Southampton suffer a blow as Morgan Schneiderlin is ruled out for the season. Mathieu Debuchy emerges as a doubt for Arsenal. Leicester’s Jeffrey Schlupp returns to contention against Newcastle, whilst Alberto Moreno and Lucas are back in training for Liverpool.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed that midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin will miss the rest of the season with the knee injury picked up in the stalemate with Spurs. Dusan Tadic, meanwhile, is ruled out of the trip to Sunderland with a groin issue.

Tim Sherwood has ruled out Gabby Agbonlahor for the weekend, with the forward failing to recover from a knock. Alan Hutton is back in training for Villa to boost their defensive options. The right-back faces a late fitness test ahead of the meeting with Everton.

Bobby Zamora is struggling to be fit for the crucial clash with Liverpool this weekend, according to Chris Ramsey, who also reveals that most of the other players are fit to be involved. Rio Ferdinand has returned to training and could be available for the R’s, while Ramsey suggests that Leroy Fer is also in contention to start.

Mark Hughes has revealed that Geoff Cameron is Stoke’s main injury doubt ahead of the encounter with Swansea, with the defender yet to return to training having sustained a minor hamstring injury. Peter Odemwingie is in contention to feature once again for Stoke, following his spell on the sidelines, though Hughes admits Odemwingie is not yet ready to play from the start. Elsewhere, Charlie Adam will be assessed after breaking his nose in training, and could be set to play with a protective mask against Southampton.

Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery this week. Lucas and Alberto Moreno have both returned to full training for Liverpool having recovered from their injuries, and are expected to be available to face QPR this weekend.

Foxes boss Nigel Pearson has confirmed Jeffrey Schlupp will be available to face Newcastle this weekend, after missing Leicester’s last two matches with a calf problem. David Nugent, however, has failed to recover from a similar complaint and been ruled out of the Newcastle encounter. Pearson has also admitted that both Andy King and Robert Huth remain injury concerns, with the pair set to be assessed ahead of the weekend.

Everton have reveaed that Bryan Oviedo will miss the rest of the season, with the Costa Rican international fracturing his fifth metatarsal in training this week.

Arsene Wenger could be without Mathieu Debuchy for the Gunners trip to Hull. The defender sustained “a little hamstring problem” in training, and Wenger admits Monday’s match could come too soon for him.

Newcastle confirm that Daryl Janmaat will be available for the weekend after recovering from the illness suffered in the loss to Swansea. Siem de Jong is expected to be involved at the weekend, but won’t be fit enough to start, admits John Carver.

Sean Dyche could again be without Striker Sam Vokes for the Clarets trip to West Ham. Vokes missed the loss to Leicester with a minor thigh injury and remains “touch and go” to face the Hammers. Aside from Vokes and the known long-term absentees, Dyche has reported a clean bill of health for Burnley this weekend.

Steven Fletcher is expected to miss the Black Cats’ home encounter with Southampton. Dick Advocaat revealed the Scot has undergone scans on his ankle problem but has yet to know the outcome.

Jefferson Montero is fit and available for Swansea after overcoming the thigh problem that forced him off during last week’s win at Newcastle.

Nikica Jelavic has trained with the Hull first-team squad for the last four days. Earlier this morning, Steve Bruce revealed that Mo Diame is still struggling with a knee problem.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

The bookies' odds are so marginally different on anytime goalscorer between Hazard, Aguero, Vardy, Kane and others that it's a bit misleading to say that.

No, it's not misleading to say that, it's just strictly accurate (I checked three bookies). However, you're right that it would be misguided to conclude from that that Aguero is head and shoulders above other options.

That's what I meant really. "Bookies favourite" means much less when all the contestants are running in different races. And this week the goalscorer odds are particularly close between the top 6 or 7 options.

Actually, I just realised that what I said was not strictly accurate: I was talking about the (c) options that are under discussion, but I think Rooney is actually the "bookies' favourite".

Rodgers: "We've found some underlying issues related to Dan's problems. Staff here liaising with great medics in America."

Yeah, he has the muscle integrity of a 90 year old. Shocker.

Didn't he already go to the States for treatment? I'd be really surprised, given how frequent his problems are, that they are only now discovering this mystical underlying cause. Maybe I'm on the wrong path, I just can't believe what BR says these days.

Sturridge believes he has a heredic muscle weakness. Whether that's in his head or in his legs doesn't matter.

There is a reason that Chelsea sold him for a knock-down £12m and that Liverpool were hesitant about buying him.

      1. Somalion
        • 16 Years
        10 years, 9 months ago

Aye, I know what his issues are. I just don't believe there's anything new to be uncovered at this stage. If there is, then the medics have taken a really long time looking into it.

And I agree, it is why I saw him as a massive gamble. Initially I came across as a bit foolish because he did very well, but they're really seeing the extent of it now.

Essentially, a genetically inherited muscular issue. So he might believe that members of his family have had a problem with weak muscles and that he has the same thing.

Thanks. Looks like there's nothing new here. Maybe the American medicos are promising some new cure. Sounds, though, like papering over the fact that they took a huge gamble and appear to be losing.

I think you are spot on. Massive covering of their arses here, pretending there is a break through when in reality they bought an injury ravaged player. Maybe I'm being too harsh, as I say I just can't believe anything Rodgers says.

Do you have any other City or Arsenal players?

Sanchez not the force he once was due to Ramsey turning up (creativity stats have dropped). Not sure if any Arsenal midfielders are stand out.

If you wait a week, Man City have QPR at home the week after. Can you drop him for that?

Other option is to wait a week then do something like

Hendo&Murray out for Cambi&Giroud for free

            Team atm:

            Pant / Myhill

            Terry / Clyne / Skrtel / Hutton / Dawson

            Haz / Fabs / Silva / Hendo / Sterling

            Kun / Kane / Murray

This i like. It also leaves Silva as more of a differential.

Well it was more a, if you don't get rid this week, would you be comfortable doing so next? Neither on blistering form. If it's the only way to get Sanchez in i would do it, but i'm holding Silva for a couple of weeks myself.

    Fabianski

    Kosc, Ivan, Skrtel (Clyne, Bruce)

    Sterling, Hendo, Fabregas, Haz, Silva

    Aguero, Vardy (Kane)

what do you think of this lot? Bit of a benching dilemma but thinking of saving my transfer this week...

    B) Silva to Sanchez

Given the price difference between those 2 depends what other plans you've got. Based on who'll score more for the rest of the season I'd say Silva over Henderson.

    Courtois. Heaton.
    Clyne. Fonte. Skrtel. Koscielny. Moreno
    Sterling. Hazard. Cambiasso. Eriksen. Kouyate.
    Solanke. Ground. Kane.

Take Solanke last week thinking he will play in DGW...

Now I am thinking to do Solanke >> Any cheap striker and then Moreno >> Terry worth -4....

    What do u guys think..?

Wiping my ass is something I have approx 25 years of and thousands of times of experience doing..........choosing captaincy decisions when it's a tough call between the Premierships' two best places only around 15 or so 🙁

I originally had it on Hazard but I think Aguero has the better form.

That said, we don't know if City will play with 1 or 2 up top and the latter would hurt Aguero's appeal. Also, we don't know if Spurs will up their game against the champions.

Chelsea will be at home against Palace and will probably win the title this weekend. Palace did a great job of ending Liverpool's title challenge last season, but I don't really see them stopping Chelsea this weekend and although I don't think it will be a rout, I think Hazard has a good chance of getting in the points.

Statistically I prefer Aguero's recent performances. I think it comes down to your gut feeling though.

My philosophy has always been to choose the furthest play up the pitch, at home - excluding weaker members of the squad and players playing against top opposition.

      So Hazard for me.
