Arsenal’s ten-match unbeaten run comes to an end as they waste chance after chance against Swansea at the Emirates. Fit-again Bafetimbi Gomis emerges from the bench to help sneak an unlikely win for the Welsh side.

Gunners silenced by resilient Swans

Arsenal failed to translate their dominance into tangible returns as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Swansea City on Monday night. The Gunners spurned a plethora of opportunities to take the lead, ending the encounter with 23 shots to the Swans’ eight after testing Lukasz Fabianski on nine occasions.

Bafetimbi Gomis’ late winner consigned the North London club to their first defeat in 11 matches, having emerged victorious in all but one of their fixtures (a 0-0 draw with Chelsea) since a 2-1 away loss to rivals Tottenham Hotspur back in Gameweek 24. Arsenal picked an inopportune moment to fail to score in successive home ties for the first time since April 2011 – just as they gear up for a double Gameweek 37.

Those that drafted in coverage early were punished by the poverty of attacking returns and the absence of a clean sheet. Olivier Giroud drew a blank for the fourth consecutive match and struggled to impart his presence against Garry Monk’s disciplined outfit. The French marksman mustered just one shot on target across his 68-minute spell – which, incidentally, was his first accurate effort in four outings. Given Giroud’s clear lack of form, the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Alexis Sanchez will likely feature higher up in many managers’ plans.

Despite Sanchez’s fruitless evening, the 145,000 managers that recruited the Chilean livewire prior to Gameweek 36 were given plentiful encouraging signs. The ex-Barcelona star fashioned four shots on goals and crafted two chances, whilst Ramsey posted similarly impressive numbers, attempting five shots, and creating three chances.

Perhaps more surprisingly, Santi Cazorla posed the biggest attacking threat among the Gunners’ ranks, engineering two more attempts on goal (seven) than any other midfielder this Gameweek. Allied with his free-kick proficiency, Cazorla’s heavy involvement in the final third could attract a new wave of investors.

Arsenal now travel to Old Trafford to face off against Manchester United in the first of their double fixtures, before hosting Sunderland four days later. Arsene Wenger’s troops have won their last five road matches, so the Red Devils clash promises to be a well-contested affair. A Black Cats side fighting for survival will likely prove stern competition, though depending on results elsewhere this weekend, Dick Advocaat’s side could already be safe by the time they roll up to the Emirates in midweek – a scenario that could prove advantageous to the Gunners’ main men as they attempt to clinch second spot behind Chelsea.

Gomis late show puts Swans on verge of Europa

Swansea are closing in on a Europa League berth after Bafetimbi Gomis’ header in the 86th minute afforded the visitors’ a dramatic victory over Arsenal. The former Lyon frontman was handed 17 minutes at the end of the encounter as he made his first appearance since succumbing to a hamstring injury in Gameweek 32. Now primed to start next week and boasting four goals in as many outings, Gomis (6.5) could be deemed a viable last-gasp differential as Swansea prepare to host Manchester City and visit Crystal Palace in their final two.

Swansea complemented their third win on the trot with back-to-back clean sheets. In light Sergio Aguero’s red-hot form, a shut-out next week against the Sky Blues looks a little far-fetched, yet Crystal Palace’s recent paucity of goals (one in four fixtures) works in the favour of Swansea’s rearguard for that tie.

Team looking ok I think for GW37, but do I take a hit for one or two of:
    A: Myhill//Migs > Panti
B: Cambiasso > Gomis (but that means benching Haz, Silva or Hendo instead)
    C: Kane > Graham

Feeling uncomfortable with Gru in my team now, but no point losing for a hit. Putting my faith in Sanchez + Cazorla/Ramsey - but will be like going into DGW with 2 Arsenal players 🙁

I'm guessing you dint watch the game.. Giroud had the 2 best chances of the game till he was taken off(and then Sanchez and Wally missed sitters later) and Arsenal lost all their aerial threat and hold up play upfront when he was taken off. Even the commentators were surprised by Wenger throwing Wally in for him.. Giroud still one of the best attacking punts for this DGW

Leading my ML by 30. I'm making getting Silva in a priority for this week for a (-4), is that unwise? Should I be focusing on getting in a Sunderland attacker?

I've got Koscielny, Sanchez, Ramsey and van Aanholt

Right I've got a Sanchez-shaped hole in the middle of my team but will need to take a -4 to get him in.

    Current line-up:
    Panti
    PVA Terry Skrtel
    Ramsey Silva Hazard Coutinho
    Aguero Giroud Benteke
    (Schmeichel Schlupp Trippier Cambiasso)

So thinking of Hazard to Sanchez plus one of:
    a. Benteke -> Kane
    b. Benteke -> Wickham (or Defoe)
    c. Coutinho -> Gomez

or should I forget Sanchez and go with
    d. Hazard -> Cazorla (no hit)

True, but even then I doubt Villa will be going full tilt at it and Burnley have been a tough team to break down

    Morning Guys,

All set on Coutinho > Ramsey but would you do...

    A. Ivanovic > Lolarov (keep Alderweireld)

    or

    B. Alderweireld > Wasilewski (keep Ivanovic)

        Mid of:

        Sanchez, Hazard, Silva, Coutinho, Phillips

I don't want to lose Hazard.

assuming they don't want him back next year, so ronald checking out who will be starter next season until forster returns

Well he's out of contract, afaik, so that would be a good hint that he's not coming back.

I don't expect either to be starters. Forster likely to be out for a long time and neither have proven themselves capable of deputising. I expect we'll get another GK in.

Was quite annoying for me last night, what could have been a 23 point diff going into last two gameweeks became 41. Arsenal didn't deliver (and Fabianski did for my rival).

Anyone care to advise as I try to make up a huge gap? (highly improbable I know)

    Mignolet
    Bellerin | Terry | Monreal
    Silva | Carzorla (C) | Hazard | Sterling
    Kane | Aguero | Vardy

    Bench: Davis, Baines, Rose, Walters.

    1 FT, 1 million ITB.

I don't mind taking hits, I know its a gamble so might as well. Any thoughts?

    (I had planned:

    Baines + Sterling + Belerin/Monreal - OUT
    Kolorov + Sanchez + 4.1 defender - IN

    does that sound carp? lol)

(I posted this last page and ppl were interested in the other guys team, so here it is:

    Fabianski
    Lescott | Clyne | Cahill
    Cazorla | Hazard | Eriksen | Silva | Fellaini
    Kane | Aguero

Bench: Gilks, Zamora, Baird, Wilkinson. 0.7 ITB

(I dont think he can afford Sanchez) Any ideas please?)

** got bottomed in previous thread + I made a gravatar account = pls advise :-p

Well you need to make a move really to make up the gap, if your don't think he'll have Sanchez then I think you may as well do it, I doubt you'll catch him up playing safe

    Panti (Schmeical)
    PVA Terry Skrtl (Toby, Shlupp)
    Silva Ramsey Sanchez Gomez (Hazard)
    Vardy Aguero Giroud

    0 hits, GTG?
    0.0 ITB

Vardy is in hot form, with 3 goals and 4 assists in his last 8, and playing a fellow scrapper. Hendo has Gerrard lurking, playing for a team which is lacking firepower.

Am now exactly level on points with the leader in my mini league. For a -4, my transfer options this week are:

    A. K. Davies and Ivan - Pantilimon and Kosch
    B. Ivan and Vardy - V. Aanholt and Gru
    C. Ivan and Vardy - Kosch and Defoe.

Have Sanchez, Rambo, Silva, Terry, Benteke, Aguero and couple 'Pool and Leicester players already.

    Thoughts?
