With a bumper crop of surprise stars emerging during Gameweek 34, the community is in confident mood as it prepares for another round of double fixtures in Gameweek 37 for Sunderland and Arsenal. Our hot topics and Members tables focus on the strengths and weaknesses of those two sides, while our community writers take a look at those mid-table sides searching for motivation as well as key differentials for the run in. We also see whether Gameweek 34’s calvacade of points for Hull and Leicester investors affected the standings in our mini-leagues. In addition, we delivered the sad news that a much respected member of the community passed away this week.

The Community Articles

The struggle for motivation amongst mid-table sides came under the watchful gaze of Ruth NZ this week in this analysis, which looks at the most likely top performers among sides with seemingly little to play for.

Motivation is something The Puntmaster has buckets loads of, as once again he delivers a trio of differential punts to help steal a march on mini-league rivals during the season run in.

There was certainly some renewed enthusiasm amongst those that played their wildcard during Gameweek, according to our latest Rough with the Smooth round up of the community’s best and worst managerial decisions.

For those looking to avoid the hype over certain players Federer was on hand with this handy guide to sticking to your own game plan in the face of herd pressure.

Amongst our most respected community writers and posters was Simon Humber, who posted under the name Absinthe. This week we announced the tragic news that he had lost his battle with cancer. We and the rest of the community left their tributes to him here.

The Hottest Topics

The community is never one to sit on its laurels when it comes to double Gameweeks, with planning already starting in earnest for Gameweek 37, when Arsenal and Sunderland play twice. But according to Tinkerman, Arsenal’s assets should be treated with caution, as rotation looks to scupper our best-laid plans due to their involvement in the FA Cup Final. Kings of Lyon, though, is more optimistic. His analysis of the Arsenal team sheets around last year’s final, which it was also involved in, show that Arsene Wenger could be less prone to tinker as first thought.

Question marks were also raised about Arsenal’s attacking ability, after John Terry and the rest of the Chelsea defence managed to keep them at bay so adeptly during Gameweek 34. Terry’s display, in particular, prompted The Old Git to post this discussion on the Fantasy Premier League’s Bonus Point System, after the Chelsea captain failed to pick up any bonus points for his efforts.

Terry was one of six Chelsea players to grace the PFA Team of the Year, which provided its usual controversy as the community examined the merits of those included and excluded, in Demi’s hot topic.

Another hero of Gameweek 34 was Dame N’Doye. Jairzinho kindly summed up dozens of the community’s best puns based around Hull’s two goal hero. Demi’s “N’Doye will always love you” was among some excellent word play on display.

Among those not laughing this week were reigning FPL champion Tom Fenley and Luke Sanders, who both failed to activate their wildcards and found themselves facing a -52 point hit going into Gameweek 34. Their tale was among a raft of anecdotes in our discussion on the highs and lows of wildcarding and points hits.

The community is also thinking even further ahead, with next season’s planning already underway, after Bournemouth joined Watford in being automatically promoted to the Premier League next season. Bournemouth resident Brian (Not the Messiah) is understandably delighted that top-flight football will be coming to his home town next season and asked the community for their thoughts on their prospect next season. There was further chat about Bournemouth and Watford’s chances in our discussion about the Fantasy Football potential of their players.

Finally, Sunny Beamer took a look at those first innocent days back when the community started playing Fantasy Football and teams were checked no more than once a week. One of our community who can never be accused of being a casual is Doosra, who has been absent for a number of weeks while recovering from a serious illness. Our chief statistics man made a triumphant return this week to surprise his many well wishers. Welcome back Doosra.

The Members Tables

After the unlikely heroics of Hull players in Gameweek 34 there is now heightened interest in Sunderland’s differentials ahead of the double Gameweek 37. To help those looking to find the next N’Doye or Steve Harper, I’ve compiled this table of Sunderland players, which has a global filter and is sorted by shots in the box. For those looking for more secure assets in Gameweek 37, I’ve also constructed this table of Arsenal’s most attacking options.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

The FFS UEFA Cricket World Cup tournament continues to deliver drama, according to the group’s latest review of the previous round and look ahead to the weekend’s fixtures.

Greenwindmill’s Gameweek 34 wildcard saw him take a commanding 48-point lead over second placed Mark in the FFScout moderators and contributors league. Marlen Rattiner is another to secure top spot, with a 34-point lead at the summit of the FFS Old Farts Club league, for our community’s more seasoned members.

Kroos Control has retained a strong lead over second-placed Athletico Timbo after Gameweek 33 in the Dead Team Challenge, in which managers have to stick with the Gameweek 38 selection without making any changes.

Finally, AZ is recruiting for an XBOX FFS Fifa tournament. Full details here.

If I'm not playing Davis now I might as well sell him, as Ospina will play the rest of the gameweeks over him for sure. Just feel like Arsenal is due to concede goals. Originally had Ospina in goal, might swap back. Thanks guys.

It's a tough one gaffer, stats say he's certainly benchable in theory. Though Spurs are just so over overwhelmingly weak at the back and Silva's likely to play in the hole, he has a relatively good chance to outscore Vardy IMO. Vardy does have some of the best underlying stats for strikers right now, and I can definitely see him running circles around the Newcastle backline.

Anyway, if you take ownership % into a tough call like this and with your overall rank to take into account, maybe playing Silva is the safe play here mate.

No Yaya for city though. When he doesn't play City don't win.

I think that's a very simplistic way of assessing his prospects, Puyol. Not too long ago, Silva was in the form of his life in an YYTless City side, who although were barely scraping by and losing a couple, still managed a good quantity of goals. I don't think his absence will be too detrimental for Silva's play, IMO.

I agree that no Toure doesn't bode well for City as a whole, but I wouldn't be my dipping my chip in that salsa IMO.

Cheers as always Zasa. It is a very tough call, I definitely fancy Vardy for some attacking returns and Silva has actually done pretty poorly FPL-wise over the last month. Maybe playing Silva is the better, safer move like you say. I'll probably leave this call to the last minute!

Red arrow since the Charlie Austin DGW, looking to catch up, should I captain Hazard or Aguero?

I'm going Hazard, he hogs the BAPS if he scores whereas Aguero doesn't as shown recently. Spurs City should be a goalfest, so if Aguero only gets 1 then he may struggle for BAPS, whereas if Hazard scores or assists then he is in good stead of some bonus

you think so? I think they will be set up to get the result - put on the show next week when Liverpool visit, with the guard of honor and all.

Last thing they'd want is to be complacent, and face a potentially tricky game against Liverpool to seal the title. With tough fixture WBA away after that too.

    A. Silva to Sanchez
    B. Sterling to Ramsey or Ozil
    C. Coutinho to Ramsey or Ozil

    Ospina (kasper)
    Ivan Terry Skrtel

not seeing any love for Ozil as a dgw option, far and away created the most chances, on a lot of set pieces etc, nailed on - great value at 8.9 .. comes down to ozil or sanchez (-4) for me and i think im going ozil

I disagree. I think he is. He is certainly more nailed than Ramsey and Giroud, imo.

@Zophar, I think he is a decent option and I'll be bringing him in. Not expecting fireworks but hopefully he can provide some decent returns. I probably would get Sanchez but it would mean major surgery on my team. Not prepared to take major surgery on my team just to bring in a player who most will have anyway.

yeah i can either do ozil in for sterling in 36 and a punt on wickham in 37 for kane, or

get grealish in for sterling in 36 and sanchez for hendo in 37.. this option solves my bench dilemma for 37 , if not i got PVA/ivan/skrtel/terry/hendo and gonna be hard to bench one

So I've been on Haz (C) up until 5 mins ago. Was just thinking...

    - Hazard has recently claimed he is tired, and has played many games within a short space of time since then
    - Pardew's good record against Chelsea
    - Kun's amazing record against Spurs. Mentally helps him.
    - Spurs woeful defence

more than anything i think the factor that its likely to be an open attacking game benefits aguero .. palace will park the bus and i dont see chelsea having the ambition to score more than 2, a 2-0 result is ideal for jose on sunday

That's true. That's not to say Hazard couldn't come away with a brace or a goal + assist.

But yes Spurs City could be a goalfest. Only thing I'm worried about is Aguero's lack of bonus recently...

Not v bothered about records but aguero on decent scoring form..and as a chelsea fan i think chelsea will play for a safe 2-0 approach. At this stage of the season u hardly see 4-0s as most teams are tired..especially chelsea not rotating the main core.

the lead up to City vs Spurs has been all about the golden boot race - i'd put my money on both teams trying to set up goals for Kane and Aguero. Should be an open affair and like you said, Aguero has the mental edge (lol @ Fazio he'll be shitt*n bricks).

Personally, I think Mourinho will continue his professional approach UNTIL they seal the title. 1-0 or 2-0 scoreline on the cards. PLUS they will not have the benefit of knowing the score of the City or Arsenal games...hence they have to get the 3 points first and foremost.

Last thing they'd want is to have to secure the title in the games after that IMO.

      - Liverpool: tricky fixture, form out of the window when big teams play each other
      - WBA away: not easy
      - Sunderland home: no way Chelsea will want to go into the last game of the season with the title on the line

Doesn't mean Hazard is a bad pick...just means Aguero is a better pick in my view.

    Myhill
    Terry - Skrtel - Ivanovic
    Henderson - Sanchez - Hazard - Sterling
    Aguero - Giroud - Kane
    -------------------------------------------------------
    Hamer; Alderweireld, Rose, Boyd

Im going Haz. Don't think he's gone more than two games without blanking, he's at home, he's playing for the title, there's no Costa, and it's Palace. I'm sure Kun will have his chances, so it's a gamble. I'm leading or right there in most of my leagues though, so I'm taking the conservative decision.

I have Sanchez, and I'm set on getting Ospina next. For the double that leaves Giroud or another mid. So would you rather...

    A. Giroud, even if it would require some surgery and a hit
    B. Ozil/Rambo, which would be painless, but would give my rivals a differential.
