Eden Hazard is handed some time off as title-winners Chelsea prepare for Sunday’s showdown with Liverpool at the Bridge. Palace receive an injury boost up front, Rolando Aarons steps up his recovery for Newcastle, whilst the FA rescind Michael Duff’s weekend dismissal during Burnley’s loss at West Ham.

Hazard soaks up the rays in midweek jaunt

With the league title wrapped up for Chelsea, Eden Hazard has been given permission to enjoy a midweek break in the sunshine. Ahead of Sunday’s clash with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, the Belgian superstar posted a snap on Instagram of himself relaxing by an undisclosed seafront.

The Scout Says: It would be hard to argue that Hazard hasn’t earned the right to a mini-vacation in light of his authoritative displays in the lead up to Chelsea’s title win. That being said, news of Hazard putting his feet up might worry his 45% ownership and perhaps heighten the notion that Jose Mourinho may be looking to rotate over the final three fixtures. If such a scenario transpires, many may well be convinced to swap him out for Arsenal’s high-priced midfielders ahead of double Gameweek 37 and it’s fair to say that Fantasy interest in the Blues’ team sheet will be eagerly anticipated on Sunday afternoon. On the flip side, considering that the PFA Player of the Year has started every league game thus far, one might propose that some time off will freshen Hazard up for a strong finish as he looks to score for the fourth home match in succession.

Palace pair on verge of return

Crystal Palace strike duo Marouane Chamakh and Fraizer Campbell could both earn some pitch time during the Eagles’ home clash against Manchester United on Saturday as they step up their recoveries from injury.

The Scout Says: Following a four-match spell in which they recorded 11 goals, Palace have drawn blanks in their previous three encounters. Glenn Murray looked a sure-fire starter for the remainder of the campaign after notching three goals and four assists during that streak, yet manager Alan Pardew dropped the English frontman for their visit to Chelsea – instead fielding Yannick Bolasie as the lone striker. The return of Campbell and Chamakh provides further competition for Murray – thus diminishing his Fantasy appeal – as the London club search for a solution to their recent impotence in the final third. Campbell netted in one of his last two starts before suffering a pulled hamstring, which might factor into Pardew’s thinking when he draws up a gameplan for the Red Devils encounter.

Brown eager to help Black Cats beat drop

Wes Brown is edging towards a return to Sunderland’s matchday squad after clocking 45 minutes in the U21s’ 1-0 victory over Everton. In conversation with the club’s official site, the Black Cats centre-back expressed his desire to make a swift recovery:

“It was good to get back in the swing of things. It was a positive 45 minutes and the more players we get back for the remaining four games the better. It is very important because we have some very big games coming up, but it was a very good result on Saturday against Southampton and it is something we can build on. Personally it is just nice to be back playing and I can’t wait to get back out there.”

The Scout Says: Brown is likely to reclaim a starting berth upon his return from injury, which is pertinent to Fantasy managers ahead of Sunderland’s double Gameweek 37 (LEI, ARS). Although a clean sheet against Arsenal looks beyond the Wearsiders’ rearguard – considering only Chelsea have rebuffed the Gunners at the Emirates this term – Dick Advocaat’s men will fancy their chances when they welcome the Foxes to the Stadium of Light. Few will contemplate drafting in Brown (4.3) ahead of the cheaper (4.1) and more attack-minded Patrick van Aanholt (five assists to Brown’s zero), yet the former Manchester United defender’s return could render Aanholt a more enticing option by virtue of their bolstered back line.

Aarons steps up rehabilitation

Rolando Aarons has made significant progress on the comeback trail, playing 45 minutes for Newcastle United’s reserves in a 4-2 win over Blackburn Rovers. Conversing with NUFC TV following his run-out, Aarons went on to say:

“It’s no different to how I was at the start of the season. I always love playing for the club. And no matter if there’s three games or 30 games left I will always put my all in it doesn’t bother me.”

The Scout Says: Aarons’ long-awaited return to the Magpies’ set-up could be the catalyst they require to pose a greater attacking threat and snap out of their eight-match losing streak. The Toon winger netted in one of his three cameos before succumbing to injury and boasts 11 goals in 13 reserve appearances – clearly demonstrating his finishing ability. Aarons faces a race to prove his fitness before the end of the season, however, in light of his six-month layoff. Meanwhile, Papiss Cisse served the last match of his suspension on the weekend and could feature during West Brom’s visit to St James’ Park. The Senegalese frontman tallied three goals in four starts before his altercation with Manchester United’s Jonny Evans and will be John Carver’s last roll of the dice as he attempts to stave of relegation.

Duff red rescinded following appeal

Michael Duff’s one-match suspension for denying a goal scoring opportunity against West Ham United has been successfully appealed on the grounds of wrongful dismissal, meaning the Burnley defender is free to start against Hull City on Saturday.

The Scout Says: Eight points adrift and with three fixtures left to see out, Burnley are all but relegated. Little blame can be attributed to Duff and the rest of Clarets’ defensive contingent, however, given that they’ve conceded just ten times in as many outings, despite matching up against the six of the league’s top seven sides during that period. A poverty of goals has been the Lancashire club’s downfall, with their recent record in the final third (one goal in nine) making kind reading for their remaining opponents this season. On that note, managers still in possession of Tigers defenders may well be encouraged to field the budget recruits ahead of higher-priced alternatives, following their back-to-back clean sheets in Gameweek 34.

It frees up lots of cash, which is good because I only have one Arsenal player at the moment (Bellerin). The way Liverpool are playing, when compared to Leicester, means it's not crazy to think that Albrighton could outscore Sterling over the remainder of the season.

REPOST. Considering the following: Henderson, Vardy -> Albrighton, Benteke for a -4.

Checking the stats from another FPL site I saw this stat "Christian Benteke scored with both shots on target. His last ten goals have come from only 12 shots on target"

    Is Benteke worth getting?

Somebody mentioned he had six goals in six shots. Logic would suggest that that ratio would regress but I'm pretty sure Yaya had similar stats last season and carried on scoring. Different teams / positions but both are unplayable when they're in the mood. And he seems to have FK and Pens.

Oddly enough he doesn't have FKs. He scored the only one I can remember him taking against QPR but Bacuna (direct) and Grealish/Delph/Westwood (indirect) are all ahead of him ordinarily.

I think this is the type of thing where too much info will mislead people. Hazard doesn´t usually show he is under pressure, even after missing the penalty this GW he immediately put the ball as far from the keeper as he could.. with his head which is rare to see. Now imagine when there is no pressure at all.

Until you have to rely on you Sunderland players staying on the bench in GW38 at Chelsea and hoping Wenger doesn't rotate the squad with the Cup Final in mind.

Creator - Ings and Vokes scored 40+ goals last season between them, but this season they have been relying too heavily on Trippier's crossing to provide the chances and teams have sussed them out.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Gameweek 38 is always a lottery. Fringe players come in and score. Clean sheets are few and far between and teams are fighting for their lives or a place in Europe. In seven seasons I've only once had a successful Gameweek 38 (thank you very much Drogba(c) and his hattrick).

What advice do you have to securing a great Gameweek 38 score? Or is it down to that dreaded word that Fantasy Football managers hate to hear - luck?

Game week 38 has always been my worse week of the season.

A few weeks ago I took out lucky for a hit and he got a Hattrick off the bench

Last year I got a season low score and went from about 25k to 37k

No hit this year ( I now see how pointless it is) but maybe a cheeky captain punt as I may still be behind in my ML!

Dont take silly hits, anyone can score in the last week.

Did Lukaku(MUN) -> Sturridge(QPR) a few years back and we all know how that ended.

It's all about context. Teams with something to fight for will generally perform better. It becomes a lottery when two teams in that situation play each other, or when two teams with nothing to play for face off. It's probably also essential to wait for press conferences before making transfers in the final week. Oh, and don't take a hit to make a transfer in the last week of the season.

Also - luck, just like every other week :-p

I think I'll just be making 1 transfer, no hits and captaining the player with the best fixture as normal unless said team has nothing to play for and may be prone to rotation.

Think the best thing is to not overthink it too much.

It hasn't been too bad recently. But if there's nothing to play for then teamsheets get weird. I remember 3 or so seasons ago our H2H final winner couldn't field a GK as both teams decided it was time to give the backup keeper a game, and nor did he have any of his 3 strikers playing - but he still won the final.

My best GW38 was also in 2009-10, my first season.

91 points (Lampard (c) 16*2, Drogba 16, Bale 12, Giggs 11, Baines 6 & Malouda 6). Lots of goals, and Drogba going for the Golden Boot! 🙂

Chelsea went into the final day one point ahead of United and beat Wigan 8-0 while United won 4-0 at Stoke. Drogba won the Golden Boot for the second time with 29 goals from 32 games.

Hazard v Sanchez = stick or twist. As in, if you're trying to make up ground you have to gamble & sell Hazard... and if you're protecting a lead, selling hazard would be fairly ballsy/reckless.

So should be an intriguing game on Sunday pm...FWIW, I'm selling Hazard & Fab & replacing them with Sanchez & either Oz/Caz/Rambo... keeping sterling in the hope that he may just pull a performance or two out of the bag before end of season, with liverpool having to fight tooth & nail for champs lge places.

While I'm on edge waiting for Carver at 1pm, just saw a Newcastle opinion piece that says De Jong has said he's still far off from 100%... Aarons seems closer to full recovery...

And yet, that De Jong punt still sounds so much better.

To be fair, their first XI last night was still fantastic, with enough strength for Gotze on the bench. But the way they started the game was weird and chasing at the end was naive and cost them more. Given what he inherited I think they've every right to question him.

The only way to stop Messi in this kind of form would be to park the bus, and that's not Pep's style nor how the Bayern fans want them to play. I still think there's a chance for Bayern if they get an early goal in the second leg.

He is tactically inept. Going to Nou Camp and playing this open is arrogant and it usually ends bad. Now add to that playing like that without Robben, Ribery and Alaba, this is suicide. He should be sacked imo. Got humiliated twice in 2 years. Winning Bundesliga after buying Dortmund's stars isn't an achievement. Bayern's challenger all year has been Wolfsburg, a team dismantled by Napoli who can't get 3rd in Serie A.

Why is everyone so certain Villa will be safe by GW 37? For GW 36, if you believe Westham are no pushovers, then you probably expect a tough game and since Villa are desperate it could be 2-1 or 2-2. I can't see it as a low scoring game at Villa park and Benteke will be involved in almost everything. If you think Westham are at the beach, then you should be more worried because Benteke could easily bag a hattrick.

Then comes the away game at Soton. Soton are very solid at home but have nothing to play for. They won't concede much though. I can't see Villa winning that game tbh which means they have everything to play for in GW 38 but if they do manage to steal a win which is unlikely, benteke will probably be the one to nick the goal. If they are secure by then, you can replace Benteke with a FT.

If you don't have Benteke for GW 38, you will need a big sofa to hide behind then.

Bottom line is, if Villa are secure before GW 38 as some argue (unlikely), it is probably because benteke has bagged 3 or 4 goals in GW 36 and 37 since Villa don't do CSs. If they aren't secure, then you want benteke for GW 38 and you'll want to captain him too. Either way, I see Benteke as a great option.

Grealish realistically won't get you many points. Maybe an odd goal or assist over the 3 games. Not worth a transfer at this point of the season.

The main reason to get Grealish is to get money to have Aguero Sanchez and Hazard in the same team with a strong defence. Now, if he can add an odd goal and assist with his 4.3 price, I'm extremely happy with that.

A kind reminder to the Benteke naysayers... the FA cup final is 6 days after their final home game of the season. Why would Sherwood rest Benteke when he can fill his boots at home and bring some momentum into the cup final?

I own Benteke. I'll also have 3 Arsenal. But history is very clear - players tend to be rested before Cup Finals. We'll have to take our chances but wishing that Arsenal and Villa won't rest key players just because we don't want them to won't always work.

Like many, I have been weighing up the Sterling to Ramsey or Ozil transfer. However If I go Sterling to Cazorla that will allow me to go Vardy to Wickham next week rather than Defoe if I go for Ramno/Ozil. Already have Sanchez and Giroud and Cazorla obviously has the benefit of pens.

Any thoughts on whether Caz is a worthy alternative to Rambo/Ozil. Looking at the stats he’s not far behind.
