Southampton suffer a blow as Morgan Schneiderlin is ruled out for the season. Mathieu Debuchy emerges as a doubt for Arsenal. Leicester’s Jeffrey Schlupp returns to contention against Newcastle, whilst Alberto Moreno and Lucas are back in training for Liverpool.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed that midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin will miss the rest of the season with the knee injury picked up in the stalemate with Spurs. Dusan Tadic, meanwhile, is ruled out of the trip to Sunderland with a groin issue.

Tim Sherwood has ruled out Gabby Agbonlahor for the weekend, with the forward failing to recover from a knock. Alan Hutton is back in training for Villa to boost their defensive options. The right-back faces a late fitness test ahead of the meeting with Everton.

Bobby Zamora is struggling to be fit for the crucial clash with Liverpool this weekend, according to Chris Ramsey, who also reveals that most of the other players are fit to be involved. Rio Ferdinand has returned to training and could be available for the R’s, while Ramsey suggests that Leroy Fer is also in contention to start.

Mark Hughes has revealed that Geoff Cameron is Stoke’s main injury doubt ahead of the encounter with Swansea, with the defender yet to return to training having sustained a minor hamstring injury. Peter Odemwingie is in contention to feature once again for Stoke, following his spell on the sidelines, though Hughes admits Odemwingie is not yet ready to play from the start. Elsewhere, Charlie Adam will be assessed after breaking his nose in training, and could be set to play with a protective mask against Southampton.

Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery this week. Lucas and Alberto Moreno have both returned to full training for Liverpool having recovered from their injuries, and are expected to be available to face QPR this weekend.

Foxes boss Nigel Pearson has confirmed Jeffrey Schlupp will be available to face Newcastle this weekend, after missing Leicester’s last two matches with a calf problem. David Nugent, however, has failed to recover from a similar complaint and been ruled out of the Newcastle encounter. Pearson has also admitted that both Andy King and Robert Huth remain injury concerns, with the pair set to be assessed ahead of the weekend.

Everton have reveaed that Bryan Oviedo will miss the rest of the season, with the Costa Rican international fracturing his fifth metatarsal in training this week.

Arsene Wenger could be without Mathieu Debuchy for the Gunners trip to Hull. The defender sustained “a little hamstring problem” in training, and Wenger admits Monday’s match could come too soon for him.

Newcastle confirm that Daryl Janmaat will be available for the weekend after recovering from the illness suffered in the loss to Swansea. Siem de Jong is expected to be involved at the weekend, but won’t be fit enough to start, admits John Carver.

Sean Dyche could again be without Striker Sam Vokes for the Clarets trip to West Ham. Vokes missed the loss to Leicester with a minor thigh injury and remains “touch and go” to face the Hammers. Aside from Vokes and the known long-term absentees, Dyche has reported a clean bill of health for Burnley this weekend.

Steven Fletcher is expected to miss the Black Cats’ home encounter with Southampton. Dick Advocaat revealed the Scot has undergone scans on his ankle problem but has yet to know the outcome.

Jefferson Montero is fit and available for Swansea after overcoming the thigh problem that forced him off during last week’s win at Newcastle.

Nikica Jelavic has trained with the Hull first-team squad for the last four days. Earlier this morning, Steve Bruce revealed that Mo Diame is still struggling with a knee problem.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Interesting reading for those thinking of holding Sterling and Vardy for one more week. Surely Vardy is more likely that that?

        5/4 represents a 44% chance.
        11/10 represents a 47.5% chance
        10/11 represents a 52.5% chance

        Not much difference really.

Well broken down. 🙂 I think people often get misled by odds because they haven't done the calculations.

Not at all. I think holding Sterling is wise anyway but the odds back that up. Also don't think there's that much between Giroud and Vardy so I'll hold vardy too... again, odds back that up. If anything, I'd think Newcastle and Hull's form swing it.

Coutinho 13/10 (comes in above Ramsey but below Sterling and Sanchez)
Fabregas 7/4 (pretty high considering we mostly bought him for his assists)
Kane 13/10 (makes it easier to sell him for Giroud or Benteke)

Sorry, noticed a logic fail. Aguero is more likely than Sterling and Hazard according to those odds

Interesting there hasn't been anything from Koeman on Aldy after he admitted he had been playing through pain.

Around that time of the season, most teams are in their groove and it's just a case of making the easy moves and picking the most popular captains.

The problem is that his goal threat is non-existent (1 shot in last 2 matches), and Chelsea's stats are dreadful.

Cesc is in good form and may well play 10, probably with Costa back.

Saving FT means one less game of injury risk for Arsenal players.

Hull (a) for Arsenal doesn't look as likely for goals as Palace (h) for Chelsea.

I think you are making the right decision. That's what I'm doing too.

But Fab still played in the pivot in the last game, Ramires out wide, Willian playing #10

Until half time, and it didn't work well.

2nd half Ramires moved into CM, Willian wide and Cesc 10. And Chelsea scored 3 goals.

It's fairly likely that Fabregas will play 10 at least for part of the game.

      Sorry to Wade in.

I've pulled the trigger on Fabregas to Sanchez this week for a few reasons:

      1. CPL love to spoil a party and have been playing well away from home
      2. Chelsea are focusing on defence and I can see this game being a 1-0 or even a 1-1
      3. Fab had his moments the other night, but he still drops so deep. Sometimes picking up the ball in an almost center back position!
      4. Not convinced about Fabs goal threat at all, and Sanchez always looks lively - looked good against Chelsea too.

Have Giroud, but have my reservations about Sterling in the starting 11 (personal opinion) with Markovic and Lallana getting game time against Hull.

Sterling > Ramsey for free this week?

Or Giroud enough for now...save FT and just roll the dice with Sterling for one more week.

Yep. Even talking about it makes me want to watch it (which I will now do).

I have seen that fight many times but every time I see it again I still can't believe it.

For anyone that doesn't know what we are talking about...

With you on that. I was in my 20s when that fight took place, and drove an hour with a grad school buddy to watch it live in a theater in Roanoke Virginia. This random theater was going bonkers. What a fight!

Hugely unoriginal suggestion but I'd be looking to get Giroud in somehow. I appreciate that this will probably require two transfers. I wouldn't be too bothered abut keeping Henderson or Fabregas.

You're still eyeing up top spot? 😯

83 points at this stage too much to me, especially when there are 32 other guys in between who will cover most possibilities between them. You're effectively in 34th place in a minileague with 4 weeks to go, if you win it from here you're a legend!

If Costa starts he's a great differential captain.

    3. Ruth_NZ
      • 11 Years
      10 years, 9 months ago

      Hmm.

Having Costa won't hurt you but GW38 will be the game to captain him. He usually takes a game or two to get match sharpness after a break and he's effectively been out 6 weeks.

Captain selection will probably be fairly evenly split between Aguero and Eden. I'd just try to pick the right one of them. Coutinho could be an outside punt.
