The transfer of Mikel Arteta to Arsenal this week has many a Fantasy manager eyeing up the new Gunners midfielder. Priced at just 8.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Arteta looks, potentially, a real value for money option this season, bringing a much-needed maturity to the Arsenal playmaker role in light of Cesc Fabregas’ departure to Barcelona.

In today’s Members Article, we delve into the statistics from last season, looking at a variety of factors to ascertain whether they offer a hint at just what Arteta could offer Arsenal –and, of course, Fantasy managers- in the campaign ahead:

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

looks like everyone has Rooney, Suarez, Dzeko, Young, Silva, with similar back 5. then what is the point playing this thing anymore?

It changes very fast. Aguero was would have been one of these a week ago, now people are selling him like crazy.

Rooney is probably the only one the will keep his form over the season, if some of the others do nothing for 2 GW's people will start selling.

Alot of the time you just have to accept that maybe everyone has a certain player for a very good reason.

Being different for the sake of being different is just as pointless as following the crowd for the sake of following the crowd.

Pick the players you reckon will do rest, pay no attention to the others.

thats too much for me up top, £34m up top leaves not much for anything else. Its dependant of wether or not Danny Sturridge gets decent game time or not.

lol, i love it when people get worked up about teams being similar.

Firstly, just as big a part is where you spend the rest of the money to free up the cash for the big players. It can make the world of difference and really these are where most of the transfers will be - to go with form/fixtures.

Secondly you have captain choice which has a fairly big difference.

Thirdly half the game isn't just to do with which players you get in and out - it's at which point you get them in or out. Everyone might have these, if you get on the next player before his big run then you get the points, or if you jump ship before a bad run, you win.

      It's a long season.

      Also, you're being melodramatic.

I hear a lot about City players being rested next week. This is just ridiculous. IMO VP is more likely to be rested than Dzeko or Silva:
Ars have their toughest CL game after Swansea (borussia away)
VPwill come tired after playing 180mins for holland
Arsene normally rests him for the easy home game if he shows signs of tiredness
Chamakh/park can lead the strike force

Could happen but don't think Arsenal can afford to rest any players atm. They struggled in these games last season against weaker teams at home.

Agreed. Arsenal are hardly in cruising mode at the moment. RVP will play unless he is injured. I'd imagine he might not play 90 if they are winning, but I wouldn't be worried about it.

Wenger has surprised us many times; and he said many times that vp can't play 3games in ten days.
Anyway my point is not that vp will be rested for sure, but more that heis as likely to get rested as a Rooney or any Citi players.

          Osman Fellaini Cahill Rodwell Drenthe

Hard to tell. I missed all of pre-season so am not entirely sure what AVB thinks about him.

I'd imagine that Mata and Torres will take two of the forward three slots, so that leaves Malouda, Anelka, Sturridge and Kalou fighting for the other position. Sturridge will hopefully be choice ahead of Malouda and Kalou, who've started the season pathetically, but I personally would rather Anelka plays over all of them.

So, yeah..... I don't really know!!

Given, Ruddy (he'll be back in a week, and still rotates with Given)

I have Suarez currently, but willing to risk removing him I think.

It's that or leaving out Rooney, and I know which scares me more. Plus, I can always bring Suarez in for Rooney at some point, but couldn't easily go the other way round.

I'm thinking there's a few options around 5.5, with N'Gog and Yakubu, so will keep Holt until a better one appears.

Adebayor can maybe come in for Dzeko at some point, if Dzeko looks unassured of starts, or Ade picks up some form

I'm just trying to get over another painful Scotland game. Other than that I decided to reach for the wildcard after talking to you the other night there. If it doesn't work I can blame the protagonist :P. Nah, in all fairness I was about to take a few price drops so decided to use it to avoid that and make a few quid.

Him playing behind another striker won't happen (at least not from the start).

RvP's role is relatively free anyway, and Arsenal don't own any straight-out poachers.

Perversely, when Walcott's crossing improves (if it ever improves) that may be the point when Wenger decides to move him into a central role.

It wouldn't be directly because his crossing has improved, that would just be ridiculous.

However, Wenger is clearly developing Walcott into a more rounded footballer, the way he did with Henry. He's a young, pacey forward who can finish, but offers little beyond that, so Wenger has move him wide to teach him different skills, and allow him to contribute more to the team.

Whether Walcott does develop into a player like Henry remains to be seen - Henry's height and power gave him an immediate extra dimension Walcott will never have - but it looks very much like that's what is going on.

I reckon Wenger has more faith in Gervinho being the new Henry, might actually be a decent prospect to sit infront of RVP.

Gervinho? I can't see it. he's never, ever played as an actual striker before.

Walcott, like Henry, was a striker at youth level.

I know but I really think he has the ability, in his first preaseason game where he scored 2 goals he showed how good his positioning upfront is. Little work on his finishing and RVP feeding him could be quite deadly.

Though i feel the exact same way about theo.

However I dont ever see Walcott being similar to Henry. No fault against the player just not dont see it happening.

On the basis of what I've seen of Walcott, (a lot) I'd be gobsmacked if he reached the heights of Henry, but at the same time, I almost wouldn't. For all his faults, Wenger has demonstrated many times that his faith in much-maligned young players can be very well placed.

4 years ago, I never saw Alex Song developing into a Premier League player, let alone one of the most effective holding mids in the country.

Couldnt reply to your last comment for some reason MF, yeh lol so true about Song I felt pretty similar, the team bleeds without him these days.

I would love to see Theo turn into an accomplished striker, I think its a losing battle at arsenal for a winger who runs to the flag, the players just arnt in the box to target, arsenal are far more suited to gervinhos style wingplay of cutting in.

I think Theo could be decent infront of RVP, hes poor at beating a defender with his pace, but his ability to run onto a through ball and finish is quality. Probably the best aspect of his game.

i absolutely think that is the way arsenal need to go. 4-4-1-1

I can't understand why wenger would persist with 4-3-3 now that both nasri and fabregas have gone.

wenger has only had success in the league with 4-4-2!

that was back when 4-4-2 was a more fashionable formation though, and when Arsenal had the players to play it.

we have plenty of options for wingers now and and plenty of decent centre mids..

walcott is too much of a headless chicken to be persisted with as a winger. stick him up front like Terry Henry and happy days.

Just because it is unfashionable to play a certain way doesn't mean it won't work.

Hard to tell, depends on how much FPL has tweaked the price changing system thing. He's either at 62% or 97%. Should rise far before deadline either way.
