 and will be keeping a FT spare (not committed) in case you need it. The wildcard is for 5 GWs, not 1, and should involve a smooth planned progression with no hits.

For non wildcarders the situation is entirely different. They aren't starting with a clean sheet, they are starting with a team that is largely based on what has happened in the past. Maybe containing 1 or 2 injured players (Naughton, Baird, Sturridge, Foster) and probably containing players for whom fixtures are turning for the worse (Palace, WBA, Swansea).

A wildcard player can decide whether Spurs in wind-down mode points to losing Kane, whether City's form and fixtures point to losing (one of) Silva or Aguero, whether Palace's 1 good fixture this week justifies keeping Murray or Bolasie. A non-wildcard player will mainly be removing the least useful players and trying to get in sufficient DGW players with as few hits as possible. It's a different mindset entirely.

I think this is the big intangible benefit of a wildcard now. It presses you to play a 5-GW season when most are playing the last 5 GWs of an existing season. If you can cut free of what may have served well up till now and assess what will serve best from now on you will have a big advantage.

That's why seeing wildcard teams with Murray, Kane, both Silva and Aguero, premium Southampton defenders etc seems crazy to me. I totally understand non-wildcarders sticking with those assets. But I think wildcarders who don't take a radical look at how to maximise points in a 5-GW season are missing a big trick. The template is busting open. Don't fall for the idea that you need to cling to yesterday's version.

Yep. When I wildcarded I had a TV around 106. Silva out for me meant 10 DGW this week and Sanchez in next week. Keeping him meant 9 DGW this week and Ramsey or Ozil instead of Sanchez next week.

With a TV around 109 I could probably have had the best of both worlds.

My TV is 107.2 so not loads more. They I make it work is that I have to double up on defence for either Chelsea or Liverpool. This can save quite a bit of cash and enable one to keep Silva for example.

The issue here is you can do a 5gw mini season from gws 1-5 pre wildcard.

Doing so 34-38 has some advantages (DGW in this case) but also disadvantages... You don't know which teams will start rotating. Gw38 is also a random gw with crazy selections.

Also an early wildcard doesn't have instant value like a dgw, but you can pick long-term picks to bring you through all the way to January. It is a slowerz steadier improvement to your team

They are some interesting points Ruth, and you are dead right in that a WC right now is an opportunity to plan for 2-3 gameweek's time and finish the season with some differentials that will score big.

However, I think the risk is that if you don't "cover" yourself with the same players that non-WCers have that they may fall behind ... i.e. "What if Aguero and Silva share 20 points this week, what if Southampton keep a clean sheet, etc."

The problem is that looking back is a stark reminder of what can happen when you don't board the bandwagons ... look at those (myself included) who took 4-5 weeks to bring Kane in, missing out on a bundle of points and a cheap, reliable striker. If he were to score this weekend you'd have to keep him for the rest of the season, surely. If he blanks then most will lose him ... it's still a coin toss.

      Nice post, and fully agree.

I'm on a WC and the only single GWers (over the 5 weeks) I'm keeping are Aguero (explosive, in form and decent fixtures), Kane (still crazy value), and probably Silva (AVL and QPR in the next 3 being the main reason).

      Other than them it's 3 CHE, 3 LIV, 2 LEI, 2 SUN, 1 HUL & 1 ARS

2 ARS to come in with freebies before GW37 and 1 spare to sort out any injuries/messes that come along.

Yeah. Get rid of Aguero and Silva before a home match against Villa. For who? I'm a non-WC manager, and I will have 3 Chelsea and 3 Liverpool for the DGW. On top of Aguero, Silva....and Kane, provided there isn't some news about an injury to keep one of them out. Who in God's name are WC'ers going to replace such hitters with? Vardy? N'Doye? You can have it both ways if you want. You don't have to lose big hitters just to load up on WC players. You might have a point about the Southampton defenders, but that's about it. A long post that, if I'm being honest, doesn't really say much of value.

Agree in essence - but it's important not to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Players like Silva and Aguero are proven FPL point scorers. Southampton defence still offers some value in players like Alde and Davis. Kane is still fighting for golden boot and is so highly owned...dropping him for Vardy/N'Doye is a disaster waiting to happen.

More importantly for me, the WC is a tremendous opportunity to consolidate leads for MLs or set themselves up with enough differentials to make one last push. I think this is the main advantage for GW WCers.

I wouldn't bother with Saints, Spurs, Palace, WBA, Arsenal keeper, more than Aguero from City and so on. People doing Kane to Vardy for a hit are nuts, I reckon. Seen a few of those on here. There's more than one way to do well, though, that's what makes the game fun.

How is their team going to be better by dropping the likes of Aguero, Kane, Silva...? Seems like people are expecting all the DGW players to go bonkers. Doesn't happen that way.

agree. 10 DGW players + Kun doesn't automatically mean it's better than say 8 DGW players + Silva, Kane, Southampton def.

In essence, it's comparing Silva Kane SOT def vs Vardy/NDoye Cambiasso McShane...over simplistic but one can get the drift.

Agree with a lot there Ruth. For us non wc holders a little planning was neded, ie last week used 2fts to get Fab and Huth.

      Im currently-

      Ming
      Huth Ivan Alderw
      Haz Fab Sterling Silva
      Aguero Kane Giroud

Myhill Boyd PVA Hadria achieved with a -4

Actually happy with this and if on a wc would only be looking at Kane and Alderw in the starting 11.

What the WC gives is a chance to set Hadria to an ARS defence or Boyd to ARS mid getting you nice and set up for the next 5, as you said.

Achiving a good team this week is fairly easy for all, you wc holders can now have your squad set for the next 5 with transfers to deal with injuries etc.

Mignolet-Myhill is an excellent pairing. But only 2 Liverpool seems a miss.

I think on a wildcard you'd want to change Boyd and Haidara at least. Cambiasso for Boyd would allow you to bench Kane and play 3-5-2. Haidara could become a useful rotator with good fixtures like Vlaar.

That would leave a decently well set team though still with only 2 Liverpool. But with a wildcard more radical changes could also be made. Kane to N'Doye and bench Giroud this week for example. Toby to Skrtel or Moreno for example. Not essential changes by any means but ones you would surely consider if transfers were free.

Agree for the most part, WC holders have a distinct advantage right now but it will only benefit those who use it properly, keeping the rest of the season in mind, instead of just this DGW as you stated.

Also, I wanted to let you know I always appreciate a comprehensive and introspective post. Even if they are a bit controversial. They are quite rare around these parts. Hope you don't get dissuaded by some of the clowns that lurk around here and keep sharing your thoughts.

I don't have a WC and I'm most probably not hanging on to Kane for this specific reason. Neither am I getting any Saints defensive cover(Yes, I still own Forster...lol)at this late stage.

I'm happy not to own a WC at this stage.

Think that's more proof of people being drawn to a Hot Topic, than it is the subject matter being discussed though, right? (or in my case, it's just another excuse to hear my own voice 😉 )

Hot Topics typically should have some back & forth to them...

In this instance though, I don't see many people arguing a case for using their WC in order to keep all the same players they already have...

Although, I think we'd all love to see that...
Team that never needed their WC activities it in GW38, but keeps their current squad intact.

I don't know about you but I'd be glad to see the competition "waste" wildcards, not sure why it bothers you how others choose to construct their teams for the run in.

Would non-wildcarders love a wildcard now, of course. Does having one guarantee great scores gw 34-38? Course not.

The major point here is, truth be told the dgw hasnt turned out to be the massive dgw people were hoping for, and most serious players would have planned sufficient to have/get in 6-7 key dgwers.

Highly doubt that non-wildcarders are losing any sleep over being short a lei and/or a hull player vs a Silva/Kane/Giroud/Clyne.

Usually enjoy your posts, but this one....much ado about nothing imho of course.

I didn't ask for it to be hulked. 😉

It was just some musings about the different attitudes to specific players I am seeing on here at the moment. I think there are at least 4 strategies going on:

        1. Radical wildcarders - using the wildcard to make substantial changes (I have replaced 10 of 15 players in my squad);
        2. Safety wildcarders - using the wildcard to tidy and progress their squads but tending to hold many of the "standard" high ownership assets (as mentioned above);
        3. Safety non-wildcarders - resisting hits this GW as far as possible (max -4), are probably well-planned in advance, probably will have 5-7 DGW players, many will own Remy;
        4. Radical non-wildcarders - willing to take a -8 or -12 to maximise the DGW and set up for the rest of the season.

If many of the DGW players do well, 1 and 4 will win this week. If they don't and most of the 'classic' SGW players do well then 2 and 3 will come out better.

These 4 types represent different circumstances and mindsets. I find that interesting and I especially find the psychological and strategic elements behind the mindsets interesting. But in any case way it's no wonder that consensus and agreement is in short supply right now.

Of course it's good having a wildcard to play now, but I think the point some have been making is that it seems wildcarders' heads have been turned by the DGW fixtures and they've lost sight of both player form and the 5 week stretch you refer to (*cough* Granville? *cough*). The question is whether the DGW will be fools gold and some wildcarders will be sat here this time next week contemplating taking hits to ship out their Liverpool and Leicester players (and, if Chelsea have wrapped up the title, possibly Chelsea players).

Makes me feel better about dumping Silva. I too see this week as the start of a five gameweek season - unfortunately not with a wildcard - so taking a few hits instead to set myself up for a fun final five.

As regards to my own team, I'm setting it up nicely for the final 5 games and all it will cost me is a maximum of 12 points. I'm not sure if had a WC my team would be that different so I have effectively bought one on the cheap. I've covered the main players needed and accept I could be down by approximately 12 points (hopefully) on my closest rivals by the end of the GW. I'm happy with that because I made about 40-50 points on them by playing it in GW30 when no-one else did!
      That's right, I'm a bloody genius 😀

However if it does go tits up you won't see me till August so best of luck everyone and have a nice summer. 😉

You knew some of the GW33/GW34 blanks and doubles before GW31 so you effectively are doing a 2-stage wildcard process. Essentially your -8 or -12 this week will mainly be taking account of Liverpool-Hull I imagine.

A wildcard played pre-31 probably worked out brilliantly if you had Benteke, Austin and Phillips in your team. In fact can we roll time back to then so I can do the same?

I had Benteke and Phillips but gambled against Austin unfortunately. Actually looking back I've only gained about 30 odd points so really things are still very much in the balance.

Gawd, there are some donuts on here. 😡

Ruth, this is a fine observation and you should be congratulated for your analysis. Both informative and perceptive in equal measure.

I have long argued the point that the tail end of the season is a time to "free ride." By this I mean, a chance to climb the rankings by getting in differentials or "one offs" as there is little to be gained from playing fixtures three or four times ahead of you. Although this season, there is the dwg in 37, which can not be ignored imo.

The wildcarders have a massive advantage in my opinion. They can stack up on the dgwers and position their teams for remainder of the season. For those of us looking to climb the rankings, this is our time and we be make or break for many.

      Good work, girlfriend.

      @Mods :

I think you should do a better job protecting Ruth on discussions like this. Commenters like Acquafresca add nothing to this conversation, usually take a quick jibe at the poster and then disappear. Sure Acqua might have a history of posting long articles on other websites, but just because he has a recognizable username, he gets away with / upvoted on useless comments. I know you can't remove such comments because they don't violate your T&C's, but you could at least comment on the same thread showing some support for the OP.

I understand that a lot of people here think that Ruth should lighten up a bit and not respond to criticism, I agree with this to some extent. However, the guy has posted some thought provoking topics lately and broken up the monotony of multiple repetitive RMWCTs. As a community, we might be in danger of losing posters like him if the mods just sit by and watch once-respected members of the community reply with "Cry me a river.." / tl;dr and get ghost upvotes

Excellent artice. I'm on a wildcard and struggling to resist the temptation to throw in 3 Leicester and a token Hull player just because I can. This doesn't really make sense if you take a 5 game approach.

I've mapped my team for GW34 (with an eye on GW37) then plotted forward to see what 3 transfers can give me in GW37 and whether the timing works.

I'm definately holding Kun, Sanchez and Kane. Silva is a big issue for me. I shipped him out earlier this week, but may bring him back tonight as I do think over 5 gameweeks he still has appeal.

Yep. I think for a "radical wildcarder" (see above) 10 DGW players is probably where it ends up. I am doing that too with Kun as my only SGW player but I'll have 3 Arsenal from next week and most likely 2 or 3 Sunderland in place by 37 (depending on whether I decide I want them).

The only fixture I'm worried about losing Kane for is GW37 against Hull. But my plans allow me to bring in my choice of Kane or DGW Defoe that week and it's a decision I'll make based on form and prospects at that time. Losing Southampton defence doesn't worry me at all, I think Skrtel is a way better option than Clyne/Bertrand over the final 5 GWs.

          agreed

my only dilemma is whether to get a DGW striker and swap to Giroud later, or a Hull defender and bench Giroud this week but save myself a transfer later down the line

I had exactly that same issue but with different players. I wanted to keep Rooney and bench him this week but that meant 2 Arsenal to bring in and also forced compromises elsewhere (Ramsey instead of Sanchez).

In the end I decided to keep Giroud on the bench and lose Rooney. And the clincher was it saves a FT later on as I will only have 1 Arsenal left to bring in (Fabregas to Sanchez next week).

Most keen managers not on a WC will have prepared their teams for this DGW and DGW 37 and will be prepared to take a couple of hits. It would be interesting to see how many of the top 1K have a wildcard left.

Ramsey or Ozil from GW36 onwards?

Ramsey in slightly better form, but he has been playing out wide on the right and I'm not sure that is the best position for him. Ozil should retain the no. 10 position and is also on set pieces.

    Thoughts?

Will likely be choosing between these 2 also come GW37 and will probably come down to who's in best nick at the time.

Right now I think Ramsey shades it - much bigger goal threat

agreed, will monitor ramsey as his fitness is his biggest worry.

A tend to agree with Jinswick, Ramsey is returning to form and is box to box with a great knack of getting into good spots for a shot on goal. Ozil has been impressive, but a little inconsistent.

left enough in the bank to be able to decide in GW36.

Same here. Personally Sanchez is out of the question, it'll require an extra hit to bring him in and he's probably not worth his price.

This is where i am at. Sanchez requires hits and major surgery. Fab and Sterling to Ozil and Ramsey with Giroud looks like the way i will go

So you'll have Haz, Silva, Ozil, Ramsey?

                That looks good imo

      Out of those 2, Ramsey.

I still feel that Sanchez is the best Arsenal "midfielder" to go for. I only have room for one Arsenal mid and it looks like that Sanchez is the way that I will be going.

If money was no issue I'd probably get Sanchez. Since my team would require serious surgery to bring him in though, it's not really worth it when Ramsey, Ozil and possibly Cazorla could all comfortably outscore him

Ozil is 8.9 now. I have to say that is very tempting. But I will only have 1 Arsenal mid and have constructed my wildcard for it to be Sanchez (from GW35). He's not as good value as Ozil and Ramsey but value is maybe less important than points potential at this stage.

Value is points at a lower price:

          Player 1: Scores 8 points, costs 5.0.
          Player 2: Scores 15 points, costs 10.0.

          Player 1 is better value.

In a 38 game season, yes. In a 5-game season less so. Value is what delivers maximum points but that is value across your squad, not for one specific player.

In addition I may very well captain Sanchez in 37 so that changes the value equation for him.

My thoughts are have enough in the bank to bring in Ozil, but go with Ramsey if that's the better option in a week's time or whenever (looking at you DGW37). I presume Sanchez is a given for you.
